*IRVINE, CA, and HERSTAL, BELGIUM* - February 8, 2017 - MDxHealth SA (Euronext: MDXH.BR) today announced that it has been awarded a US Government Services Administration (GSA) supply contract to use ConfirmMDx for Prostate Cancer within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

The five-year contract, effective February 1, 2017, provides coverage of ConfirmMDx testing at the Medicare rate for veterans within the VA Health System. (V7970-70066 for Federal Supply Schedule 621 II Medical Laboratory Testing and Analysis Services)

According to the VA, prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among veterans with roughly 12,000 new cases annually. Over 600 urologists serve the 152 VA hospitals across the US and it is estimated that more than 200,000 prostate biopsies are performed within the VA healthcare system each year.

"MDxHealth is proud to support the Department of Veterans Affairs with ConfirmMDx testing to help improve patient management and decision-making on the need for prostate biopsies," *stated Dr. Jan Groen, CEO of MDxHealth.* "This contract further underscores ConfirmMDx's clinical value for prostate cancer risk assessment and will be a significant new driver of test volume."

About ConfirmMDx for Prostate Cancer

ConfirmMDx for Prostate Cancer is the first epigenetic, and only tissue-based test in the 2016 NCCN Guidelines for early detection of prostate cancer which addresses false negative biopsy concerns. It is the only molecular diagnostic test that provides a very high negative predictive value (NPV) of 96% for clinically significant prostate cancers, and 90% NPV for all prostate cancers, as well as prostate mapping of the test results to help guide repeat biopsies. Each year, more than 1 million American men undergo an invasive prostate biopsy with a negative result, however approximately 30% of those men actually have prostate cancer. The current standard of care for prostate biopsy procedures samples less than 1% of the prostate, leaving men at risk for undetected cancer and leading to a high rate of repeat biopsies, even on cancer-free men. ConfirmMDx for Prostate Cancer helps urologists identify low-risk men who may forego an unnecessary repeat biopsy and high-risk men who may benefit from intervention. ConfirmMDx has qualified for Medicare reimbursement and covered by numerous private health insurance plans.

Disabled Veterans National Foundation Sends Shipment of Goods Worth Nearly $170,000 to Albany Veterans Organization

The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) is announcing the shipment of around $170,000 worth of requested items to the Veterans Miracle Center (VMC), based in Albany, NY.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 08, 2017

The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) (http://www.dvnf.org) is announcing the shipment of around $170,000 worth of requested items to the Veterans Miracle Center (VMC), based in Albany, NY.

The VMC, opened in early 2015 by the aid organization Jezreel International, is a free “store” for veterans to select essential items they need but often struggle to afford. The VMC offers veterans anything from furniture to clothing to kitchen utensils and bedding. The organization has served over 3,600 veterans in need and continues to expand its reach.

For this shipment, the VMC specifically requested DVNF Comfort Kits, jackets, other clothing, reading glasses, and toiletries from DVNF.

DVNF’s shipment, valued around $170,000, was made possible through its Health & Comfort program, which has helped thousands of homeless and low-income veterans in the last couple of years. These shipments give veterans things like new clothes, toiletries, socks, and other health and hygiene supplies they struggle to afford, and the supplies are sent to stand down events and other shelters throughout the nation.

“The Veterans Miracle Center is making such a difference in the lives of veterans by providing this valuable service to those in need,” said DVNF CEO, Joseph VanFonda (USMC SgtMaj Ret.). “It’s an honor and a pleasure for DVNF to send this support, because these partnerships are what give our veterans hope for a better future.”

The shipment marks the third time DVNF has worked with the Veterans Miracle Center, and the partnership has benefitted countless veterans in the Albany region.

About DVNF:
The Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom.

We achieve this mission by:· Providing an online resource database that allows veterans to navigate the complex process of seeking benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service, as well as additional resources they need.
· Offering direct financial support to veteran organizations that address the unique needs of veterans, and whose missions align with that of DVNF.
· Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.
· Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community, and educating the public accordingly. Reported by PRWeb 12 hours ago.

A powerful ad challenges Trump to act like a legitimate president. Here's the backstory.

$

0
A message from an Afghanistan war veteran takes on the president directly.

*"President Trump. I hear you watch the morning shows," begins the latest TV spot from VoteVets, the self-described "largest progressive group of veterans in America."*

The ad, which debuted during Monday morning's episode of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" (a show Trump reportedly watches on a regular basis), features an Afghanistan war veteran who lost a leg in combat, addressing the president directly in a voice-over.

"President Trump. I hear you watch the morning shows. Here’s what I do every morning. Look, you lost the popular vote. You’re having trouble drawing a crowd. And your approval rating keeps sinking. But kicking thousands of my fellow veterans off their health insurance by killing the Affordable Care Act and banning Muslims won’t help. And that’s not the America I sacrificed for. You want to be a legitimate president, sir? Then act like one."

Just minutes after the ad aired, Trump tweeted, which the group suspects may have been in response to the ad.

Any negative polls are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 6, 2017

*Trump has talked a pretty big game when it comes to how he sees the military's role, but VoteVets has concerns about what exactly that means.*

"I will be so good at the military your head will spin," Trump said in a September 2015 interview. In one of his first acts as president, Trump signed an executive order calling for a "great rebuilding of the Armed Forces." While those actions and statements might sound good, there's not a whole lot of substance to them.

That's why VoteVets is trying to reach the president where they're most likely to be heard: on cable news.

"All we're really doing here is elevating the voice of one of our members who wants to speak directly to Trump, and obviously, we feel he's earned that right to do it," says VoteVets Chairman and Co-founder Jon Soltz. "So, we just wanted to do something that was direct, something that addressed him personally, something that would catch his attention that had substance to it about the Muslim ban and the Affordable Care Act."

Trump holds a Purple Heart replica that was given to him during a campaign event in August 2016. "I've always wanted to have a Purple Heart," Trump said. "This was much easier." Photo by Alex Wong/Getty Images.

*While the ACA and the travel ban are receiving much attention lately, there are a number of other issues VoteVets and other veteran advocacy organizations are concerned about.*

Soltz cites possible privatization of the Department of Veterans Affairs as one of the larger concerns on the group's radar. While Trump has made some bold promises to "fix" the VA, it's not entirely clear what that will look like. Adding to the concern, Trump held a "listening session" for possible improvements to the VA that didn't include prominent veterans advocacy organizations.

Additionally, Soltz notes that Trump's federal hiring freeze will hurt veterans in a number of ways. There are more than 2,000 job openings at the short-staffed VA that, due to Trump's hiring freeze, will remain vacant. Additionally, 31% of all federal employees are veterans. For that reason, along with the fact that veterans are given hiring preference for federal jobs, the hiring freeze will disproportionately affect veterans in search of work.

Not to mention the concerns some veterans and active members of the military may have over Trump's views on things like NATO and his general decision-making capabilities when it comes to issues of war.

*But why take out an ad? Why not just flood the White House comment line and use more traditional avenues of lobbying for policy change? *

Well ... with the White House comment line down, people and groups have been scrambling to find new ways to make their voices heard.

How do you get through to a president that doesn't listen to anyone outside his own circle of advisers, refuses to acknowledge any poll that shows disapproval of his performance or policies, calls any news not to his liking "fake news," and accuses anyone who protests of being nothing more than a paid plant?

VoteVets' strategy of targeting his favorite TV shows is an innovative approach, to say the least.

Image from VoteVets/YouTube.

It's an approach that brings with it another challenge, however: TV ads take time to make. That's why VoteVets deviated from the approach they've used in the past — veterans talking directly to the camera — and instead chose to rely on a voiceover message so the audio can be swapped out as needed to keep up with the quickly changing news cycle.

"We're interested in shooting this ad in a way that's simple, that does not look like a political ad — because it's not. It's a veteran's story," says Soltz, "but in a way that if we have to make his statements more pointed, we have the ability to do that quickly so it's still relevant to the news cycle."

As for why the veteran who stars in the ad isn't named, Soltz explains that there are concerns about the veteran's and his family's safety, as well as a belief that "less is more."

"If you really want to hit hard, you've got to say something," says Soltz. "We don't need to explain a lot for people to know this is a combat-wounded Afghanistan war veteran. We don't want to distract from the visual or the words."

House Democrats Kick Off Retreat By Insisting They Matter

$
0
0
BALTIMORE ― House Democrats opened their annual retreat on Wednesday by fighting the narrative that they don’t matter or can’t provide a check on President Donald Trump.

One by one, party leaders told reporters that they can be just as loud as their colleagues in the Senate.

“There’s somewhat buzz in the press, ‘Oh, you Democrats, you don’t have any power in the House of Representatives. You’re going to be irrelevant,’” said House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). “We’re not irrelevant.”

Democrats are “energized” despite taking a beating in November, he added.

“No one in America ought to think this party is in retreat,” Hoyer said, noting Democrats won a plurality of votes in the presidential election.

The defiant opening statements indicate that this gathering ― which happens every year and is meant to give members a chance to regroup ― is shaping up to be a little different than it has in the past.

Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) said Democrats would focus on “kicking a little ass for the working class” ― her personal title for the conference.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said House Democrats will continually point to the differences between their policy positions and Trump’s.

For example, she wondered why it was taking the president so long to unveil his proposals on infrastructure, the budget and tax giveaways ― and his personal tax returns. Highlighting the party’s opposition to Trump, Pelosi took particular aim at his recent comments about Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as his executive order limiting immigration and blocking Syrian refugees.

“As long as the president continues down this path, there is nothing Democrats can work with him on,” she said. “Democrats will fight this administration every day with every fiber of our being.”

Democrats will fight this administration every day with every fiber of our being.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi
Still, Democrats are the minority party across the entire federal government, leaving them with very little tangible ways to block Trump’s agenda. Democrats in the House can’t filibuster legislation like they can in the upper chamber. Their best chance at winning over voters likely hinges on messaging and trying to tune in to a base that has different priorities than party leaders.

Indeed, many of the sessions Democrats plan to attend over the three-day retreat show that they’re aware they need to revamp their image.

A session titled “Reaching all Americans” will feature professors from the University of California, Berkeley and University of Wisconsin-Madison, according to a schedule of the retreat obtained by The Huffington Post. Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) plans to lead a session on “Why Veterans supported Trump and the path forward,” and Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) is preparing to moderate a discussion on “After the Women’s March: Empowering the grassroots.”

But the way forward won’t be all about resisting the administration, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) pointed out. Pressed on what tools they have in the House, Crowley said Democrats will continue to use procedural maneuvers to force Republicans into symbolic votes.

Crowley tried on Tuesday to pressure Republicans to vote on a resolution criticizing the White House’s Holocaust remembrance statement for not specifically mentioning the 6 million Jews who were killed. Republicans rejected the vote.

“We want our Republican colleagues to understand that what the White House does, they either have to answer for or they have to condemn,” Crowley said Wednesday. “It’s not just about the White House, it’s also about our Republican colleagues.”

Pelosi added that Democrats also plan to lend their voice to debates raging in the Senate. A number of House Democrats, including Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), won’t travel to Baltimore until later Wednesday in order to be in the upper chamber when it votes on the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) for attorney general.

“We will have our presence, our voices, and the thoughts and wishes of the American people present in the Senate chamber tonight,” Pelosi said.
