Captain Selby, after a few months working at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan, became sick with digestive problems, rashes, and pain that made it difficult for her to walk. The Sergeant Sullivan Center (SSC), named for a Marine who fell to post-deployment illnesses, begins with the story of one man and connects his story with hundreds of thousands of veterans just like him, who return from war with serious bodily diseases. These post-deployment illnesses create a health crisis for our returning Veterans, and The Sergeant Sullivan Center is dedicated to getting them the healthcare they need.
The SSC publishes real stories post-deployment illnesses to help policy makers and philanthropists understand the need to develop innovative, effective healthcare for those suffering from post-deployment diseases for which existing treatments are insufficient.
