Second Edition of Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation, Edited by Dr. Pam Jeffries, Achieves Recognition in 2013 AJN Book of the Year Awards

NLN Press, the publishing imprint of the National League for Nursing, has a winner in the prestigious AJN Book of the Year Awards, announced in the journal’s January edition. Each year, since the inception of the awards program in 1969, AJN has generated a list of what they judge to be the top publications in nursing and health care. This year’s list names first, second, and third-place winners in 17 categories.

“I've had emails from colleagues all over the world who are using it! The book wouldn’t exist without all your contributions,” Dr. Jeffries wrote in a note of thanks to the book’s contributing authors. Dr. Jeffries is professor; associate dean for academic affairs; and vice provost of digital initiatives in the School of Nursing at John Hopkins University in Baltimore. Nationally known for her research and work in developing simulations and online teaching and learning at Johns Hopkins and throughout the academic community, she is well regarded for her expertise in experiential learning, innovative teaching strategies, new pedagogies, and the delivery of content using technology in nursing education.
Dr. Jeffries holds key leadership roles in the NLN, as well. She directs the NLN’s Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators, a flagship program of the NLN’s Leadership Institute. The year-long program is designed for simulation educators who want to take the next step in their career development and assume a leadership role in their institutions. Dr. Jeffries also contributes to the development of simulation scenarios and unfolding cases for the NLN’s Advancing Care Excellence for Seniors (ACES) and Advancing Care Excellence for Veterans (ACE/V) programs.
The second edition of Simulation in Nursing Education may be considered a foundational text for the novice for its inclusion of core, essential content. It also offers advanced strategies for the seasoned simulation educator.
