EI Design created an innovated team building exercise designed to enhance workplace dynamics. The result is to be integrated into an online course.

EI Design (http://eidesign.net) has created, tested and is ready to market an innovative team building concept.
“Drawing upon our mission to energise learning, the management team looked at innovative approaches to foster team building,” says founder Asha Pandey. EI Design’s management team had identified a crucial goal, which is to make EI Design a preferred workplace. As part of this, several initiatives were unveiled that encompass team building, additional measures for team retention, talent management and grooming for growth. Besides this, an integrated learning and development plan has been drawn up to cover holistic development of all employees.
EI Design’s team-building challenge saw four teams tackle a “near impossible” task – to create a Proof of Concept (POC) on Agile development methodology in eLearning. The teams had just five hours to complete their work. As an added incentive, each team’s solution had the potential to be included as a demo course and later converted into training material produced by EI Design.
“The mission impossible could be converted to mission possible only through the following,” says Asha, “strong leadership, teamwork, ownership, working effectively with team members they did not know or may have had trouble working with in the past, collaboration, pre-planning, conformance to processes, continuous check-pointing to complete the task in the stipulated time with the required quality (the Agile approach).”
Asha was very pleased with the results. All four teams met the essential mandate, which proved and reinforced the merits of Agile development. The top two teams were awarded cash prizes and the winning team’s design concept is now being developed into an online course.
Launching this new approach to team building and integrating the winning team’s work into an EI Design product, is part of the overall business plan for 2014/2015. During this year, EI Design aims achieve 30 per cent growth, continue with the next phase of their ProductLine InSight rollout and obtain CMM L3 certification by March 2015. Previous initiatives included a successful rebranding of the company, a new website, attending a learning design conference in the US and the celebration of an EI Design milestone anniversary.
The last few years have been very exciting for EI Design as they continue to build on over a decade of success with new and exciting initiatives. As veterans in the field of learning design, Asha and her team know they must continue to adapt and move with the times. This is why recent course offerings include highly visual and engaging elements such as storytorials (story based training) and gamification.
