Veterans beginning careers in agriculture to spend grant money on May 19 Armed Forces Day

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., April 23, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tractor Supply Company will honor 50 veteran farmers nationwide during an Armed Forces Day shopping event Saturday, May 19 in partnership with Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC). The rural retailer will donate $50,000 in awards through FVC’s Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund, a grant program that offers assistance to veterans in the early stages of their farming operations, culminating in a one-day shopping event across the country.Tractor Supply will provide 50 Fellowship awardees with a $1,000 gift card to purchase critical items needed to support their agriculture business. In celebration of the 68^th annual Armed Forces Day, which honors all U.S. military personnel, recipients coast-to-coast will redeem their gift cards at their local Tractor Supply store on May 19. Veterans will be paired with knowledgeable Tractor Supply team members for a personalized shopping experience tailored to their unique farming needs.

“Agriculture provides a meaningful, purposeful career that not only benefits the farmer, but also the community it serves,” said Colin Yankee, retired army captain and senior vice president of supply chain at Tractor Supply Company. “Through Tractor Supply’s partnership with Farmer Veteran Coalition, we can provide a token of our gratitude to these veterans as they continue to give back to their communities in a new way through agriculture.”

This year, FVC, the nation’s largest nonprofit assisting military veterans embarking on agriculture careers, distributed a total of $300,000 to 125 recipients through the Fellowship Fund. Rather than distributing money directly to the veterans, awardees utilize third-party vendors to provide items they have identified will make a crucial difference in the launch of their farm business. In addition to monetary support, the program offers one-on-one mentorship support to each awardee. Since the Fellowship Fund’s beginning in 2011, the program has awarded grants valued at more than $1.9 million to 500 veterans pursuing an occupation in agriculture following their service.

“We are so excited about this new partnership with Tractor Supply Company and what it means for farmer veterans,” said Michael O’Gorman, founder and director of Farmer Veteran Coalition. “Through their support to our Fellowship Fund, Tractor Supply will make a big impact on America’s rural veterans by giving them a much-needed boost as they launch farming businesses.”

This year’s Fellowship awardees were selected by a team of seasoned agriculture industry professionals. Criteria included farm training and experience, personal investment in their farm business, a clear need for assistance, and their vision and goals for the future of their farm business.

Karnataka Election 2018: Angry BJP workers protest after Yeddyurappa says son not to contest from Varuna

In a surprise announcement,BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa today said his son B Y Vijayendra would not contest from Varuna constituency in Mysuru against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son Yatindra, triggering angry protests from party workers that led to a police lathicharge.

Bringing an end to what was expected to be a tough face-off between the sons of two state veterans, Yeddyurappa made the announcement at a meeting organised by the party at Nanjanagudu near Mysuru, just a day before the deadline for filing of nominations ends. Soon after his announcement, angry BJP workers flung chairs and other furniture and raised slogans against party president Amit Shah and even tried to stop the cars of Vijayendra and other leaders as they were leaving.

Police said they made a lathicharge to bring the situation under control. "Vijayendra is not filing his nomination today.. A common man (party worker) will be fielded and he will be filing the nomination," Yeddyurappa said, without citing any reason. "With folded hands I request all of you to support and bless that candidate and make him win," he said. The BJP has not so far officially announced any candidate for Varuna constituency, but Vijayendra had been campaigning for weeks and even taken a house on rent there. Vijayendra tweeted saying he wholeheartedly stood by and supported the party's decision "in all circumstances."

"I wholeheartedly stand by & support party's decision in all circumstances. I urge the party cadre to maintain peace & tranquility which is of foremost importance.""I will continue to work towards bringing @BJP4Karnataka to power in the state under the leadership of Shri @BSYBJP!," he said in his tweet. According to party sources, Vijayendra, Yeddyurappa's second son, was to file his nomination from Varuna today. It was not known what prompted Yeddyurappa to make the announcement, amid reports that he was concerned over delay in the party leadership announcing his son as the candidate.

Siddaramaiah, who has chosen neighbouring Chamundeshwari and Badami in north Karnataka to contest the May 12 assembly election, has been representing Varuna after it became a constituency in 2008 following delimitation.
Congress has fielded Siddaramaiah's son Yatindra from Varuna. Yeddyurappa's elder son B Y Raghavendra is the sitting member of the assembly from Shikaripura in Shivamogga district. Yeddyurappa is contesting from Shikaripura.

Award-winning Los Angeles-based PR firm helps executives hone messages for every audience – whether traditional media, social media, sales presentations, funding pitches or board meetings

CULVER CITY, Calif. (PRWEB) April 23, 2018

mWEBB Communications today announced an extension of its range of services to include standalone media and messaging training in addition to strategic consulting. The introduction of new module-based services will serve companies ready to augment their existing internal communications programs with media and messaging training for any audience, whether traditional media, social media, sales presentations, funding pitches or board meetings - or for those that are simply looking for guidance as they kick off their public relations and communications programs. In addition, mWEBB is now offering custom content creation to amp up thought leadership profiles for clients on social media platforms.

“Our goal is to bring high-quality, affordable solutions to small and mid-sized companies that want to jumpstart internal/external messaging, public relations, corporate communications and crisis communications programs or who are looking for help with custom content creation,” said Melanie Webber, President of mWEBB Communications.

Since its launch in 2009, mWEBB has helped drive media and brand awareness and (literally) million-dollar coverage for over 40 clients in the automotive, technology, lifestyle, wine and natural foods spaces. In addition, the agency has played a key role in helping position clients for acquisition, investment and IPOs.

“In today’s crowded and noisy media space, journalists – let alone your intended audience – simply don’t have the time to work to decipher your message,” said Webber. “Job one is to understand and define your message and targets; job two is to get that message out clearly, colorfully and coherently - no matter the medium - and job three is to watch your business grow.”

“Our media and messaging training services can teach anyone – from CEO to sales manager – how to improve communications with core stakeholders and our strategic consulting is ideal for augmenting or re-inventing existing initiatives.”

The mWEBB Communications team are public relations veterans who believe that story and message should be the driving forces of any PR campaign. The company is the recipient of the 2011 American Business Award for Public Relations Campaign of the Year, and recently won Best in Business PR Campaign of the year for natural beverage leader Califia Farms. As specialists in start-up branding, public and private company communications, and consumer and B2B public relations, mWEBB has trained executives and company spokespeople in a wide array of industries, and is often called upon to revamp messaging and communications strategies.

“Media training with mWEBB was a revelation. In just one day of training, our executives learned how to identify, clarify and control the message in media interviews, while our team refined its ability to communicate our core messages whether in a business development meeting, at a trade show or on the phone with a reporter,” said Allan Cooper, EVP, Strategic Partnerships of Reviver Auto. “The mWEBB team not only confronted our challenges, but also nurtured us into understanding how style and preparation not only helps to get the message out, but also makes it resonate.”

In addition to its award-winning Public Relations services, mWEBB Communications' standalone services include:· Media/Messaging Training: onsite, offsite and/or video training to ensure that your team not only has message clarity, but also is well-prepared to deliver it for any media opportunity, sales meeting or presentation.

A wounded soldier has received the world's first full penis and scrotum transplant **

· *A soldier whose genitals were devastated by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan has received the world's first full penis transplant at Johns Hopkins Hospital.*
· *The transplant included the penis, scrotum, and part of the abdominal wall.*
· *The surgery took 14 hours and was conducted by 11 surgeons.*

--------------------Surgeons at Johns Hopkins University have given a wounded soldier the world's first full penis and scrotum transplant, the hospital announced Monday.

The soldier, who remains anonymous, lost his genitals to an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. In a 14-hour surgery last month, a team of 11 surgeons was able to transplant the full penis, scrotum, and partial abdominal wall from a deceased organ donor onto the soldier's body.

They attached the urethra, arteries, blood vessels, muscles, nerves, and more to the patient.

"It's a real mind-boggling injury to suffer, it is not an easy one to accept," the soldier said in a statement. "When I first woke up, I felt finally more normal… [with] a level of confidence as well. Confidence… like finally I'm okay now."

While several penis transplants have been conducted around the world over the past few years, this is the most extensive transplant ever done, because of the degree to which the explosive blast damaged tissue in the soldier's groin and pelvic region.

"We are hopeful that this transplant will help restore near-normal urinary and sexual functions for this young man," W.P. Andrew Lee, the head of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, said in a statement.

It's possible to reconstruct a penis using tissue from the body instead of doing a transplant, but patients in such cases need an implant to get an erection, which comes with a higher risk of infection.

In a video, Hopkins Medicine shows exactly how this transplant worked.

This type of transplant, in which a body part or tissue is transferred from one individual to another, is called vascularized composite allotransplantation.

The organ donor's testicles were not part of the transplant, which means the patient will continue to need testosterone injections as he recovers. For now, four weeks after the surgery, the patient is reportedly doing well.

The scientists behind the work have been preparing for this type of transplant for approximately five years, and they may be able to use the same technique on other injured veterans in the future. According to one study, 1,367 male servicemembers sustained injuries to the genitals between October 2001 and August 2013, with 31% of those injuries affecting the penis.

Now it appears there may be a new and better treatment even for severe cases, as long as surgeons are able to find a donor.
