Ottawa, Ontario (PRWEB) April 09, 2014

The Canadian Polar Commission today announced the release of their iPhone application and mobile optimized website The application was developed to actively engage and share information on polar research with researchers, policy makers and the public on the most popular mobile device platforms in the marketplace today. The Polar Knowledge App makes it easy to find polar knowledge experts by name, keyword, specialty, and location; locate polar research facilities and monitoring sites; learn about upcoming polar events; discover polar projects and programming; get information on communities located in the North; identify new funding sources; and read the Polar Blog, which features the work of Canadian polar researchers. The application also gives users quick access to important new publications like the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the Council of Canadian Academies report on Aboriginal food security in the North.

The iPhone app particularly was developed to allow the Canadian Polar Commission to send push notifications to their audience with latest news and updates. Push notifications are the latest advancement in getting up-to-date information to their audience on-the-fly.

“Polar research is implicitly mobile as the community supporting our research covers the globe,” said Dr. David Scott, the Executive Director of the Canadian Polar Commission. “It is a natural step for our organization to make this information readily available on the latest mobile devices, and makes it easy for us to share our successes as they are released.”

The Canadian Polar Commission’s mobile applications are developed and maintained by Purple Forge. Purple Forge is the world’s leading provider of mobile applications to associations and government funded organizations, and have deployed apps for organizations such as the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the OSI Clinic Network serving Canada’s veterans seeking help for mental health issues and the International Association of Chiefs of Police for their field service guides.
