National Non-profit’s Run For The Warriors Race Series Comes to Lorton

Registration is now open for the Inaugural DMV Run For The Warriors® in Lorton, Virginia on Saturday, October 18, 2014. It will take place at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, Virginia, strategically located between Ft. Belvoir and Marine Corps Base Quantico. All proceeds from the race will benefit Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit organization that assists combat wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen.
General Registration is $25, and $15 for veterans active duty military. Registration is free for wounded service members and Gold Star Families. Hope For The Warriors® and the community will honor wounded service members during the opening ceremony, which will begin at 8:15 a.m. The race will close with an awards ceremony. Hope For The Warriors® is placing special emphasis on the military child and will honor Military Children in the Opening Ceremony. Along with a kid-friendly race, there will be many other activities available. Our military children lead by example and will be part of the honorary planning committee too.
Hope For The Warriors® will also honor a wounded warrior at the Run who served post-9/11. The honoree chosen will be a leader in service to his/her community and to their family. The honoree will be an inspiration to the entire community and show each day that they are not limited by their injury.
Run For The Warriors® is a unique race dedicated to the men and women wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, their families, and families of the fallen. It is a celebration of their strength and resolve and a promise to continue restoring self, family, and hope. The Run For The Warriors® race series provides wounded service members encouragement and the opportunity to pursue the sport of running, walking, or cycling to assist in their physical and emotional rehabilitation.
Run For The Warriors® unites military and civilian community members, connecting and educating each on the importance of embracing their neighbors. The goal of each event is to establish a long term understanding and respect for the needs of local military families.
