*Management Commentary *

“Despite the impact of the pandemic on our AppLogiq business, we increased revenue by 9.4% to $37.9 million in 2020 thanks to our new DataLogiq subsidiary that we acquired at the start of the year,” commented company president, Brent Suen. “Consolidated gross profit for the full year also increased 2.0% to $6.4 million or 16.8% of consolidated revenue. Most remarkably, we saw gross margins for our AppLogiq business improve despite the pandemic, from 11.8% in Q2 to 12.4% in Q3, and then to 25.6% in Q4. This was the result of eliminating low margin, white label partnerships that were impacted by the pandemic, and turning our focus on the most profitable segments we serve with this mobile app business enablement platform.

“While the margin improvement is encouraging, we are actually more excited about our future margin prospects, particularly for our e-commerce business of DataLogiq and our recent strategic acquisitions. Over the past year, we have acquired three leading e-Commerce platforms as we expanded our global presence, including Rebel AI that we announced this morning. Our product offerings now extend from mobile commerce and fintech solutions for small-to-medium-sized businesses or SMBs, to AI-powered customer acquisition for major enterprises and brands.

“As an innovator in digital marketing solutions, Rebel AI delivers strong e-commerce growth to brands and agencies. Rebel complements our new Fixel AI unit that we acquired in the fourth quarter. Fixel added simplified marketing and critical privacy features to our AI-powered consumer intent engine which is used by major brands and premium publishers. Through these key acquisitions, we have now become a global leader in data-driven, consumer intelligence and automated marketing technology.

“The Rebel AI platform, which we have already relaunched under the name of Logiq Digital Marketing, enables SMB businesses to more effectively compete for new customers against larger enterprises – leveling the playing field like never before. Our value proposition with Logiq Digital Marketing is now so strong, we have already signed up new clients on this platform. We are planning for the full integration of Rebel AI with Fixel and DataLogiq to be completed within six months.

“Early in the second quarter, we expect Fixel’s audience scoring and segmentation feature will be available to customers who have been using Rebel AI. Then by the end of Q3, we expect Fixel to be fully and seamlessly integrated within our Rebel AI technology deployment.

“As global e-commerce sales now reach upwards of $4.2 trillion in a more than $26 trillion retail industry, it’s predominantly the largest brands that are capitalizing on their fullest potential. In the U.S. alone, the top 10 e-commerce players account for 63% of online sales. We believe that a market dominated by so few players is not really a healthy marketplace. Our platform is designed to change all this, to level the playing field for SMBs to better complete for media spend and customer acquisition.

“In preparation for the market opportunity ahead, over the past year we strengthened our corporate governance and expanded our management team, bringing on ad tech veterans like Steven Hartman, appointing Josh Jacobs and Lea Hickman to our board, and we’re now adding Manny Puentes from Rebel AI to our executive team.

“Earlier this month, we joined forces with Comviva, a global leader in digital financial solutions, to offer digital wallet and payment services to millions of mobile users and SMBs across Indonesia. The services will be based on our PayLogiq digital wallet and powered by Comviva’s mobiquity Pay platform. We see the potential for this opportunity to eventually generate tens of millions in annual fees for Logiq over time.

“We believe we have arrived at a pivotal moment in our growth and development where everything will begin to accelerate. We’ve now brought together the technologies to create a superior digital marketing solution, and have assembled the best minds in the industry to bring it to market.

“Despite a year of unexpected challenges and setbacks, we have been able to transform Logiq into a global provider of a full-range of e-commerce solutions for companies of all sizes. This has put us on course for strong growth in 2021 and into 2022, with diversified, high-margin revenue streams derived from the strongest segments of our industry. Given the strong industry tailwinds at our back, we believe that we are on track to end 2021 with record revenue at more than $40 million with stronger margins across all of our business segments.”

*Q4 2020 Financial Summary*

Revenue decreased 34.3% to $6.6 million in the fourth quarter of 2020, as compared to $10.0 million in the same year-ago quarter, with the decrease largely due to the impact of COVID-19.

The company’s AppLogiq mCommerce platform-as-as-service (PaaS) contributed $2.1 million or 32.1% of consolidated revenue in the fourth quarter, which decreased 78.9% from $10.0 million or 100% of consolidated revenue in the same year-ago period. The decrease was primarily due to the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns as well as the transition to lower revenue but higher margin business.

Gross profit decreased 25.6% to $1.4 million or 21.1% of revenue in Q4 2020 from $1.9 million or 18.6% of revenue in the same year-ago quarter. The decrease in gross profit resulted primarily from lower revenues for the quarter. The increase in gross margins was the result of eliminating low margin, white label partnerships that were also impacted by the pandemic, and focusing on the more profitable segments the company serves with its mobile app business enablement platform.

Total operating expenses increased 51.6% to $8.5 million in Q4 2020 from $5.6 million in the same year-ago period. The increase in operating expenses was mainly due to the addition of DataLogiq’s general and administrative expense of $1.3 million, depreciation and amortization expenses of $0.6 million and an increase of AppLogiq’s general and administrative expenses of $0.9 million and sales and marketing of $0.6 million compared to the same period a year ago. This was partially offset by AppLogiq’s research and development expense decreasing by $0.5 million in the fourth quarter.

Net loss was $7.1 million or $(0.51) per basic and fully diluted share in Q4 2020, compared to net loss of $3.8 million or $(0.47) per basic and fully diluted share in the same year-ago period.

At December 31, 2020, cash and cash equivalents totaled $3.5 million, compared to cash and cash equivalents of $4.8 million at September 30, 2020.

*2020 Financial Summary*

Revenue increased 9.4% to $37.9 million in 2020, as compared to $34.6 million in 2019. The increase is due to the inclusion of the revenues of DataLogiq effective January 8, 2020. AppLogiq revenues declined by 34% as compared to 2019 due to a loss of customers as a result of adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and from a strategic shift from white label App resellers to higher margin direct marketing to customers.

Gross profit increased 2.0% to $6.4 million or 16.8% of revenue for full year 2020, compared to $6.2 million or 18.0% of revenue in the same year ago period.

Total operating expenses increased 60.9% to $20.6 million for full year 2020 from $12.8 million in the same year-ago period. The increase in operating expenses was primarily due to the inclusion of DataLogiq operating expenses, which totaled $6.9 million.

Net loss was $14.5 million or $(1.14) per basic and fully diluted share in the full year 2020, compared to net loss of $6.5 million or $(1.31) per basic and fully diluted share in the same year-ago period. The increase in the loss is due to increase in research & development costs, legal and professional costs, travelling cost, consultancy fee, stock-based compensation and increase in research & development.

CAF Encourages Athletes to be Stronger Through Sport; Individuals around the world with physical challenges receive grants for adaptive sports equipment, training and competition expenses

SAN DIEGO, CA, March 30, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dedicated to providing life-changing access to sports, Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) is thrilled to announce its most meaningful grant distribution ever. Despite one of the most difficult years in recent history, CAF was able to fully fund all qualified 2021 grant applications for individuals with physical challenges to get back into the game of life, through sport. This year, 3,038 grants were distributed totaling $5.1 million in support to athletes ranging from Paralympic athletes to first-time applicants. CAF is a world leader and has helped thousands of athletes with physical challenges improve their lives through sports and fitness.

Throughout the pandemic, athletes around the world have been forced to change how they train. Despite the challenging year, CAF was able to pivot support to help athletes with their changing needs for living an athletic lifestyle. In addition to the 3,038 grants, CAF supported over 400 grant recipients who chose to defer their 2020 grants to 2021. Due to the pandemic, many of these grants could not be redeemed due to abrupt and continued cancellations of adaptive sports competitions.

“Our belief in the power of sport to strengthen from the inside out is deeper than ever,” said Virginia Tinley, CAF Chief Executive Director. “Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, many of these grants provide critical support for coping with the impact of the pandemic.”

Over half of the Paralympic hopefuls representing Team USA at the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo are past CAF grant recipients. In the coming months, they will continue to train and compete in order to qualify for the world’s greatest athletic stage in August. For the first time ever, NBC will air coverage of the Paralympics during prime time.

CAF has remained committed and focused on positively impacting athletes with life-changing grants around the world by providing adaptive sports equipment not covered by medical insurance such as running prosthetics, handcycles and sport wheelchairs, along with at-home training equipment, training and competition travel expenses.

This year’s grant distribution spans across 94 different sports and activities including track & field, wheelchair basketball, adaptive fitness training, blind surfing, wheelchair rugby, para-equestrian, Nordic skiing and outdoor recreation.  CAF’s new partnership with *GRIT Freedom Chairs* has made it possible for kids and adults with physical disabilities to be active, independent and adventurous while they enjoy outdoor sports and recreation in an all-terrain wheelchair. CAF partnered with GRIT on research and development of the customized chairs and funded all 80 grant requests, 15 of whom are youth athletes.

For 25 years, CAF’s exclusive prosthetic partner Össur has helped people in the limb loss and limb different community pursue a life without limitations by donating hundreds of prosthetic sports feet and knees to athletes. This year, 81 Össur prostheses were granted. “We are proud to continue supporting our partnership with CAF and funding these deserving individuals as they pursue their mobility and physical fitness goals,” said Tabi King, Director of Marketing at Össur. “Together CAF and Össur ensure that individuals with limb loss and limb difference can unleash their athletic potential with critical access to innovative sports prostheses, expert coaching, and instruction.”

CAF initiatives like the annual grant distribution are designed to help people realize their full potential. In the past year, CAF has increased awareness for transformational programs like its *High School Adaptive Sports Program* that supports and prepares student-athletes for school teams. This year, the national program will be virtual and 100 registered high school athletes will commence training this April.

Other key CAF programs like* Operation Rebound *supports injured military, veterans and first responders with a platform to help them live their best life with athletic equipment and a supportive community. Through CAF grants, camps, clinics, mentorship and community, athletes of all ages and abilities can enrich their lives through sport.

Through the 2021 grant distribution, challenged athletes in 49 states, Puerto Rico and 52 countries are receiving a variety of grants representing $5.1 million in support. Each individual has a unique personal story, and without this critical funding, participation in sports would be unattainable due to the general lack of insurance coverage for adaptive sports equipment and limited opportunities for these individuals to practice and compete.

One World Universe Inc. Provides Q2 Corporate Update

$

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, March 30, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via NewMediaWire -- One World Universe Inc. (OTC: OWUV), a publicly traded company that invests in sporting equipment and technology, distressed assets, business opportunities within emerging industries and providing humanitarian efforts in over 185 countries, has issued a Q2 corporate update to its shareholders and potential new investors.Management would like to start off by wishing its shareholders a blessed upcoming 3-day Easter weekend to those that acknowledge this special religious time of year. As we enter the 2nd quarter of 2021, the company has set attainable goals which we aggressively wish to over deliver on our expectations to our dedicated and loyal shareholder base.

Our legal counsel led by recently announced team member, Steve Napoles, has been working diligently to finalize the opening of the office in Mexico. The COVID pandemic has slowed the process as it has been challenging to provide proper documentation needed in Mexico, which normally could have been provided in person. We anticipate announcing the opening of the office this spring.

At One World Universe, we are in the business of targeting distressed assets, acquiring them at deep discount and then utilizing our immense network of business connections, access to proper capital and experienced management team to bring significant value to our investment. Finding additional synergistic businesses to acquire will only increase our revenue generating operation. At the moment, management is in the final stages of acquiring its next asset, which will be completed and announced in early Q2. This asset will open many doors for the company and will be the foundation for much bigger and better things that can be built upon it.

Our first asset was an investment in a Hollywood film featuring Nate Boyer. We spoke with Nate yesterday to get an update on the highly anticipated MVP movie. The motion picture currently entitled “MVP”, which stands for Merging Vets & Players, features cameos from NFL greats and a star-studded celebrity cast. The movie takes a deeper look into the sensitive subject of suicide, a tragedy that happens way too often amongst our military veterans as they transition into society as a civilian. Mr. Boyer, who plays a retired marine shared with us that the film is in post-production and anticipates the movie being submitted to film festivals in the coming months. He also expressed how the holidays and the unfortunate second wave of COVID slowed the process down but assured us that the team is back grinding away. When the timing is right, he will share more details such as release dates, trailers, and celebrity names that acted or assisted in the project.

Last, the company has decided it will proceed with applying for the form 10 QB up-listing and become fully audited. Although not the company’s immediate priority, the up-list is a goal that will give the company additional credibility in the investment community.  Our CFO has goals to complete this tier transition by the summer.

As we look forward to our future, we hope to reach out and help as many people with our humanitarian efforts as possible. Besides the acquiring of distressed assets, the company’s business model is one that we hope other corporations will eventually practice. Being able to utilize a portion of our profits to fund our humanitarian efforts is the ultimate way businesses can give back to those in need and have a positive effect on one’s local communities or on a global level.

12:40pm: Small-caps the bright spot as the major indices fall The Dow continued to sag, dropping 133 points, 0.4%, to 33,039 at midday. The Nasdaq Composite lost 44 points, 0.3%, to 13,016, and the S&P 500 declined 17 points, 0.4%, to 3,954. "Markets are limping to quarter-end with little enthusiasm it seems, although small caps are showing some early promise in the US after a tough session on Monday," IG Chief Market Analyst Chris Beauchamp wrote Tuesday. "While tomorrow brings the ADP payroll report as a lead-in to Friday’s non-farms report, there is little enthusiasm for the latter given that it falls on a bank holiday. Instead we have a week of few major catalysts, with two weeks to go until the beginning of the next earnings season." Small-cap stocks fared better, as the Russell 2000 rose 1.3% to 2,186.  Stocks considered reopening plays generally did well, including Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH), shares of which jumped 2.8% to $26.94. 10am: Proactive North America headlines: Namaste Technologies Inc (CVE:N) (OTCMKTS:NXTTF) (FRA:M5BQ) sees its 4Q revenue surge 85% to C$7.2M on cannabis product sales Fury Gold Mines Limited (TSE:FURY) (NYSEAMERICAN:FURY) (FRA:AUN1)  hits high grade mineralization from step out holes at Eau Claire in Quebec Viscount Mining Corp (CVE:VML) (OTCQB:VLMGF) (FRA:7VM) kicks off second of three-phase drill program at Silver Cliff Aurelius Minerals  Inc (CVE:AUL) (OTCMKTS:AURQF) (FRA:1GA) pleased with Aureus West drill results, which extend mineralization outside current inferred resource Mojave Jane Brands Inc (CSE:JANE) (OTCMKTS:HHPHF) (FRA:0HCN) successfully rebrands to Mojave Brands Tiziana Life Sciences PLC (NASDAQ:TLSA, LON:TILS) shares shoot up after receiving FDA sign-off for nasally administered monoclonal antibody to treat a person with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis First Cobalt Corp (CVE:FCC) (OTCQX:FTSSF) (FRA:18P) strikes exclusivity deal with lender over US$45M debt financing for refinery plans CytoDyn Inc's (OTCQB:CYDY) leronlimab decreases mortality by 82% among critically ill coronavirus patients after two weeks in CD12 trial VolitionRx Limited (NYSEAMERICAN:VNRX) appoints industry veterans Kim Nguyen and Richard Brudnick to its board of directors Tetra Bio-Pharma Inc (TSE:TBP) (OTCQB:TBPMF) (FRA:JAM1) gets Health Canada approval to file clinical trial application for ARDS-003 study on coronavirus patients Psyched Wellness Ltd (CSE:PSYC) (OTCQB:PSYCF) (FRA:5U9) initiates study on its AME-1 extract for gut health Canntab Therapeutics Limited (CSE:PILL) (OTCQB:CTABF) (FRA:TBF1) receives export license from Health Canada Vox Royalty Corp (TSXV:VOX) (OTCMKTS:VOXCF) to acquire royalty on Bullabulling gold project 9.40am: Wall Street opens in red Wall Street’s main indices opened in the red on Tuesday morning as investors remained cautious amid rising bond yields and the fallout from Archegos Capital. Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.14% at 33,126 while the S&P 500 dropped 0.28% to 3,960 and the Nasdaq fell 0.6% to 12,980. Stocks are under pressure after yields on 10-year US treasuries recently rose to their highest level in 14 months. Meanwhile, shares in GameStop Corp (NYSE:GME) were back in play in early deals, rising 2.5% to US$186.20 following news it has recruited a former Amazon exec as its new chief growth officer. 7:55am: Wall Street heads for lower open The main indices on Wall Street are headed for a softer open on Tuesday as the Archegos Capital hedge fund liquidation continues to make waves alongside rising bond yields. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is tipped to shed 47 points at 33,124 while the S&P 500 is expected to retreat 14 points to 3,957. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 is seen tumbling 103 points to 12,863. “Rising yields are once again set to drive market direction, with the growth stocks’ valuations being called into question. Rotation into value looks set to be the trade of the day,” suggested OANDA’s Sophie Griffiths. Swissquote’s Ipek Ozkardeskaya said the Archegos story continues to dominate the headlines, “as investors question whether the fall of the secretive hedge fund and its financial implications are done and dusted, or is it just the tip of the iceberg, that there are more players out there that have super leveraged positions, that could also go wrong and result in a similar fallout”. “If we start putting the pieces of the puzzle together, the GameStop saga and the short-squeeze frenzy, the Archegos capital fall, abnormal price rallies in cryptocurrencies and other obscure assets, there is a lesson to be taken. There is too much liquidity in the system, and separate occurrences are a clear sign that the financial markets are fuming, even though there is not an immediate systemic risk to the financial system right now,” Ozkardeskaya said. Talking of GameStop Corp (NYSE:GME), the video games retailer has appointed Elliott Wilke as its chief growth officer. Wilke previously held a number of positions at online retail giant Amazon Inc 9NASDAQ:AMZN). "At GameStop, Mr. Wilke will oversee growth strategies and marketing, with a focus on increasing customer loyalty and growing the reach of Power Up Rewards and Game Informer," the company’s announcement said. As far as economic data are concerned, the focus in the US today is likely to be the Conference Board’s consumer survey for March, according to Daiwa Capital Markets. “Daiwa America chief economist Mike Moran expects that the disbursement of another round of rebate checks and the expansion of supplemental unemployment benefits probably brightened consumers’ collective mood in March. That said, the expected reading of 96.0 – a lift of 4.7pts – is not especially impressive, as it trails other observations in the current cycle (e.g. 101.4 in October) and is far below the pre-pandemic high of 132.6 in February 2020,” Daiwa said. Three things to watch for on Tuesday: The earnings diary for Tuesday will see numbers from athletic apparel firm Lululemon Athletica Inc (NASDAQ:LULU) as well as pet food seller Chewy Inc (NYSE:CHWY) and the maker of Cholula Hot Sauce McCormick & Co (NYSE:MKC) Also of interest will be PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) after the firm rolled out a cryptocurrency checkout feature to its US customers On the macro front, US house price index data could be of interest alongside speeches from a number of the Fed’s representatives

Washington, March 30, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Howard University’s graduate programs in nursing, business, law and education each received significant increases in the *U.S. News and World Report’s 2022 **“Best Graduate Schools”* listing. The School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences is ranked *No. 46 *for its nursing master’s program and No. 79 in occupational therapy, the School of Business is ranked *No. 64 *for its full-time MBA program, the School of Law is ranked *No. 91* and the School of Education is ranked *No. 91*. Under the academic disciplines for social sciences and humanities, the Graduate School was recognized with a specialty rank of *No. 3 in African-American history* and an overall rank of *No. 48 in history*; it also received a specialty rank of *No. 7 in African-American literature* and an overall rank of *No. 62* *in English*. In the medical school rankings, the College of Medicine ranked *No. 1 *for Most Diverse Medical School, *No. 40* for graduates who serve in medically needy areas and *No. 47* for Graduates Practicing in Primary Care Specialties.

“This is an incredible accomplishment for our faculty and staff who work tirelessly to help train the nation’s best and brightest students,” says *President Wayne A. I. Frederick*, *M.D., MBA.* “By climbing the U.S. News and World Report’s graduate school rankings, we are demonstrating that our strategic plan to enhance academic knowledge is working. The credit goes to our faculty and administrators who live out our mission of truth and service every day. Our graduate students come to Howard to learn and hone their skills, but they leave here with a renewed vision of their purpose, and it’s great to have that work acknowledged by our peers.”

The College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences soared on to the list this year with a ranking of *No. 46 *for its master’s in nursing program and *No. 79* in occupational therapy. The college is comprised of top-ranked educational programs that prepare health care professionals to be leaders and innovators in practice, education, research and service. Graduates are prepared to deliver patient-centered, interprofessional care and utilize cutting-edge technology and evidence-based practice to improve the health of all people with an emphasis on promoting health equity toward eliminating health disparities.

“Howard University’s College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences’ graduate nursing faculty and college leadership have worked extremely hard to demonstrate the excellence that we knew was embedded in the program,” says *Dean Gina S. Brown, Ph.D., MSA, RN*. “Due to our small size, many were not aware of the success and the ability of the program to achieve greatness. However, we realize that ‘only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible.’ We celebrate our hard-working faculty who made this achievement possible. We can’t wait to see what the next year holds for this and all of our outstanding nursing and health sciences programs.”

Among the list’s top full-time MBA programs, the Howard University School of Business rose to *No. 64*, elevating six spots from last year. The School of Business and its award-winning programs were the first business school in Washington, D.C to receive accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The MBA program was recently ranked No. 45 on Bloomberg Businessweek’s 2021 Global Business School list.

“The School of Business is very happy with our upswing in the U.S. News graduate rankings this year to No. 64. It reflects the hard work of our faculty and staff and recognizes that Howard produces students who are making a significant impact on the global business world,” says *Dean Anthony D. Wilbon, Ph.D., PMP*. “It is a wonderful acknowledgment, and we will continue to strive for excellence through enhanced programming, curriculum and research.”

The Howard University School of Law (HUSL) jumped 16 spots to rank No. 91 on the U.S. News & World Report list. It is the school’s first time breaking the top 100. HUSL has been educating legal scholars for 150 years and boasts such notable alumni as former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, legal trailblazer Pauli Murray, and former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. School of Law *Dean Danielle Holley-Walker* recalls how the law school ranked No. 135 when she arrived and how she and President Frederick discussed establishing the goal to ascend into the top 100.

“It is gratifying to see the hard work of our faculty, staff and students recognized through our steady rise in the U.S. News rankings. While we know that rankings do not define the excellence of our law school, it is wonderful to see our gains in admissions, bar passage and career placement recognized through the rankings. It is an especially important signal for the entire legal profession to see Howard Law’s ranking rise while we are also ranked the #1 law school in the country in the U.S. News diversity ranking,” says Dean Holley-Walker.

The graduate program of Howard University School of Education (HUSOE) broke the top 100 for a second time with a rank of *No. 91*, up 22 places from last year’s ratings. This is the program’s highest rank to date. HUSOE is a Council for the Accreditation of Educational Preparation-accredited provider, which features the opportunity to travel abroad for global education experiences, engagement with the Urban Superintendent Academy, and a Ph.D. program in higher education leadership and policy studies.

“The unique challenges that we have faced teaching and learning in virtual environments have required innovative approaches to prepare our students for a rapidly changing world,” says *School of Education Dean Dawn Williams, Ph.D.* “It is our expectation that our graduates will succeed and remain steadfast in addressing social justice issues related to equity, access and opportunity across our academic disciplines. The elevated ranking has helped to highlight and affirm our ability to deliver academic programs that produce graduates that are able to bridge theory into successful practice. The School of Education faculty and staff are to be commended for maintaining high standards and balancing the needs of our students during these unprecedented times.”

Under the academic disciplines for Best Social Sciences and Humanities Schools rankings, the Graduate School at Howard University was recognized with a specialty rank of *No. 3 in African-American history* an overall rank of *No. 48 in history* as well as a specialty rank of *No. 7 in African-American literature* and an overall rank of *No. 62* *in English*. Howard University was established in 1867 – the same year that the University offered its first master’s degree. In 1934, the Graduate School was formally established; and in 1976, the school was reorganized into its current structure with divisions in the arts and humanities, biological and life sciences, engineering and physical sciences, and social sciences. The school awarded its first doctorate degree in 1958 in the field of chemistry. Today, the school offers 28 master’s and 27 doctoral programs

“We are enthusiastic about our continued rise in the rankings for our doctoral programs in history and English,” says *Interim Graduate Dean Dana A. Williams, Ph.D.* “We are consistently the leading producer of African-American doctoral recipients who earn a Ph.D. from an on-campus university. The quality of the programs that train our graduates is unparalleled. The national recognition of these programs will undoubtedly attract more students to the Graduate School, and we will continue to build a community of scholars dedicated to finding solutions to problems of the human condition.”

The Howard University College of Medicine (COM) ranked *No. 1 *for Most Diverse Medical School, *No. 40* for graduates who serve in medically needy areas, and *No. 47* for Graduates Practicing in Primary Care Specialties. The College of Medicine has been on the frontlines during the coronavirus pandemic through support of the patient care at Howard University Hospital and the on-site vaccine clinic, which provides vaccination shots to the community. COM provides students of high academic potential with a medical education of exceptional quality and prepares physicians and other health care professionals to serve the underserved. Particular focus is on the education of disadvantaged students for careers in medicine. Emphasis is placed on developing skills and habits of life-long learning and producing world leaders in medicine.

There is an urgent need for more Black doctors in this country in order to meet the demands of our aging population. Therefore, it’s exciting to see that our mission to train a diverse group of physicians to serve the most disadvantaged populations is being recognized by our peers through rankings like US News and World Report,” says *College of Medicine Dean Hugh E. Mighty, M.D., MBA.* “The on-going pandemic has only magnified the significant role diverse doctors play in addressing health disparities in minority communities. We look forward to continuing this work to create a talented pool of healthcare professionals who are committed to truth and service.”

In September 2020, Howard University reached a personal best, soaring to No. 80 on the U.S. News & World Report list of the best national universities, as evaluated on 17 measures, including first-year student retention, graduation rates, strength of the faculty and alumni giving. The University was ranked No. 145 in 2014 and has elevated 65 positions to achieve the No. 80 rank. Howard is also currently ranked No. 31 for undergraduate teaching, No. 50 best college for veterans, No. 58 most innovative schools and No. 3 among private institutions for social mobility (No. 11 overall).

4:10pm: Microsoft and Apple do the industrials no favors The Dow closed Tuesday down 104 points, 0.3%, at 33,067 a day after hitting a fresh record high. The Nasdaq Composite briefly rose into positive territory but ultimately fell 14 points, 0.1%, to 13,045, while the S&P 500 shed 13 points, 0.3%, to 3,959.  The small-cap Russell 2000 index gained 38 points, 1.7%, to 2,196. The blue-chip index's biggest droppers were Microsfot Corporation (NASDAQMSFT) and Appe Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) as both saw a share price drop of more than 1%. Traders once again had an eye on the 10-year Treasury yield, which rose to 1.77% early Tuesday, is highest level in 14 months, according to CNBC.

Stimulus payments headed to Social Security recipients soon

Social Security recipients and other federal beneficiaries who don't normally file a tax return should expect their coronavirus relief payments soon.

The federal government began distributing the third round of economic impact payments in mid-March to millions of Americans. But a paperwork delay temporarily held up payments to Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and Railroad Retirement Board beneficiaries who did not file a 2019 or 2020 tax return or did not use the tool made available on IRS website for non-filers.

The IRS said Tuesday that it expects payments will be sent to those beneficiaries on April 7.

The government needed updated beneficiary information to begin distributing the latest round of payments. After receiving data from the Social Security Administration on Thursday, the IRS began reviewing, validating, and testing tens of millions of records to ensure eligibility and proper calculation of the payments.

If no additional issues arise, the IRS said it expects to complete that work and to begin processing these payments at the end of this week. Because the majority of the payments will be disbursed electronically, they would be received on April 7.

The IRS updates its Get My Payment tool for eligible individuals once their payment is processed. The agency notes that the tool on IRS.gov will not be updated until this coming weekend with information for federal beneficiaries expecting payments next week.

The IRS said it is still reviewing data received for Veterans Affairs benefit recipients and expects to determine a payment date and provide more details soon.

Fastnet Yacht Race Challenge to Raise Money for a Care Home

Fastnet Yacht Race Challenge to Raise Money for a Care Home Wednesday 31 March, 2021Jonathan Moon, a Chandlers Ford resident, is due to take part in the Fastnet Yacht Race Challenge, a 700-mile offshore race, to raise money for St Cross Grange care home in Winchester where his dad currently resides. St Cross Grange specialises in dementia care and is part of Greensleeves Homes Trust, a registered charity providing personalised residential, dementia and nursing care. Mr Moon is undertaking the challenge with the Sail Racing Academy out of Hamble.

The money raised from the challenge will go towards purchasing a Tovertafel (Magic Table in Dutch) for the residents at St Cross Grange care home. It is a £7,000 piece of equipment developed for and with people in the moderate to severe stages of dementia. The interactive games break through apathy by stimulating both physical and cognitive activity and encouraging social interaction.

Jonathan Moon decided to undertake this challenging race just as his dad, Paul, did 40 years ago on a UFO 31 yacht called “The Happy Return”. The challenge will start in Cowes, and finish in Cherbourg via the Fastnet Rock off the SW tip of Ireland.

Jonathan Moon said: “I still recall going to watch the start from the Green at Cowes, and the feeling of excitement and worry, after all this was my Dad, my hero, the man who taught me how to sail, heading off into a race that 2 years before had taken the lives of 15 sailors.

Fast forward 40 years, and my Dad now lives in a care home in Winchester with Lewy Body Dementia – the same form that led to the death of the actor Robin Williams.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of him taking part in the Fastnet, and I have decided I should do this race, and by doing so, help raise money for the care home my Dad lives in.”

Adding even more poignancy to the occasion, Jonathan’s cousin, Oliver Moon, will now be taking part in the race. Oliver sailed in the 1981 Fastnet challenge with both his and Jonathan’s fathers, as the youngest competitor at only 15 years old. Sadly, Oliver lost his father just a few short months later, meaning the 1981 race was the last time Oliver would race with him.

Despite having been so young, Oliver clearly remembers the events of the first race, saying: "It was slightly daunting as the previous race had made national headlines for tragic reasons and we were one of the smallest boats in the race. At 15, I was also the youngest competitor, but I had sailed offshore in the boat in bad weather and at night before and, with my dad, my uncle, and my godfather Rob on board, it honestly never occurred to me that it could be anything other than a fun adventure. Another old friend of my dad's, Barry, completed the crew.

It was indeed an adventure that I will always remember, particularly as my father sadly died suddenly and unexpectedly a few short months later, at the age of 36. So, much though I couldn't have known at the time, the '81 Fastnet Race and the delivery trip home to Essex afterwards was my last ever sailing trip with him.

So, with my lovely wife's encouragement and at least partly in memory of my father, I am very pleased to have the chance to join Jon, along with Germaine and the rest of the crew. Hopefully, 40 years on, we will be able to recapture the same spirit of togetherness, fun and adventure that I remember so fondly, and I am absolutely delighted to support Jon's fund-raising efforts to help his dad, my uncle Paul, and the others in St Cross Grange."

First conceived way back in 1925 as a 608 nm challenge ending in Plymouth, 2021 will see the end point of the race move to Cherbourg, France, bringing this testing course up to nearly 700 nautical miles and the first major change to the course for nearly 100 years. Seen by many veterans as a number of smaller races encompassed by one big race it has played a large role in the growth of offshore racing and it certainly challenges all of your physical and mental skills.

The race will start from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, around 300 boats pass the Needles, heading along the southern coast of England towards the Lizard then around the tip of Land’s End. From there, the boats will head north through Celtic Sea waters towards the Fastnet Rock on the southern tip of Ireland. Once around the Rock, they will head back southwards, round the Scilly Isles then south east across the English Channel towards Cherbourg.

Jonathan Moon said of his fundraising challenge: “My Dad is still my hero, and if by my following his footsteps, could possibly help raise the money the home needs to provide the equipment to help enrich his life, and those of all the residents, that is a challenge I am happy to take on.

I will be sailing with Germaine Williams and the team at Sail Racing Academy, and they have generously offered to assist in the fund raising during this Fastnet Cycle.”

VolitionRx Limited sees Nu.Q Capture assay paper published in scientific journal

VolitionRx Limited (NYSEAMERICAN:VNRX) announced Wednesday that a paper discussing the company’s Nu.Q Capture assay’s ability to detect certain modifications in the circulating nucleosomes in the blood of cancer patients has been published in the journal Scientific Reports. Nu.Q Capture acts to isolate circulating nucleosomes from human plasma for further downstream proteomic and/or genomic analysis, the company said. It enables the quantification of histone modifications using less than 1 milliliter of human plasma and the analysis of the global alterations of histones Post-Translational Modifications (PTMs) associated with cancer. The paper, entitled "A Novel Proteomics Approach to Epigenetic Profiling of Circulating Nucleosomes,” was authored by Volition Research and Development Director Marielle Herzog and focuses on mass spectrometry analysis. “Our novel method detects and quantifies histone modifications present in the circulating nucleosomes in the blood of cancer patients,” Herzog said in a statement. We believe that our work has highlighted for the first time that histone H2A1R3 citrulline is, in plasma, upregulated in colorectal cancer patients and so could be a biomarker we target for future Nu.Q immunoassay development.” READ: VolitionRx appoints industry veterans Kim Nguyen and Richard Brudnick to its board of directors “Furthermore, the use of Nu.Q Capture may open up the possibility of using mass spectrometry not only for biomarker discovery but also as a high throughput platform for screening and/or diagnostics,” Herzog added. “It is also very good to see that this Nu.Q Capture assay was found to be robust, reproducible and easy to use in laboratories in both the U.S. and Europe. Finally, we are delighted that our report was published in such a good impact factor journal." The NuQ platform looks for molecular signatures of cancer by focusing on the nucleosomes — a section of DNA wrapped around a core of proteins — in the blood. As cancer cells multiply, they are modified in a way that distinguishes them from healthy cells and the traits of the malignant disease appear on the nucleosomes, which the platform analyzes. "Nu.Q Capture is one of Volition's four key pillars and this publication is another very important step forward for the company,” CEO Cameron Reynolds said in a statement. “I am extremely pleased that we continue to be on the very cutting edge of epigenetics, and aim for Nu.Q Capture to be an important enabling technology in the liquid biopsy space. We believe the Nu.Q Capture technology will be useful not only when used in combination with mass spectrometry to discover new biomarkers as per this paper, but also as a DNA enrichment technology which could aid diagnosis, treatment selection and treatment/ disease monitoring when used in combination with either sequencing and/or our Nu.Q assays." 10 Films That Keep the Holocaust Fresh in Our Memories (Guest Blog)

10 Films That Keep the Holocaust Fresh in Our Memories (Guest Blog) The words most associated with it are “never forget.” But with the Holocaust’s disappearance from too many curriculums — some 60% of young Americans are said to either not know what it was, or they think there were “only” 2 million murdered — forget forgetting. Let’s get back to remembering, on April 8, specifically, we have Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The timing merges with our country’s disturbing divisions. Some of the rioters storming the Capitol sported messages like “Camp Auschwitz” and “six million weren’t enough.” And then there’s that QAnon thing about Jewish space lasers. Museums (such as Steven Spielberg’s Shoah Foundation) and synagogues, of course, will be recalling those lost. The Shoah has now taken oral histories to a new level with its Dimensions in Testimony. Multiple cameras, 3D, and holograms allow visitors to press a button of choice and ask a survivor what daily life was like in a camp.

In the book world, the big new biographies of Mike Nichols and Tom Stoppard deal with their harrowing childhoods, escaping Nazism, and how that impacted their work and lives. The coming one about Philip Roth (who was often accused of being a “self-loathing Jew”) includes the line, “His decision, just 20 years after the Holocaust, to portray Jews in all their human variety — proved gravely offensive to many.”

Live theater may be on COVID hiatus, but the country’s numerous Jewish entities — while struggling to hang on — are streaming or presenting archival works. “Stories from the Violins of Hope,” as one example, is a beauty offered by the Braid in Los Angeles, and soon going national.

Movies-wise, the Oscar-nominee leader “Mank,” deals with a man whose religion played a big part in his life and career. Before becoming a journalist and screenwriter, he first worked as an editor for the American Jewish Chronicle, one of the earliest English-language Jewish publications. In 1935, when he was writing for MGM, Joseph Goebbels sent the studio a letter saying that none of the films Mankiewicz was involved in would be shown in Germany — unless his name was removed from the credits.

As we speak, Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke are heading to Budapest for “Moon Knight,” about the son of a Jewish rabbi who escaped from Germany on the eve of the rise of the Third Reich. While we wait, here is a list of ten films worth streaming and/or remembering — for various reasons — at this time.

*“Jojo Rabbit”*

This 2019 Oscar nominee may prove a good way to introduce kids to such a dark subject. It features a 10-year old German boy who is bullied — relatable already — and a single mom who has been hiding a Jewish girl in her attic. (No, not THAT hidden girl or THAT attic) Did we mention he has an imaginary friend who happens to be the fuhrer?

*“Life is Beautiful”*

The satire of “Jojo” was not to everyone’s taste, and this 1999 film — which won Best Actor for Robert Benigni and Best Foreign Film — was also criticized for treating the subject with occasional humor. But it manages to remind us what any parent would do in such an unimaginably dangerous environment.

*“Sophie’s Choice”*

Meryl Streep won her first Best Actress Oscar for this 1982 adaptation of the novel by William Styron. The Alan Pakula film offers the worst-case scenario for a parent heading to a concentration camp. And it deals beautifully with the P.T.S. that survivors live with, appropriate in today’s world with so many veterans of the current conflicts.

*“Schindler’s List”*

Spielberg’s 1993 unique take on the Holocaust, via a relatively unknown Austrian businessman who risked his life to help those in the Warsaw Ghetto. It is a memorable story about selfless heroism, with great performances by Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes. The Schindler Museum is worth a visit in Krakow.

*“Memory of the Camps”*

This 1985 doc comes from PBS’ “Frontline.” Original footage of three discovered and liberated camps is shown, filmed by several directors, including one Alfred Hitchcock. It is quite possible he never made a more notable horror film.

*“Judgment at Nuremberg”*

Talky and heavy-handed, but Stanley Kramer’s 1961 film serves as an important endpoint and lesson to the Holocaust. Spencer Tracy portrays the American judge sent over in 1947 to hear the cases of four Germans accused of crimes against humanity. Maximillian Schell won Best Actor. The film reminds us that when everyone knows something was wrong, the wrongdoers should be punished quickly. (Hint, hint U.S. Congress)

*“Son of Saul”*

A Hungarian film from 2015 — which won the Oscar — is heartbreaking and frightening. The story deals with a Jewish concentration camp worker trying to give a young boy a proper burial. This is tough going, but a good choice for young people becoming familiar with arguably the worst atrocity in history.

*“The Pianist”*

Best Actor winner Adrien Brody stars as a Polish Jew whose talent on those keys may have saved his life. It is about the power of creativity as much as about politics. You know it’s a great film if the Academy had to swallow its pride and award director Roman Polanski too.

*“Five Came Back”*

This documentary series is based on Mark Harris’ ingenious book about Hollywood’s top directors — Capra, Huston, Stevens, Ford and Wyler, who left careers to enter — and witness — World War II. The episode about George Stevens being among the first to view camp prisoners is remarkable. One is left unsurprised about the work those five produced upon their return.

*“The Tattooed Torah”*

It is a true challenge to introduce very young people to Holocaust stories but this highly touted children’s book — and subsequent animated short film — did so. Marc Bennett directed and Ed Asner narrates the 20-minute result, now available for streaming.

Allsup explains importance of changes to musculoskeletal listing for Social Security disability claims

Belleville, Illinois, March 31, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Social Security Administration (SSA) is implementing revisions to its listing of impairments, specifically for disorders of the musculoskeletal system effective April 2, 2021, and this will have an effect on thousands of individuals with disabilities, according to Allsup*, *which has helped more than 350,000 people receive their Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits nationwide.

The revised criteria for the musculoskeletal listing were announced in the Federal Register in December, and changes will apply to all applications for SSDI benefits filed or pending on or after April 2, 2021. Musculoskeletal disorders refer to a variety of conditions affecting bones, muscles, joints, the spine and connective tissues.

In December, the SSA stated revisions to the medical listings reflect the adjudicative experience, advances in medical knowledge and comments from the public following the notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) in May 2018.

“These new revisions will increase the number of SSDI denials as it will be more difficult for people with disabilities to meet the very stringent criteria for certain musculoskeletal conditions,” said T.J. Geist, director of Claims at Allsup. “However, while some applicants may not meet these new revised requirements and may be denied, they will continue to have the option to request a hearing with a medical professional or vocational expert.”

These new rules highlight the vital importance of having an expert SSDI claims representative such as Allsup to assist individuals with disabilities when filing their initial disability application, and – if their claim is denied – having someone to advocate for their claim when filing an appeal.

* *

The final rules reflect comments from advocacy groups, legal services organizations, medical organizations and individual commenters during the 60-day public comment period. While several commenters requested the rules be withdrawn due to the impact they may have on the number of application-level denials, the likelihood of delays and the increased need for hearings, the SSA declined to withdraw this final rule.

Some public comments that were considered but not adopted included requests to use plain language terminology instead of medical terminology, such as “pins and needles” instead of paresthesia, requests to clarify which sources are considered to be acceptable medical sources, and that physical therapists be considered acceptable medical sources.

However, some public concerns were addressed with these revisions:

· Muscle strength: Measurement will be based on a muscle strength grading system that is considered medically acceptable for the person’s age and impairments. The SSA will also accept muscle strength tests using scales other than the 0 to 5 scale, provided the scales used are equivalent, medically acceptable scales.
· Hand-held devices: The SSA clarified that hand-held assistive devices are devices one holds onto, not carries with their hands.
· Wheeled and seated mobility devices: These will be added to the list of functional criteria based on how the wheeled and seated mobility device affects the person’s use of the upper extremities.
· Obesity:  The SSA confirmed that obesity and its effect on the musculoskeletal system will continue to be evaluated to assess if it is a medically determinable impairment.

The new final rules will be in effect for five years, unless they are extended or revised, Geist explained. “These revisions to the medical listings will likely have a significant impact on the SSDI approval process, particularly at the initial and reconsideration levels,” he said. “But the SSA will not terminate someone’s benefits solely because of changes to these listings.”
