Former Army captain and current Mostyn Law Firm attorney Sean Timmons helps disabled veterans with their legal issues and Veterans Administration (VA) benefits.
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) March 15, 2014
Sean Timmons, a lawyer with the Houston-based Mostyn Law Firm, is helping disabled veterans file more comprehensive benefits claims with the Veterans Administration (VA) in addition to offering more generic legal advice.
Timmons, a former captain in the United States Army with disabilities, spoke to veterans on Friday at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. The discussion was part of an effort by the Houston Bar Association (HBA) and Houston Volunteer Lawyers to provide disabled veterans with a better understanding of the VA benefits process and general legal issues. Some veterans can even qualify for free legal representation.
“Offering this advice to veterans dealing with disabilities can ease a lot of unnecessary stress and burden,” Timmons said. “The truth is that dealing with this process is complicated and frustrating. If we can give veterans the right information early, they’ll be more successful in getting the help they need and deserve.”
The clinic is held every Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the VA Medical Center on Holcombe Boulevard. Timmons and other attorneys cover everything from contracts and child support to family law and benefit claims. No appointments are necessary for the ongoing legal clinic. Additional clinics are also offered by the HBA in surrounding areas including Fort Bend, Liberty, Montgomery, and San Jacinto counties.
“Veterans have a hard time enforcing their rights and asking for help from their country,” Timmons added. “It’s on us as citizens to help ensure that veterans get the benefits that are owed to them. I can personally relate to the struggles that many former service members deal with and the VA benefits process should not be one of them.”
Along with Friday clinics, some counties have Saturday options on designated dates.
