Second Edition of Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation, Edited by Dr. Pam Jeffries, Achieves Recognition in 2013 AJN Book of the Year Awards

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 31, 2014

NLN Press, the publishing imprint of the National League for Nursing, has a winner in the prestigious AJN Book of the Year Awards, announced in the journal’s January edition. Each year, since the inception of the awards program in 1969, AJN has generated a list of what they judge to be the top publications in nursing and health care. This year’s list names first, second, and third-place winners in 17 categories.

Said NLN president Dr. Marsha Adams, “The National League for Nursing is proud to announce that the second edition of i Simulation in Nursing Education: From Conceptualization to Evaluation e dited by Pamela Jeffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, has been awarded third place in the 2013 AJN Book of the Year Awards in the category Nursing Education/Continuing Education.”

“I've had emails from colleagues all over the world who are using it! The book wouldn’t exist without all your contributions,” Dr. Jeffries wrote in a note of thanks to the book’s contributing authors. Dr. Jeffries is professor; associate dean for academic affairs; and vice provost of digital initiatives in the School of Nursing at John Hopkins University in Baltimore. Nationally known for her research and work in developing simulations and online teaching and learning at Johns Hopkins and throughout the academic community, she is well regarded for her expertise in experiential learning, innovative teaching strategies, new pedagogies, and the delivery of content using technology in nursing education.

Dr. Jeffries holds key leadership roles in the NLN, as well. She directs the NLN’s Leadership Development Program for Simulation Educators, a flagship program of the NLN’s Leadership Institute. The year-long program is designed for simulation educators who want to take the next step in their career development and assume a leadership role in their institutions. Dr. Jeffries also contributes to the development of simulation scenarios and unfolding cases for the NLN’s Advancing Care Excellence for Seniors (ACES) and Advancing Care Excellence for Veterans (ACE/V) programs.

The second edition of Simulation in Nursing Education may be considered a foundational text for the novice for its inclusion of core, essential content. It also offers advanced strategies for the seasoned simulation educator. Noted NLN CEO Dr. Beverly Malone, “This updated look at the challenges and opportunities of simulation reflects the most pressing issues, advances, and innovations in simulation that educators in both academic and clinical settings are likely to encounter and appreciate.” New chapters address the art of debriefing, integrating patient safety competencies into clinical simulations, and how the Quality in Safety for Education in Nursing (QSEN) competencies can be integrated into clinical simulation scenarios.

Simulation in Nursing Education is available through the NLN Book store.

Dedicated to excellence in nursing, the National League for Nursing is the premier organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. The NLN offers faculty development, networking opportunities, testing services, nursing research grants, and public policy initiatives to its more than 40,000 individual and more than 1,200 institutional members, comprising nursing education programs across the spectrum of higher education, and health care organizations.
