Sampson and Milton beat Nick Conabeare and David Wright in the second round, while Legassick and Jones knocked out Roy Ireland and Cliff Hagley. In the first round, veterans Gerry Franklin and Ron Stonebridge beat Nick Konig and Ricky Hall while Patrick Ellis and Adrian Tyrrell also came through against Steve Lucas and Nick Lear.
