Four nations prepare for Veterans' Weekend battle This is Hull and East Riding --

HULL: Dozens of military tents will be erected in East Park, where soldiers from four nations will prepare for battle next month.

The organiser of Veterans' Weekend, which will be free, says the event will be the biggest and best yet.

It will feature a simulated battle between British, American, German and Russian troops.

Alderman Brian Petch said: "It's going to be a sight to behold.

"Veterans' Weekend is about celebrating past and present members of the Armed Forces."

The event takes place on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28.

The Red Devils, the British Army's skydiving team, will drop in at about 2pm on the Sunday, depending on weather conditions.

Mr Petch said: "We are getting 20 tonnes of sand delivered to make an artificial beach for families.

"It went down an absolute storm last year.

"We will have a Punch and Judy show and donkey rides."

Veterans of past conflicts will parade through the park and onto the main stage at 10.45am on Sunday.

Mr Petch said: "We are keen to involve little ones, so there will be plenty of activities for them.

"They can have a go at making a model Spitfire and they can get their photo taken next to a life-sized model.

"There will also be the chance for them to write to a serving soldier in Afghanistan." Reported by This is 22 hours ago.
