Annual reunion for veterans

This is Scunthorpe --

MEMBERS of the Elsham Wolds Association will gather in the village this weekend for their annual reunion.

They will remember the 1,300 men who flew from the former bomber base, mainly from 103 Squadron, and did not return.

Most of the surviving veterans are in their late 80s and early 90s and their numbers for the event get fewer every year.

This year's reunion is the last to be organised by Barnetby stalwarts Ajay and Angela Vora and the AGM, which is also being held, will look for a way forward for the association.

On Saturday, veterans, family and friends will meet informally during the day at Elsham Village Hall and the dinner will follow – also in the hall – in the evening.

The annual reunion and memorial service takes place this year at 2pm on Sunday in Elsham Parish Church, and not as in previous years, when it has been held at the Elsham Water treatment building where the Elsham Wolds RAF Museum is.

However, the museum will be open after the service.
