Paul Ryan's Achievements Are On The Line In Wisconsin's Midterms Watch VideoThe race to replace retiring Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is taking shape in Wisconsin, and Ryan’s biggest accomplishments in Congress could be at stake.

Ryan leaves his 20-year career in Congress just after shepherding a major tax bill through the House. And he has tapped a successor who has pledged to defend the bill, as well the conservative agenda he has championed.

Ryan has endorsed his former political aide Bryan Steil for the nomination from a crowded GOP field. Steil is a member of the University of Wisconsin's Board of Regents and works as a lawyer for manufacturing firms. He's cited his business experience as a model for how he'll govern in Congress.

Democrats are smelling a pickup opportunity, in what could be a huge symbolic rebuke to Ryan's agenda. Republicans still have the edge in the race, but election handicappers like the Cook Political Report say* *Democrats' odds have improved since Ryan's retirement.

The presumptive Democratic candidate used to be iron worker Randy Bryce, who secured national attention and plenty of funds early during his campaign against* *Ryan. But Bryce no longer has an obvious foil now that Ryan's out — and his primary opponent, schoolteacher Cathy Myers, has capitalized on Bryce's arrest record and financial issues to pull even against him.

Both Democratic candidates are championing the sort of pricey progressive programs that would have been anathema to Ryan, including a $15 minimum wage and Medicare for All. They're also opposed to Ryan's tax plan, which could be imperiled if Democrats manage to retake Congress.

Bryce and Myers are also both veterans of Wisconsin's once-strong union scene, which has seen its political muscle decimated under Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Union membership in the state has dropped from around 14 percent to 8 percent since 2010, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But if Democrats can't count on the unions to put them over the top, Republicans might not be able to rely on the White House for a boost either. A recent NBC-Marist poll pegged President Trump's approval rating in the state at around 36 percent of registered voters, with disapproval at 52 percent. Reported by Newsy 22 hours ago.

Register for the ever-popular Ugly Dog Contest at 2:00 p.m. Contest Starts at 3:00 at CV Starr Community Center. There are multiple categories and a prize given to every pooch.

Attention Foodies

Be sure to arrive early for the 10:00 a.m. launch of the Annual Presbyterian Church Pie Sale. Hundreds of pies disappear in the bat of an eye—everything from classic apple, cherry, peach, blackberry, pumpkin, lemon meringue, chocolate and butterscotch cream pies, and more. Purchase whole pies, or pies by the slice à la mode. The Presbyterian ladies sell aprons and other hand crafted items in the church foyer, but most people wait until they are ready to exit with a stack of pies. Everyone rushing in makes a beeline for their favorites before they disappear.

The 6th Annual Beer, Bison and Bluegrass event from noon to 4:00 p.m. features the Mendocino Quartet, Green Fields, and other special guests at Our Lady of Good Counsel Hall on Maple Street. Watch people stuff their faces at the Hot Dog Eating Contest in front of Reynold’s Menswear on Franklin Street at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, and dance the night (and calories) away at The Fireman’s Ball starting at 7:00 p.m.

The 2-day Arts and Crafts Fair at CV Starr Community Center starts at 10:00 a.m. with delightful culinary treats on hand as people peruse interesting booths full of jewelry, hand-carved bowls, needlework, pottery, soaps and lotions, wines, hand crafted olive oil, and more. Fort Bragg Library’s huge book sale on Saturday and Sunday starts at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Hall across from the library. Prices are reasonable; fill up a bag on Sunday for $5.00.

On Sunday, intrepid souls can indulge in a big lumberjack breakfast at The Fort Bragg Guild north of town—the spot to catch a glimpse or take a selfie with Paul Bunyan as he hunkers down on ham, eggs, hash browns, and golden flapjacks.The weekend's high point is the Logging Show and Expo at Todds Point beginning at high noon. On August 2, 2018, the folks at Escape RV, located in Branchville, NJ, received a surprise: a guest showing by NASCAR Xfinity Series Driver David Starr, who made the personal appearance at the recreational vehicle sales and service center, to help launch the 2018 Summer Tour of Stores, sponsored by Extreme Energy Solutions and its product, Extreme Kleaner.

While Starr gets back to his NASCAR schedule, UMP Dirt Car Race Car Driver Connor Otten returns to the DirtCar Circuit, with stops at Accord Speedway on Friday Nights, Orange County Fair Speedway, Middletown, NY on Saturday Nights, and selected race events at various tracks part of the Short Track Super Series, a traveling competitive series throughout the Northeast.

US May Get A 3-Digit National Suicide Hotline Number Watch VideoThe U.S. may soon get a three-digit national suicide hotline number. 

President Donald Trump signed the National Suicide Hotline Improvement Act of 2018 into law on Tuesday. 

It requires the FCC to look into the feasibility of designating a three-digit dialing code — like 911 — for a national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline system. 

The FCC will work with the departments of Health and Human Services and Veterans Affairs on the study. 

The three agencies will also have to analyze the effectiveness of the current National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Moore has spent the past 15 years working on key systems for Experient, including a registration and housing platform, lead retrieval app, database marketing tool, exhibitor CRM, event app, attendee behavioral tracking systems and analytics platform.

Kelley also joins the team from Experient, where he held positions over the course of 19 years as Account Executive, Senior Account Executive, Strategic Account Manager and Director, Onsite Services. His vast array of experience and knowledge were utilized to drive all onsite registration products and services.

Easy-to-use tools for online fundraising enable greater support for U.S. Military Veterans
