Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) addressed the alarming suicide rate of veterans in an interview on HuffPost Live Friday.
Ryan explained that an average of 22 veterans commit suicide a day, which is "almost one an hour." The statistic appeared in the 2012 Suicide Data Report released by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
To combat this issue, Ryan introduced a bill to promote alternative activities to "heal" the veterans, "whether it's meditation, yoga, tai chi, acupuncture, [or] healing touch."
The bill, Ryan continued, "tries to create ten centers around the United States in VA hospitals where they are pushing, promoting and studying these alternative techniques."
