*Kix Brooks Surprises Two Combat Veterans with Custom Built Homes Announcement at CMA Music Festival*

Through Operation FINALLY HOME, Staff Sergeant Luke Van Dorston, USAF will receive a home in Thompsons Station, Tenn., and Sergeant Ronny Wiley, USA will receive a home in Charlotte, N.C.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Country music star Kix Brooks changed the course of the lives of two combat veterans and their families, announcing that the soldiers will receive custom built homes from the non-profit organization Operation FINALLY HOME. Brooks made the announcement from the Sunday night CMA Music Festival concert at LP Field.

Veterans' families learn they will be receiving a custom built, mortgage-free home from Operation FINALLY HOME. Left to right: Dan Wallrath, Operation FINALLY HOME; Abby Van Dorston; Air Force Combat Controller Staff Sergeant Luke Van Dorston, Ashley Wiley, Kix Brooks.

Air Force Combat Controller Staff Sergeant Luke Van Dorston will receive a home in Thompsons Station, Tenn., and U.S. Army Sgt. Ronny Wiley will receive a home in Charlotte, N.C. Both builds are part of an Operation FINALLY HOME partnership with American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks and LP Building Products to build six homes for deserving veterans across the U.S. in the next two years. Franklin, Tenn.-based Carbine & Associates will construct the Van Dorston home and Classica Homes in Charlotte will build the Wiley home.

"I cannot tell you how moving it is to watch the faces of American heroes and their families as they learn that they no longer have to worry or struggle to have a home," said Kix Brooks. "There's no greater feeling than being a part of an effort to honor our military veterans."

Van Dorston is a 33-year-old highly decorated combat veteran with deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. He flew over 140 combat missions, was involved in more than 64 direct action raids and directed 194 Close Air Support missions. Most recently he served at the Interservice Military Free Fall School where he trained over 500 Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force and Allied Force special operators. His combat engagements earned him two bronze stars, one with valor for heroism. Van Dorston was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2011. Married to Abby Van Dorston, the couple has a one-year-old son.

Wiley served in the U.S. Army for 17 years, including two tours in Iraq, receiving a number of medals throughout his military career. He suffered a traumatic brain injury after hitting an IED while driving a Humvee during his second Iraq tour. Degenerative disk disease limits his physical abilities and he has also been diagnosed with severe post-traumatic stress disorder, making it difficult to leave his home. Wiley is married to Ashley Wiley and has three children.

"LP is proud to provide materials for the homes for these two heroes," said Rick Olszewski, executive vice president, sales and marketing. "We are especially excited to be a part of these two builds alongside our customers Carbine and Associates and Classica Homes and Nashville's American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks."

"With community and corporate partners, Operation FINALLY HOME not only provides mortgage-free homes for those who have sacrificed so much to defend our country, but together we change their lives and the lives of their families," said Dan Vargas, Operation FINALLY HOME executive director.

Gift Card Impressions organizes leading national retail and restaurant sponsors to honor America’s heroes.

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

Gift Card Impressions is partnering with military support charity, Operation Gratitude, to create a tangible way to say “thank you” to America’s military. Gift Card Week provides consumers a way to show their appreciation to America’s Service Men and Women, past and present. In addition to the full value of the purchased gift cards benefiting the military recipients, Gift Card Impressions will also donate two percent of the total value of all gift cards sold from June 13 – July 11 to Operation Gratitude for its military support programs.

The process is simple. Visit giftcardweek.com and purchase a gift card for someone who has served in the military. Then, customize this moving Military Appreciation Video for free. Finally, send the “e-teaser thank you” and let the Service Member know a gift card is on the way. Those who may not have an immediate military connection can also purchase a gift card to be included in an Operation Gratitude care package or purchase gift cards for any recipient and still support the military knowing that Gift Card Impressions will be donating a percentage back to Operation Gratitude.

John Adams, formerly an active duty captain in the United States Marine Corps and currently the Director of Strategic Operations for Operation Gratitude, knows first-hand the difference even the smallest gesture can make.

“To feel that your service is recognized is extremely gratifying. Just to know that people appreciate what you do for love of country, makes your personal sacrifice worth it,” said Adams. “Americans want to show their gratitude, but often aren’t sure how. Gift Card Week is a simple, yet meaningful way for people to say ‘thank you’ to the military.”

Operation Gratitude founder, Carolyn Blashek, concurs, “In keeping with Operation Gratitude’s mission of providing hands-on opportunities to say ‘thank you’ to our nation’s heroes, we are thankful for Gift Card Week’s support. We have seen first-hand how notes, care packages and good wishes can truly help lift the spirits of our military members and their families.”

Those interested in participating can visit giftcardweek.com and purchase a gift card from leading retailers and restaurants for a friend, family member or neighbor who has served. Gift cards may also be purchased for any occasion or recipient with two percent of the value of every gift card sold going to Operation Gratitude.

This Father’s Day, Easter Seals recognizes a veteran father who’s worked hard to help launch and sustain several veterans programs – and the veteran son who’s followed in his footsteps.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

If you thought father and son partnerships in the workplace were a thing of the past, look no further than Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA.

When Daniel Seidel was growing up in Tallahassee, Fla., he was constantly exposed to veterans of the Vietnam War and other American conflicts. Meanwhile, his father, Stan Seidel, a Vietnam veteran himself, was helping veterans find their way back to the workforce.

What neither of them could envision at the time was that they would be working together, 25 years later, helping Easter Seals assist veterans overcome employment barriers.

This Father’s Day, Easter Seals celebrates Stan, the father who’s worked hard to help launch and sustain several veterans programs – including the new Veteran Staffing Network (VSN), and Daniel, the son who has followed in those footsteps as he works full-time to secure meaningful employment for veterans at Easter Seals.

VSN is an innovative social enterprise launched by Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA that addresses the needs of the veterans, wounded warriors, members of the National Guard and Reserves and their families seeking to transition to meaningful civilian employment, and the employers who want to hire and retain highly trained leaders.

For more information, visit Easter Seals online.

About Team Seidel

Stan Seidel served in the 4th Infantry Division as a solider in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict in 1968. He was honorably discharged from the Army two years later and received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University.

In 1978, he was approached with an opportunity to earn a living by speaking to employers about the advantages of hiring veterans in West Palm Beach, Fla. For a country that still had harsh feelings about the Vietnam War, this was a daunting task. Stan took that challenge and translated it into a successful career that spanned more than 30 years. He did so by presenting himself as both open and truthful to veterans and employers and holding himself accountable.

Stan found great importance in letting the veterans know that he has walked a mile in their shoes and their military service should not be a detriment to finding civilian employment. His efforts led to great success for both veterans and employers.

That success translated into a 27-year career in veterans employment and training in the U.S. Government, all with the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) of the U.S. Department of Labor. His first stop was Tallahassee, where son Daniel Seidel was born.

It was in Daniel’s first years of life and later as he moved to suburban Washington, D.C., that he gained an appreciation for the men and women who serve this country.

“He was in a position where everything was about veterans,” said Stan. Whether he knew it or not, he was becoming exposed to the military culture.”

By the time Daniel became a teenager, he realized that instead of heading straight to college, the right move for him was to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He trained at the Field Medical Service School at Camp Pendleton. That training led to separate missions to Iraq and Afghanistan, where he provided medical attention to Marines who were searching for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Daniel spent six years as a Corpsman.

While Daniel was finishing his service, Stan, still with the Department of Labor, began working with Easter Seals, which was expanding its services that assist people with disabilities to services that enhance the lives of military, veterans, wounded warriors and their families. Stan was the driving force that ensured Easter Seals Serving DC | MD | VA received a grant from the federal government that launched the Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP).

When Stan retired from the Department of Labor in December 2011, he knew that becoming a volunteer at Easter Seals was the right move to make.

“I felt compelled to come to Easter Seals and help them meet their goals,” said Stan. “I was particularly intrigued by the fact that veterans programs could be launched at a local affiliate level and grow into the national level as they become more successful.”

Since then, Stan has helped Easter Seals military and veterans programs grow exponentially. He was instrumental in the development of the Veteran Staffing Network (VSN), which is a self-sustaining social enterprise model that serves the entire military community.

VSN is expected to redefine veterans employment and temp-to-perm placement services by taking an ecosystem approach that attacks the barriers to employment at each pain point within the system, supporting veterans, their families and the organizations that employ them.

As Stan was building the military presence at Easter Seals, a case manager position within the veterans programs opened up that just happened to fit Daniel perfectly. In the summer of 2012, Daniel accepted the position, in which he is responsible for placing veterans in employment and employment training, while informing them of educational benefits and opportunities.

“I enjoy the opportunity to put veterans back into the workforce,” said Daniel. “To see how thankful they are for what I have done is a great feeling at the end of the day.”

When asked if they find a poetic symmetry to their careers, the father-and-son duo isn’t really hung up on that fact. They are just happy that they can both be in positions where they can continue to assist those who protect their country. Reported by PRWeb 4 hours ago.

Local media, issue experts, resource providers and Veterans come together to establish the priorities for reporting on homelessness and raising awareness of available support services.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

Nationwide there were 62,619 homeless Veterans in the U.S., and 520 on Chicago streets on a single night in January 2012, according to the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development. In an effort to end Veteran homelessness in Chicago and enhance the level of awareness about Veteran challenges, the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc., FOX 32 and The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have teamed to prioritize these imperative issues in local media. Today, a Picture This: Ending Homelessness Among Veterans in Chicago forum was held at Pritzker Military Library bringing together news media representatives, local issue experts, formerly homeless veterans, elected leaders and resource providers. The forum was hosted by FOX 32 Medical Contributor Dr. Mona Khanna and “Good Day Chicago” Co-Anchor Anna Davlantes. Featured speakers included Secretary of State Jesse White, FOX 32 General Manager Dennis Welsh, Univision Anchor/Reporter Enrique Rodriguez, "Good Day Chicago" Co-Anchor Corey McPherrin, WBEZ Reporter Chip Mitchell, Chicago Sun-Times Columnist Mark Brown, WBBM Newsradio personality John Cody, and comments from Governor Pat Quinn.

“About 30% of those who are homeless in Illinois are veteran, and we the people who have been defended by our veterans have a duty to them to help them find shelter. And so as Governor of Illinois I work with our housing development authority to advance initiatives to find shelter to our veterans. It’s very very important and I’m going to be committed to that as long as I’m alive,” Governor Quinn proclaimed during a recent interview with FOX 32, setting the stage for action.

“We are honored to partner with EIC to support the men and women of our armed forces. This is an important issue to the FOX 32 family and to our local community. Our nation’s Veterans do so much for us, this is one small way we can use the power and influence of the media to elevate the conversation around homelessness and raise awareness about services and resources that can make a difference,” said Dennis Welsh, General Manager, FOX 32.

“Today’s forum engaged media panelists and issue stakeholders to build upon discussions and media efforts in which veteran homelessness is presented to vast audiences. Picture This is the start of a collaboration designed to increase the presence of this issue in news media to raise awareness and spark action, both locally and nationally. We will continue the conversation through regular communications and briefings that will, ultimately, change attitudes and behaviors, encourage help-seeking actions and move Chicago towards ending homelessness among Veterans,” said Brian Dyak, President and CEO of Entertainment Industries Council, Inc.

“The single best way to help Veterans who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless is to connect them with VA services in the Chicago area. Each VA medical center has a homeless coordinator on staff. The local homeless coordinator can connect the Veteran with a continuum of VA and community services that may provide the support they need to establish or maintain safe, stable housing,” said Lisa Pape, National Director for VHA Homeless Programs, Department of Veterans Affairs.

VA has also established the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans (877-4AID-VET, or 877-424-3838), a toll-free hotline available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Trained responders—many of them Veterans themselves—are available to provide support to Veterans and their loved ones who lack safe, secure housing. These services are also available on an online chat at va.gov/homeless.
