Two Virginia Organizations Recognized For Their Outstanding Work in Support of Our Active Duty Military, Veterans and Their Families

Virginia Beach, Virginia (PRWEB) July 12, 2014

Hillier Ignite, an organization dedicated to promoting democracy and freedom by creating opportunity, today announced two recipients of the Ignite Warrior for Warriors Award for 2014. The announcement came at the ADS sponsored, Warrior East Expo, a trade show held yearly at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The Ignite Awards annually recognize and reward outstanding achievements in each of Hillier Ignite’s core focus areas: entrepreneurs/innovation, youth/community, and active duty military/veterans and their families.

Hillier Ignite Warrior for Warriors Award
The Hillier Ignite Warrior for Warriors award was created to ignite broader awareness and support for organizations assisting veterans and military families, by both recognizing and financially supporting their impactful work. In 2014, Hillier Ignite elected to present not only one, but two Warrior for Warriors Awards. The Ignite Warrior for Warriors Award includes an unrestricted grant of $25,000.

“When my team brought me the finalists, and we reviewed our standards for selection, it became apparent that picking one of these organizations over the other was going to be very difficult, but I got fired up at the opportunity to recognize both of these awesome organizations,” said Luke Hillier, Founder and President of Hillier Ignite.

Hillier continued, “We have so many great organizations caring for our warriors and their families, I decided to select two awardees this year..”

Wounded Wear Inc.
The first Warrior for Warriors Award was presented to the Wounded Wear Inc., a non-profit organization based in Chesapeake Virginia, dedicated to raise the national awareness of the sacrifice of wounded warriors, their families, and the families of fallen service members. In support of this mission, Wounded Wear advocates on behalf and facilitates opportunities for those who have sacrificed so much, as well as providing free fashionable clothing kits and clothing modifications to wounded warriors that empower them to rediscover the hero within. For more information please visit http://www.woundedwear.org.

Hillier said, “Wounded Wear is an exceptional organization serving our battle injured veterans. They have provided clothing packages and clothing modifications for countless Wounded Warriors since 2009. What touched us at Hillier Ignite the most, was when we learned that Wounded Wear has sent packages out to Purple Heart Recipients dating as far back as the Vietnam War. Now that’s dedication that knows no boundaries.”

Boulder Crest Retreat Foundation
The second Warrior for Warriors Award was presented to the Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness. Boulder Crest is a rural sanctuary that provides free accommodations, recreational and therapeutic activities and programs to help our nation’s military and veteran personnel and their families recover and reconnect during their long journey of healing from physical and invisible wounds of war. The 37-acre retreat is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Bluemont, Virginia, just 50 miles west of Washington, D.C. The retreat is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is entirely funded through private donations from individuals, foundations and corporations. “One of Hillier Ignites main focuses is the transition of the warrior back to society from active duty. The complexity of added physical or emotional traumas makes that transition more of a challenge. Boulder Crest provides the warrior, and his or her family, ideal conditions to reconnect, while still receiving the support needed to make the transition, away from the surroundings of a traditional hospital,” said Hillier

“Since opening in September of 2013, Boulder Crest Retreat has been host to over 550 wounded warriors and their family members. The retreat is honored to host our Nation’s Heroes and they do it by providing a sanctuary for healing through family rest and reconnection time and therapeutic retreats,” said Ken Falke, Chairman and Founder Boulder Crest Retreat.
