Mountain Acquisition Company, LCC (“MAC”) an Aspen, Colorado based holding company, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Rocky Mountain Security Services / Integrated Systems, which has provided security services to residential and commercial clients in greater Denver, and front range of Colorado since 1977.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) June 10, 2015

Chris Heath, MAC CEO, stated, “We’ve admired the integrity, outstanding customer service and excellent customer retention of Integrated Systems for many years. Integrated’s co-founder, Frank Lawrence, artfully manages the company of 25 dedicated employees and this week proudly marks the 38th anniversary of Integrated Services as a significant milestone. Frank has been with Integrated since the inception and many other team members have been with the company since the ‘80s and ‘90s; a talented group of key people who make the business work very well. There is just an enormous amount of synergy and compatibility that makes this acquisition a perfect fit for us both. This deal will afford us economies of scale, greater visibility in the marketplace, with increased strength and posture for renewed growth. …We’re very excited!”

MAC, who also owns and operates Apex Security in Aspen, was introduced to Denver’s Integrated Systems in June of 2013 and the idea of creating one of the region’s leading life-safety and security services firm appealed to both parties. Both Apex and Integrated have solidified market penetration over the last 30 years by gaining the confidence of thousands of customers who rely on their services every month.

Frank Lawrence, the co-founder and owner of Integrated Systems for the past 38 years, will remain with the newly acquired company and continue serving the customers he has worked with for generations. “We still have Customer #1… our very first customer who has been with us since 1977. We began this business with a focus on the high-end residential market. It was in our first steps of expansion in 1979 that Integrated Systems began working with local school districts. Designing and implementing large public installations requires a comprehensive approach because you need a varied level of access for staff and multiple systems in the form of building security, intrusion detection, video surveillance, environmental supervision and fire alarm… this can be extremely complex. In fact, it was this level of engineering and design expertise that fast became the core of our Engineered Services Division and continues to distinguish us in the marketplace.”

Integrated Systems also provides fire alarm protection for the largest building in Colorado and the largest hospital in the State. They pioneered alarm transmission over radio paths in 1980; overcoming the challenges that wired transmission can present and still operate a robust private radio network for the benefit of their client’s security today. Integrated Systems serves several thousand customers in its market including; homeowners, businesses, schools, houses of worship, office complexes, even public schools and buildings in multiple municipalities in greater Denver. With in-house engineering and installation services, Integrated Systems custom designs each security system to meet customer’s varying needs..

Managed by finance veterans and entrepreneurs Chris Heath and Fred Maurice, Mountain Acquisition Company, LLC, is located in Aspen, CO and is focused on acquiring and strengthening well established alarm companies that lead in their markets and are committed to exemplary customer service and technical support. In addition to Denver based Integrated Systems, MAC owns and operated Apex Security serving Aspen, Snowmass and Vail. Apex provides the region’s leading security solutions for ultra-high end residential customers and businesses alike.

Keiser University’s West Palm Beach Campus Proudly Supports Charitable Organizations Through Various Volunteer Activities to Benefit the Community

Keiser University students, faculty, and staff recently engaged in various activities to support a wide array of charitable organizations, such as Quantum House, Operation Homefront, and the American Cancer Society.

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) June 10, 2015

Keiser University’s mission stresses the importance of service to the community and, as a result, the West Palm Beach campus consistently engages in a variety of activities to benefit charitable organizations and causes throughout Palm Beach County.

Just last month, faculty and students engaged in a number of events throughout the community. Faculty volunteered at Quantum House and cooked for approximately 20-25 people. Quantum House is a supportive home in West Palm Beach for families whose children are receiving treatment for serious medical conditions. Radiologic Technology students and members of the Student Government Association took part in the Relay for Life walk hosted by the American Cancer Society and collectively raised over $800.

Over the years, the West Palm Beach campus has proudly supported charitable initiatives such as Operation Homefront, Palm Beach County School District, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Palm Beaches, local chapters of the national Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the American Cancer Society.

“We are fortunate to have a campus filled with students, faculty and staff with a desire to contribute and give back to the community they call home,” said Kimberly Lea, Campus President. As one of Keiser University's 15 Florida campuses, the West Palm Beach location opened in 2004 and serves nearly 1,000 students pursuing doctoral through associate degrees in fields critical to the local and state economies.

With over 20 percent of Keiser University’s (KU) 20,000 students being veterans, service members, or military family members, the partnership created between KU and Operation Homefront has been one of the most successful. Students, staff, and faculty raise tens of thousands of dollars and collect countless toys every year to provide for Florida children struggling with the absence of deployed parents during the holiday season.

As an example, Nicole Ruiz and her husband, who was medically retired from the United States Air Force after having honorably served, moved to Florida where she planned to pursue her dream of a degree in Accounting. Her decision proved to be the perfect one. She maintained a 3.95 grade point average, is the president of her Student Government Association and a graduate of the Leadership Distinction program. The Ruiz family is one of four Keiser University/Palm Beach County military families that have received homes from Operation Homefront’s generous program.

About Keiser University:
Keiser University is a private, not-for-profit University serving nearly 20,000 students offering 100 degrees at the doctoral through associate level on 17 Florida campuses, online and internationally, employing 3,500 staff and faculty. Keiser University holds Level VI accreditation signifying recognition of its expanded doctoral degree offerings.

Sixty-two percent of KU students graduate in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and healthcare fields, providing the talented workforce necessary for Florida to compete globally. Statewide Keiser University campuses currently have 60 accredited programs, spanning 21 program offerings, from 18 accrediting agencies/regulatory agencies to ensure that the top industry standards are met in degrees such as nursing, occupational therapy assistant, radiologic technology, physical therapy assistant, physician’s assistant, and many others.

Keiser University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award certificates and degrees at the associate, baccalaureate, masters, specialist, and doctoral levels. The HOHCT “Legion 100” campaign is a grass roots initiative that seeks to expand exponentially the reach and impact of House of Heroes Connecticut (http://www.hohct.org), which honors the service and sacrifice of military and public safety veterans through the provision of no-cost home improvement services. HOHCT is seeking a total of 100 volunteer general contractors throughout Connecticut’s eight counties willing to take on the role of “Home Captain.”

The program is targeted exclusively to experienced general contractors with a serious interest in community service, specifically honoring veterans. Interested general contractors are invited to an informational reception, dinner and training session Wednesday, June 24, 5:30-8 p.m. at the Courtyard Hartford Cromwell, 4 Sebethe Drive, Cromwell. “General contractors and tradesmen are the lifeblood of House of Heroes and we’re looking to build an army of craftsmen willing to pledge 100 hours per year honoring veterans. House of Heroes is specifically looking for general contractors with ties to subcontractors in each Connecticut county. Home Captains will work with HOHCT to qualify veterans, fund materials and plan projects, then take the lead in executing the organization’s mission to “Make a Difference in a Day.”

At the June 24 event, attendees will meet the HOHCT team, enjoy dinner and get acquainted with the organization’s policies and procedures. Also that evening, HOHCT will: Recognize STANLEY Tools for its multi-year commitment to HOHCT, and; honor one of the vets it helped this year, Steve Benkowski of Hampton, a retired U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter mechanic who was injured in Afghanistan.

Founded in January 2000, House of Heroes is a nonprofit organization serving the nation's military and public safety veterans (and their spouses) who are disabled, living on a fixed income, or facing other physical/financial challenges. Volunteers perform minor repairs and make improvements to the homes of veterans and their spouses – at no cost to the veteran – through the generosity of individuals, civic organizations and corporations. Nationwide, House of Heroes chapters in Georgia, Arizona, Connecticut and Iowa have completed more than 600 projects in 17 states.

The House of Heroes Connecticut chapter was founded in 2012 by May and his partner, Steve Cavanaugh of Biltmore Construction, Hamden. Nonprofit’s A Warrior’s Wish® Program turns veteran’s dream into reality

Katy, TX (PRWEB) June 10, 2015

Hope For The Warriors® was pleased to grant a local retired Army veteran and his family a fishing boat over Memorial Day weekend through the nonprofit’s A Warrior’s Wish® Program. Fulfilling dreams for service members and their families, A Warrior’s Wish® is one of the many programs offered by Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for service members and military families.

Staff Sgt. Floyd Peters, USA (Ret.), along with his wife and five children, applied to A Warrior’s Wish® for a bass boat to take his family and fellow veterans fishing. After 23 years in the Army, he is now medically retired from the military and diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Hope For The Warriors® granted his Wish for a Bass Pro 160 Tracker fishing boat to share his recovery process with fellow veterans, friends, and family.

“For years to come, this boat will bring me closer and closer to my family in a unique way,” said Peters. “Being on the water will allow me to return the favor to the community and other veterans through fishing groups, and more people can learn about Hope For The Warriors® that way.”

“We are so grateful for how the communities of Houston and Katy embraced this Army veteran’s family, as well as all service members, veterans, and military families,” Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors® President, said. “We are proud to grant this Wish to fulfill our mission to restore the entire military family."

Bass Pro Shops hosted a Memorial Day celebration to unite the Katy community and dedicate the Bass Pro 160 Tracker to Peters at the Bass Pro Shops of Katy, Texas. A Color Guard and drumline performance by Mayde Creek High School NJROTC Unit 33577 honored this military family as well as all service members, veterans, and military families.

This year, Hope For The Warriors® has invested more than $71K to support service members, veterans, and military families through 11 Wishes. The nature of these Wishes vary in scope from business, fitness, financial, and outdoor-related. From recreational and household equipment, a musical instrument, a honeymoon, and the replacement of stolen goods from a fallen Marine, the enrichment process continues long after the Wish is granted to promote stability within the lives of these heroes and their families.

Both service members and spouses turn to Hope For the Warriors® and the A Warrior’s Wish® Program to fulfill goals of assimilating to their new lives. For these individuals and their families, once again enjoying prior lifestyles and activities is very much a part of their restoration process, and Hope For The Warriors® recognizes its importance.

Beyond meeting immediate physical and emotional needs, A Warrior’s Wish® fulfills a desire for quality of life beyond recovery and a quest for life gratifying endeavors. Whether the Wish is for equipment for a favorite hobby to support therapeutic benefits and rehabilitation, tools for a small business as a new means of supporting the family unit upon separating from the military, or taking a trip to reclaim themselves or experience something new, Hope For The Warriors® honors the goals and desires of wounded service members and their families.

2 Democratic Senators Pitch Conservatives On Supporting A Carbon Tax

$
0
0
WASHINGTON -- Two Democratic senators on Wednesday delivered the opening pitch for their new plan for addressing climate-warming emissions in what may seem an unlikely place: the American Enterprise Institute.

Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) released their American Opportunity Carbon Fee Act, which would aim to cut greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent by 2025 through a $45 tax on each metric ton of emissions, to an audience at the conservative think tank. The fee would apply to all companies that mine, extract or import fossil fuels, and to large emitters of greenhouse gases other than carbon dioxide, such as methane. The per-ton fee would rise over time.

The senators argued that their bill should appeal to conservative audiences because it creates a market solution that corrects for the fact that companies currently pay nothing for the environmental and health costs for greenhouse gas emissions.

"This is an area that does demand conservative solutions. We've developed a market solution to one of the biggest challenges of our time," said Schatz. "There is nothing conservative about ignoring the collective knowledge of the scientific establishment."

The bill would use the estimated $2 trillion in carbon fees collected in first 10 years to reduce the corporate income tax rate and to offer workers a $500 tax credit to offset the payroll tax, an amount that would adjust according to inflation. Seniors, veterans, and people who cannot work due to disability also would get a $500 credit. The senators said the credits would help offset any increased energy costs due to the new carbon fee.

"The basic idea is simple," Whitehouse told the AEI crowd. "You levy a price on a thing you don’t want -- carbon pollution -- and you use the revenue to help with things you do want."

The said they hope their bill can win support from conservatives -- if not in Congress, at least in the think-tank world.

"Sheldon and I have no desire for this to be a Democrats-only issue," Schatz added, noting that they could have introduced it in front of an environmental group, but chose AEI instead.

Audience response was mixed. Among conservative think tanks like R Street, which favors a carbon tax as an alternative to strict government regulations on carbon pollution, there was suspicion that the Democrats aren't serious about working across the aisle, citing their efforts to force Republicans to vote on climate science.

Others in attendance raised questions about whether there should be a conservative response to climate change, if they don't think it's a problem in the first place. During a panel discussion after the senators' appearance, AEI scholar Benjamin Zycher argued that carbon dioxide is "not a pollutant, " because "some concentration of carbon dioxide is needed for life," and "anthropogenic warming might be a huge benefit."

Jerry Taylor, of the libertarian think-tank Niskanen Center, on the other hand, made the case that addressing climate change is "a worthy cause for conservative and libertarians to embrace," a case where there is a government role in preventing " risk to life, liberty and property." While he acknowledged proposed solutions may not stop rising temperatures -- another challenge raised by audience members -- "given what we know about the risks posed by climate change, we must try," said Taylor.

Whitehouse and Schatz are looking for allies who agree with Taylor. "We have an important policy question to get right," said Whitehouse. They hope their bill will help "eliminate conservative objection," he said "and simply addresses the underlying problem that needs to be solved."
