The D-Day Squadron is the American contingent participating in the Daks Over Normandy flyover crossing the English Channel to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2019.

OXFORD, Conn. (PRWEB) February 07, 2018

The Tunison Foundation, a non-profit organization that owns and operates World War II era aircraft, today announced the launch of the D-Day Squadron to honor the citizen soldiers who helped liberate Europe and end the War. They will lead a contingent of American C-47 aircraft in a trans-Atlantic trek to participate in the Daks Over Normandy event from June 2-9, 2019 which will include a mass flyover across the English Channel to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 2019.

The Squadron’s website is now live at DDaySquadron.org to educate people of all ages about the significance of D-Day and how these American C-47 World War II military transport aircraft will honor veterans in an epic flyover and drop of paratroopers over the Normandy coast. See the ambitious route these meticulously restored vintage aircraft will take and pledge your support to get them safely to Europe for this historic event.

“Few veterans of D-Day are still with us, and this celebration marking the 75th anniversary may be our last chance to honor these brave war heroes,” said Moreno Aguiari, executive director of the D-Day Squadron. “We are committed to ensuring their significance and sacrifice is fully appreciated for generations to come, and are developing an education program to honor these citizen soldiers and their impact on D-Day, and ultimately the Allied victory in World War II.”

The D-Day Squadron fleet, consisting of dozens of American C-47s, will depart from the Oxford Airport in Oxford, Conn. in late May 2019. Mark your calendars to see this remarkable sight as these historic warbirds take off for their Atlantic crossing. Oxford is easily accessible from Hartford, Conn. and New York City.

Slated to join the fleet are several C-47s that were combat veterans of D-Day as well as several other crucial missions across Europe during the course of the War. Among the aircraft are the Tunison Foundation’s Placid Lassie, Valliant Air Command Warbird Museum's Tico Belle and the Commemorative Air Force’s That’s All, Brother, the lead aircraft in the formation of 925 C-47s in the massive drop of 13,000 paratroopers behind enemy lines hours before the first troops stormed the beaches on D-Day.

About Daks over Normandy
Daks Over Normandy will be the largest assembly of authentic C-47 World War II aircraft and paratroopers since June 6, 1944, all to honor the service and sacrifice of the citizen soldiers who risked life and limb to bring about the beginning of the end of the War in Europe on D-Day. Aircraft from around the globe will participate in events both before and after the June 6 flyover, with community events and static displays in the United Kingdom and France for the education and enjoyment of the public. Learn more at DaksOverNormandy.com.

About the D-Day Squadron
The D-Day Squadron is the part of the Tunison Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. In June 2019, the D-Day Squadron will lead an American fleet of historic, restored C-47 World War II military aircraft in Daks Over Normandy, a flyover of more than 30 international aircraft to drop 250 paratroopers over the original 1944 drop zones in Normandy commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The event will honor the citizen soldiers of the War, whose bravery led the Allies to the liberation of France, and then to an end of the devastating War in Europe. The Squadron’s education program takes the compelling story of the citizen soldier to audiences at airshows and events off the flight line to honor these brave Americans and ensure their memory and significance is appreciated for generations to come. The group’s efforts are funded through the generous tax-deductible contribution of their supporters. Learn more at DDaySquadron.org.

Company Expands Partner Ecosystem To Increase Interoperability And Performance For Distributed Cloud and Container Native Applications

SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) February 07, 2018

Instana, the leader in APM solutions for monitoring dynamic containerized microservice applications, today announced the company has become a named member of the OpenTracing Specifications Committee, after many years as a contributor in the OpenTracing community. Furthering their dedication to the diversity of cloud, container and microservice technologies, the company also announced their Silver Membership at the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), in addition to new technology partnerships with Docker, Red Hat and Amazon.

“While Instana has been an active participant in OpenTracing workshops and projects for years, we wanted to emphasize our commitment to the OpenTracing standard by becoming a named member,” said Fabian Lange, Instana vice president of engineering. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done with OpenTracing projects over the years to help optimize the developer experience, and excited that we’re hosting the next specification work session this May.”

As the leader in managing cloud-based containerized microservice applications, Instana’s APM solution discovers, monitors and traces applications across a large number of varied technology platforms.

For tracing, Instana includes automatic tracing as well as support for OpenTracing, the leading open source methodology for collecting distributed timing data (a trace) from distributed microservice applications. This hybrid approach gives Instana’s users the flexibility to cover any type of application framework.

Instana’s APM solution leverages automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automatically monitor, visualize and understand microservice and application performance for complex dynamic applications under constant change. The solution correlates performance and tracing data to help guide users to potential problems and corrective actions.

“OpenTracing represents a much better way for developers to capture contextual data connected to the specifics of the processing requests over traditional logging methods,” remarked Jeff Newton, DevOps Manager at iOffice. “Tracing is a much leaner method, and the fact that the context holds across distributed requests is much more powerful.”

As more organizations increasing their reliance on container and cloud-native technologies to deploy applications, the demand for monitoring solutions to operate natively in these environments is growing. By teaming with leading open source and cloud-native technology providers, Instana optimized the delivery of intelligent analysis to customers deploying containerized, orchestrated microservice architectures.

Instana’s technology alliance announcements includes:· Named member of the OpenTracing Specification Committee
· Silver Member of Cloud Native Computing Foundation
· Membership in the Amazon Web Services Partner Network
· Inclusion in Docker Store Marketplace
· Certification in the Red Hat Tech Ready Partner Program

“With the diversity of cloud, container and microservice technology platforms, it’s important to work with partners like CNCF, OpenTracing, Docker, Red Hat and Amazon to help ensure that our customers’ applications achieve their performance goals,” said Pete Abrams, Instana COO and co-founder. “Today’s complex applications demand seamless interoperability and a monitoring solution which automatically manages across all the technologies.”

Trump’s Tiananmen Square? Protesters Vow to Lie Down in Front of Tanks at Military Parade Dozens of protesters are planning to disrupt President Donald Trump’s planned military parade in Washington, D.C., vowing to lie in front of tanks to keep them from moving.

“We now have nearly 50 Americans who have signed on to lay in front of the tanks of Trump brings out a military parade,” activist Arn Menconi wrote on Wednesday in a gesture he said was inspired by the Chinese pro-democracy protesters who made history during the 1989 demonstrations in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.

“We are not an empire drifting towards extinction,” added Menconi, a Colorado-based activist who founded a charity to provide activities for at-risk youth.

“We would go to Washington, D.C., if such a crazy and insane act occurred and we would lay down in front of the tanks, just like the heroes and the courageous students did in China in 1989,” said Menconi in a Facebook video.

“They need to hear our voices. This isn’t clickbait for the media. This isn’t something that the big shots do. This is something that you and I can do.”

Menconi, who also made something of a name for himself as a the Green Party candidate in the 2016 Colorado Senate race, said he was prepared to be thrown in jail for his civil disobedience.

Fisher House Foundation Reaches 8 Million Nights of Lodging

Rockville, MD, Feb. 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fisher House Foundation reached a new milestone recently after providing eight million nights of lodging to military, veterans and their families since 1990.  As of today, on any given night, up to 1000+ families can safely and free of charge sleep in a Fisher House.

Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.  Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites with private bedrooms and baths.  Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room.  The Foundation has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $400+ million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation.

“We are so thankful to have reached this milestone,” said Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation. “Thanks to a generous American public, we have been able to continue our mission for over 25 years. These homes are much more than just a refuge or free place to stay.  They also provide a place for the entire family to heal together.”

One of those families was the Mitchells. “I am convinced that the best medicine is family and love,” said Col. Ben Mitchell, USA (Ret.). “Waking up in the morning and having my kids jump in bed with me was the catalyst that drove me to such a rapid rehabilitation. We could not have done this without Fisher House.”

The Foundation also operates the Hero Miles Program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members, as well as the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge.  The Foundation also manages a grant program that supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.

“Eight million nights of lodging is so much more than a statistic,” said Fisher.  “It represents the number of lives that Fisher House has touched.  In fact, on any given night up to 1,000 families can safely and free of charge stay in a Fisher House. These are the families of our military and veterans, whom we are privileged and honored to serve.”
