Legacy of Valor raises awareness about veterans’ contributions to society.

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) July 03, 2013

The Legacy of Valor, a yearlong community partnering and media campaign honoring veterans and their families throughout Southwest Florida, has announced new partners and demonstrates how philanthropy can enhance and celebrate the contributions of veterans to a community.

Fully supported by The Patterson Foundation, a private charitable entity that does not solicit funds, Legacy of Valor raises awareness about circumstances veterans face, programs that can support veterans and their families, as well as ways to encourage individuals and organizations in Southwest Florida to contribute time, talent, and other means to veterans-focused causes.

"The growth of the Legacy of Valor campaign will encourage our region to do more to honor those who have served and are serving – as well as their families,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “These partnerships are creating new realities in the ways our community connects with veterans and encourages everyone to participate by paying it forward – whether through time, talent or treasure.”

The Legacy of Valor campaign works with community partners that are collaborating to create and build upon existing events and activities that highlight and honor Southwest Florida veterans through spring 2014. Two Legacy of Valor coordinators, including a retired U.S. Army colonel, guided community partners as they developed partnership concepts for the campaign. This is a process that can be scaled and shared with communities across the country that are interested in community-focused models to honor veterans and their families. Current Legacy of Valor partners include the Baltimore Orioles, The Ringling, and Habitat for Humanity, among others.

Legacy of Valor is supported by an integrated media campaign entitled, “Freedom. Pass it on.” The media component of the Legacy of Valor campaign features videos and high-impact photography of more than 15 Southwest Florida veterans.
