AIIR Partners with Team RWB to Offer Coaching Skills to Veterans

AIIR will leverage the powerful insight of the Coaching Mindset Index® to increase coaching skills for community leaders in the organization’s Eagle Leadership Development Program.

PHILADELPHIA (PRWEB) January 13, 2019

AIIR is proud to announce a new leadership development initiative in partnership with Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB), a national organization dedicated to enriching the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

AIIR has partnered with Team RWB to help Fellows in the organization’s Eagle Leadership Development Program, a 36-month curriculum designed to educate and elevate its community leaders, leverage coaching skills to build community and enhance veteran’s lives.

Fellows in the program will have the opportunity to take the Coaching Mindset Index®, a revolutionary assessment designed to help leaders understand and leverage their individual coaching styles. Each fellow will then receive a personal results debrief from a member of AIIR’s Global Coaching Network.

AIIR senior coach Christopher Schmitt, a retired U.S. Army Special Forces Officer (Green Beret) and current Eagle Leadership Fellow, said that Team Red, White & Blue was key to his successful transition when he retired from the military after 30 years of service.

“Everybody seeks community; everybody needs support. When I retired from the military in 2016, this organization connected me to a community of veterans and non-veterans,” Schmitt said. “Using the Coaching Mindset Index®, we hope to empower outgoing Fellows to act as leader-coaches to the new cohort of program participants — to give them the tools and support they need to engage and strengthen their own communities and make a difference in the lives of America’s veterans.”

“We believe in the power of great leaders to affect positive change in the world, and coaching skills are an essential component of great leadership,” said AIIR founder and CEO Jonathan Kirschner, Psy.D. “The men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces make tremendous sacrifices. We are humbled to have the opportunity to help empower the Eagle Leaders at Team Red, White & Blue with coaching skills that will help them make a positive impact in the veteran community.”

Survey Finds 78% of Patients Satisfied With Apple Health Records at UC San Diego Hospital

$

UC San Diego Health recently sent an online survey to its first 425 patients who activated Apple Health Records in 2018, and among 132 respondents, 78 percent indicated that they were "satisfied with using the feature."
96 percent of respondents said they could "easily connect their mobile devices to the platform," and 90 percent said the "smartphone solution improved their understanding of their own health, facilitated conversations with their clinicians, or improved sharing of personal health information with friends and family."

The survey results were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association this week by doctors at UC San Diego Health, one of the first hospitals and clinics to make Apple Health Records available to its patients.

Apple introduced the Health Records feature in iOS 11.3 in March 2018, allowing patients to view their medical records from multiple participating hospitals and clinics directly in the Health app on the iPhone, including allergies, vital signs, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications, and procedures.

The journal submission cautions that, as with many new products and solutions, such enthusiasm is common from early adopters. The platform will need to "prove that it is useful, sustainable, scalable, and actually improves health outcomes," according to Christian Dameff, MD, UC San Diego Health.

As noted by CNBC's Christina Farr, hospitals have historically faced "major challenges" with getting patients to use electronic medical records, because the technology "tends to be poorly designed and hard to use."

UC San Diego Health doctors believe three key developments may contribute the success of Apple Health Records compared to earlier efforts like Google Health in 2008, including the ubiquity of mobile technology, the maturation of health data communications standards, and the widespread use of App Stores.

More than 100 institutions now support Apple Health Records in the United States, including Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, and Apple reportedly hopes to add the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as a partner as well, a move that would provide veterans with access to the feature.

Health records are stored in the Health Data tab of the Health app on iOS 11.3 and later.Tag: Apple Health Records

Grant from Massachusetts State Treasurer’s Office helped lead to successful workshop series for more than 450 homeless and at-risk veterans

BOSTON (PRWEB) January 14, 2019

National nonprofit American Consumer Credit Counseling (ACCC) announced today that it recently completed a comprehensive Operation Money Wise financial workshop series for homeless veterans at the Brockton VA. A grant from the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s Office helped support this 10-month workshop series that addressed the financial challenges and educational needs of homeless veterans who are recovering from challenges with mental health and addiction.

“With the generous support of the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s office, we were able to host workshops that helped benefit hundreds of our local veterans who have served this country,” said Steve Trumble, President, and CEO of American Consumer Credit Counseling. “This workshop series provided our local veterans with much-needed education and resources to help them move forward and achieve their financial goals.”

Through this program, ACCC was able to serve 466 at-risk veterans, more than 170 veterans than originally anticipated, over a 10 month period. The workshop series included money management workshops and one-on-one financial coaching sessions with resources to help address the specific financial challenges faced by this vulnerable population.

The Operation Money Wise workshop series featured a particular emphasis on understanding credit – a particularly important topic as credit directly impacts veterans’ ability to move towards self-sufficiency and achieve vital goals. The curriculum also focused on budgeting – its components and how to balance one throughout the year – and identity theft, including how to detect and deter it.

TOKYO (PRWEB) January 14, 2019

Morrison & Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce that Daiske Yoshida has joined the firm’s Global Antitrust Law and Investigations + White Collar Defense practices as a partner in the Tokyo office. Mr. Yoshida brings to the firm more than 20 years of cross-border regulatory experience in both the United States and Japan across a wide range of sectors including the life sciences and electronics industries. He began his career in New York before relocating to Tokyo where he has practiced for the last 12 years.

Mr. Yoshida’s practice focuses on cross-border litigation, arbitration, and investigations. Mr. Yoshida has led large-scale government and internal investigations in Japan, the U.S., and Europe involving antitrust, anti-corruption, securities law, corporate governance, and economic sanctions issues. He has also represented clients in U.S. federal and state courts at both the trial and appellate levels, and international arbitrations.

“Daiske’s addition strengthens our ability to help our clients navigate the growing complexities of international litigation as well as broad experience with cartel and other investigations,” said Ken Siegel, Managing Partner of Morrison & Foerster’s Tokyo office. “His background practicing in both the U.S. and Japan provides our clients with a valuable global perspective and they will benefit from his proven ability to counsel on cross-border matters.”

Louise Stoupe, head of the Tokyo Litigation Department and co-chair of the firm’s Commercial Litigation and Trial Practice Group, added: “Daiske’s deep experience in antitrust and investigations matters will be a tremendous asset for our clients not only in Japan, but globally as well. He has deservedly established a reputation in Tokyo as a market leader who has successfully represented many Japanese companies. I’m excited about the depth that Daiske adds to our growing Tokyo Litigation Department.”

Mr. Yoshida is the latest partner to recently join Morrison & Foerster’s Global Antitrust Law practice. Lisa Phelan, who is based in Washington, D.C. and has a strong presence in Asia, came to the firm in July after 16 years as the Chief of the National Criminal Enforcement and Washington Criminal I Sections of the Antitrust Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. Morrison & Foerster has also been expanding its Investigations + White Collar Defense practice over the last few months. Most recently, former prosecutor and industry-leading compliance executive Christine Wong joined the firm’s San Francisco office.

“The commitment Morrison & Foerster has shown to continuing to build out its antitrust and investigations groups on a global scale and to growing its footprint in Japan makes it a perfect fit for my practice,” Mr. Yoshida said. “I am proud to join the top international law firm in Japan. King 1101 Provides Apartments for Veterans and Families That Have Experienced Homelessness

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Clifford Beers Housing (CBH) is proud to announce the grand opening event for its newest property, King 1101 Apartments. Located at 1101 Martin Luther King Blvd., just south of Downtown Los Angeles in Exposition Park, King 1101 is a 26-apartment community for formerly homeless families and military veterans, which also features street-front commercial space for a local social enterprise. These homes represent the latest chapter in CBH’s legacy of providing quality housing to members of the community who need it most. Since the nonprofit’s founding in 2005, CBH has worked tirelessly to develop apartment homes with on-site social services to help people who have experienced homelessness stabilize their lives. CBH’s goal is to break the cycle of homelessness by building communities that are affordable and beautifully designed for all Angelenos.

The King 1101 Apartments grand opening event will take place on January 18, 2019, at 2 p.m., aptly scheduled during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to celebrate his vision for a future of equal opportunity for all people. Expected speakers include Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.

“Homelessness can happen to anyone,” said Cristian Ahumada, executive director of Clifford Beers Housing. “King 1101 Apartments is our endeavor to follow in Dr. King’s footsteps and keep fighting so that all of our neighbors can have a home and a fair chance at a better life.”

Norma R., one of the new residents calling King 1101 home, became homeless after losing her eyesight. “Now that I am in this comfortable and safe environment,” said Norma, “I will be able to get my health and education back and do what I really dream of, which is going back to work.”

King 1101 Apartments will benefit taxpayers as well. When a person becomes permanently housed, the public cost for services like hospitals and jails is significantly decreased. In fact, according to a 2009 study by The United Way, the total cost of public services for two years on the street was $187,288 compared to $107,032 for two years in permanent housing with support services – a savings of nearly 43 percent. CBH has seen these results achieved in its ten currently operating properties, and continues to build on that success, with three more communities soon to start construction.

“This beautiful building will help veterans, families, and those struggling in this very tough housing market,” said City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson. “It represents the best of what we can achieve in our community and the entire City of Angels.”

King 1101 development partners include Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, general contractor GB Construction, and supportive service providers The People Concern and the Veterans Administration. For a full list of funders, visit bit.ly/King1101.

The company said there was “Increased utilization” through commercial insurance and Veterans Health Administration systems which boosted revenue. “As expected, revenues from sales of OMIDRIA ramped up throughout the fourth quarter, and we look forward to continued revenue growth in 2019 as we prepare to commercialize OMS721 for the treatment of stem cell transplant-associated TMA,” said Demopulos. OMS721 has received orphan drug designation from the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of hematopoietic stem cell transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy, considered a severe complication after cell transplantation. It is also a treatment for IgA Nephropathy, a kidney disease that occurs when an antibody called immunoglobulin A, or IgA, gets stuck in the kidneys and affects their ability to filter wastes from the blood.
