More than 60 community-based runs will take place on April 12, to raise awareness of the innovative solutions to the challenges veterans face in their transitions to civilian life.

Team Red, White and Blue, The Mission Continues, and Team Rubicon,—three of the nation’s most innovative veteran services organizations—will partner to lead the 3rd annual “Run as One” on April 12, 2014. All across the country, thousands of veterans, military families and supporters will join together to show their support and to raise awareness of positive solutions to veteran transition. The event will serve as the celebration of a continued partnership, and will be a symbol of leadership, action, and collaboration across the veterans’ support landscape. In St. Louis the run will take place in Forest Park starting at The Muny, beginning at 9am.
“This generation of veterans wants to be leaders in their communities. A common goal of our organizations, is to demonstrate civic leadership through collaboration and innovative approaches to veterans’ service,” says Joe Quinn, U.S. Army veteran and Northeast Regional Director, Team RWB, “By running together, we’re building stronger, united communities of American veterans.”
Team RWB, Team Rubicon and The Mission Continues chapters, regions, service platoons, and communities will run united in more than 60 events across the country to promote this effort.
In each location, a 3-4 mile course will be set in a local park, track or notable venue, and there will be running and walking options for participants.
“Like the veterans in our programs, the Run as One participants are sending a very positive message: veterans are committed to their communities and each other—long after they leave the military,” said Spencer Kympton, U.S. Army veteran and president of The Mission Continues, “Fifty percent of veterans struggle with their transition from the military. Many veterans need to establish new connections as they transition from the military, and our organizations are creating innovative ways to connect them.”
The runs will also honor the memory of United States Marine Corps veteran Clay Hunt, who was an active athlete, veterans advocate and member of The Mission Continues and Team Rubicon organizations.
“Clay was one of my dearest friends, like a brother,” said Jake Wood, a Marine veteran and CEO of Team Rubicon. “We owe it to him, and all who serve, to ensure that our veterans are afforded a successful transition home."
