InteCare was awarded $1.4 million for their inter-agency partnership to help veterans and their families aquire and maintain housing. This partnership is very unique in that it includes 4 community mental health centers; two of which are part of major hospital systems.

InteCare is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, behavioral health management corporation and behavioral health service network which was developed by Indianapolis area Community Mental Health Centers with the primary intent to enable inter-agency partnerships which better serve area citizens who face the many challenges of mental illness.
InteCare is very proud to announce the Veterans Administration has awarded them a 1 year, $1.4 million grant to support 450 veterans and their families in acquiring and maintaining long term housing in Marion, Shelby, Hancock, Hamilton, and Boone Counties. This program will provide peer mentoring and support services for veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Central Indiana. The Grant period is from October 1, 2013 - September 30, 2014."

The Coalition for Homeless Prevention and Intervention (CHIP) estimates 20% of our homeless neighbors in Indianapolis are veterans. According to the 2011 Homeless Count Report, families make up about 28% of the local homeless population. This includes 248 children under the age of 18 who are living in emergency shelters or temporary housing programs. Marion County schools report that they are serving another 2,925 children who do not have a home of their own.
