WheelchairPersonalities expands back cover designs to serve healthcare industry and veterans. Miss Wheelchair USA 2010 sees meaningful benefits.

Columbia, MO (PRWEB) November 14, 2013

Americans focused intensely when veterans visited the U.S. WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. during the federal government shutdown.

While visits were tense, WheelchairPersonalities brought veterans and visitors closer together. WheelchairPersonalities bridged generations with the Columbia, MO firm's wheelchair back covers.

With 70 donated patriotic covers, people reach out easily to veterans, says Sharon Paulsell, owner of WheelchairPersonalities. Paulsell's firm has donated chairback covers to each Central Missouri Honor Flight delegation.

The chairback covers “are rolling billboards,” says Paulsell. The wheelchair displays clearly announce “WWII Veteran” in large letters. The firm also manufacturers custom back covers for hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and other facilities.

The patriotic veteran-themed wheelchair backings will be used on all Central Missouri Honor Flights. Approximately 300 veterans a year fly from central Missouri to the D.C. WW II, Korean and Vietnam memorials.

“We want the public to know these men and women deserve our respect,” says Paulsell.

Paulsell, and her husband Steve Paulsell, are owners of WheelchairPersonalities. They also know the needs of veterans flying to the D.C. WWII Memorial. As Honor Flight volunteers, they have assisted 1,500 veterans visiting the national memorial.

"Sometimes we discount those in wheelchairs, particularly our veterans," says Sharon Paulsell. WheelchairPersonalities changes perceptions.”

"In many locations, "wheelchair backs send a “we don’t care” message,'" she adds. "I want to do something about that.”

Jan Bell, a volunteer with the Central Missouri Honor Flight program, says the 70 donated wheelchair backings are a big hit with World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans flying to Washington, D.C. war memorials.

Seeing the patriotic covers in use “makes all of us proud. More people notice the veterans and know who they are by seeing the backing.”

“The covers have a clear purpose,” says Steve Paulsell. “It’s our way to give back and respect our veteran, disabled and senior communities.

In addition to veteran-themed covers, WheelchairPersonalities offers many designs and colors. The covers are U.S. made, customizable and washable.

The patent-pending wheelchair covers can be used in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, veterans' organizations, businesses and other places. Individuals, too, buy covers for loved ones and friends.

Healthcare administrators also like the designs for practical reasons. They cite WheelchairPersonalities’ products reduce the institutional appearance of wheelchairs and present a positive image.

Phaedra Mariott Olsen, Miss Wheelchair USA 2010, says WheelchairPersonalities “enables those of us who use wheelchairs to share our personality and start a conversation with the world."
