This is Cornwall --A pioneering organisation in which injured veterans help give unemployed or isolated people a fresh start in life is to be rolled out in Somerset.
Active Plus, which is based in Truro, has already scored some impressive results with ex-military personal in Cornwall and Devon.
Director Tim Cocks said he was now looking to recruit veterans from Somerset who can be trained to deliver future courses.
"The success of Active Plus is the high quality experience that is uniquely delivered by injured veterans as instructors," he said.
"They have a wealth of knowledge and experience and can empathise with course participants as many of them have themselves been unemployed, experienced isolation and self-doubt about their future.
"Working together provides mutual benefits that motivates and inspires everyone involved.
"We would like to train and develop military veterans from the local area with the aim of expanding the delivery of Active Plus throughout Somerset."
Active Plus is a project where veterans who have physical injuries or have suffered from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) deliver support and training for people who are out of work or socially isolated.
This in turn helps give them the confidence and communication skills to find a job and make connections.
The scheme also provides opportunities for veterans to develop their skills, increase their confidence and support their health.
It was set up with funding European Social Fund Convergence project and at first aimed at jobseekers over the age of 50, but became so successful it won mainstream funding and now helps people of all ages into work or to set up their own business. Reported by This is 17 hours ago.
