The spirit of Christmas can be a year round sentiment; Veterans Day is a time when this song has a deeper meaning for many.

The new release of Shawn’s “My grown Up Christmas List” on iTunes and Amazon.com has happened at an opportune moment. Veterans Day is almost here which means that many Americans will be honoring their veterans, both living and honorably deceased very shortly. Fall is nearly here along with its colorful trees and the return of the stillness as nature becomes dormant once again. It is the season when Americans remember their living and their lost heroes. “My grown Up Christmas List” has lyrics that speak to all those who have lost loved ones in battles both current and long forgotten in lands that are usually far from home. One wouldn’t normally think of a Christmas song having meaning on Veterans Day, but it is the case with this particular song.
The song recounts the story of an individual who revisits Santa as an adult to make Christmas requests. Instead of asking for any material goods the request is for Santa to bring peace to all of humanity. The first three lines of the lyrical refrain in this song express reflection about the sadness that is brought on through the horrors of war. The songs lines are:
"No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts”
It is easy to see why this song would hold deep meaning for all the many grieving mothers, fathers, widows and children that have lost their husbands, wives, fathers, mothers and sons and daughters through the sadness of war.
The sentiment of the song makes it a heartfelt wish to live every day in the spirit of Christmas, because as the title of the album suggests; “Love knows no Borders”.
