Gregory Sledge, a staunch Veterans advocate and founder of Veterans Moving Help, a company that employs veterans nationwide, cares. He questions why 12-step programs are the only treatment options for Veterans with substance abuse issues?

Gainesville , FL (PRWEB) August 15, 2013

Research released in March 2013 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse determined that the number one health problem of returning Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans was substance abuse. The breakdown on the level of drinking among returning military personnel was startling with 47% reported binge drinking - up from 35% in 1998.

Veterans Moving Help feels that Veterans are dying because AA/NA doesn't work for them. It's categorized as "the only way" to treat substance abuse by treatment centers, mental health professionals, AA/NA members and the Courts. If it doesn't work for you then the insinuation is you didn't try hard enough.

One size does not fit all when it comes to treating substance abuse.

Particularly a doctrine that espouses powerlessness as its central belief. Veterans Moving Help feels that AA/NA teaches people that they are incapable of running their own lives and must surrender to the group. Many veterans by nature are strong willed and won't surrender to any group or anything else.

Many other veterans refuse to identify themselves as addicts/alcoholics as is common place in recovery meetings. They feel that "addict" or "alcoholic" is not their identity.

We are happy for and congratulate those that are positively affected by AA/NA but there are many others whom are dying, suffering and/or in jail.

We at Veterans Moving Help propose mindfulness training that we are developing that teaches thought separation. We feel the key to addiction is understanding that thoughts are passing objects that we can choose or not choose to immerse ourselves in. For strong willed veterans as well as others, this method of solving their own problems from within will prove very attractive.

Veterans Moving Help is more than a nationwide moving labor company you call to load or unload your rental truck or container, we are using this platform to promote positive social change. Please feel free to contact us at 888-905-3348. Reported by PRWeb 3 days ago.
