Honoring Our Veterans

On November 11 our nation will remember and reflect on the sacrifices that so many men and women made to defend our nation.

Today there are more than 20 million veterans living in the United States.

They put on their country's uniform to protect the principles of liberty on which our country was founded; brave men and women who put their lives in the face of danger to protect our freedom.

They're heroes.

And so are the 1.4 million active duty military currently serving around the globe.

Unfortunately, many of our nation's veterans and soldiers struggle to re-assimilate back into their lives at home. They face challenges like unemployment, mental health issues, and homelessness.

The Veterans Administration (VA) reports that 22 veterans commit suicide every day. And some believe it's even more than that. That's double the suicide rate of the general population.

As a nation we must do more to honor our veterans and service-members. Our government must keep its promises to our veterans and their families -- and the rest of us should do what we can to remember their sacrifice.

This Veterans Day -- and every day -- do what you can to show our veterans and current servicemen and women they're appreciated: thank them; buy them lunch; give them your seat in first class; or help them find a job.

We all owe them at least that much. Reported by Huffington Post 6 days ago.
