Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) September 04, 2013

After a brief ceremony and proclamations by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and County Executive Chris Abele, on the terrace of the Milwaukee County War Memorial, two veterans picked up their 60-pound backpacks and set off on a 2,700-mile trek by foot from Milwaukee to Los Angeles.

Veterans Tom Voss and Anthony Anderson are calling their journey “veterans trek’ and are doing it to raise money and awareness for PTSD and Dryhootch, a non-profit organization formed by combat veterans to help other veterans when they return home. Non-profit water charity, CannedWater4Kids (CW4K) is supplying cold, spring water to help hydrate the pair throughout their journey. CW4K founder, Greg Stromberg said, “We are grateful for those who serve to protect our freedoms. We need to support them when they return home. Supporting Tom and Anthony’s efforts seemed like the right thing to do.”

Anthony Anderson says he's overwhelmed by the support of their trek. They have already raised half of their $100,000 goal before their journey has even started. In addition, emails and calls from people across the country offering them food, shelter, shower and Internet access when in their town keep pouring in. The pair hopes to arrive in Los Angeles in January.
