TULSA, Okla. (PRWEB) September 26, 2018

Waterfield Energy, a leading provider of advanced oil and gas software, and M33 Growth, a growth stage investment firm, today announced they have partnered to accelerate Waterfield’s technology innovation, go-to-market investment, and customer success resources.

An oil market rebound, and the resulting merger and acquisition flurry has created a unique opportunity for Waterfield Energy. “While our competitors have been busy managing through changing ownership, we have made unprecedented strides in the development of our fully customizable cloud-based and on-premises accounting software solution,” said Pete Waldroop, CEO at Waterfield Energy. “Our transparent and predictable pricing, streamlined upgrades, and unmatched support has led us to a 95% customer satisfaction rating and garnered the trust of some of the most respected names in the oil and gas industry. Nearly half of our customers have chosen to switch from a competitor to our more modern offering. We see tremendous opportunities to accelerate our product development and growth. This led us to partner with M33 to expand our resources and quicken our time to market with on-demand solutions.”

M33 Growth’s mission is to partner with bootstrapped, high-growth companies located outside traditional startup hubs who have built industry-leading products. “We see Waterfield as a perfect partner,” said Mike Anello, co-founder and managing director of M33 Growth. “Their team’s deep expertise and unique vision for solving the complex oil and gas accounting challenges are the reason we invested. As a minority partner, the M33 team will be supporting Pete and his team, adding our strategic and operational expertise to support Waterfield’s product development and strategic acquisitions to expand their leadership position.”

Education Design Lab Announces #TeeUpTheSkills Cohort of Employers and College Partners to Test Effectiveness of Digital Credentials

Yearlong design and hiring challenge aims to help historically underserved students demonstrate 21st century skills to access better career pathways

WASHINGTON (PRWEB) September 26, 2018

Education Design Lab (the Lab), a national non-profit leader in the design and implementation of new learning models, announced today that it has accepted seven institutions, each with at least one employer partner, into the first, highly selective #TeeUpTheSkills cohort.

The cohort institutions serve 175,000 students in total. Most of the institutions serve a majority percentage of historically underserved populations, including a significant number of African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, active duty military, veterans and rurally-based students.

The #TeeUpTheSkills Cohort:· Alamo Colleges District (Employer Partner: San Antonio Works)
· American Public University System (Employer Partner: MVM, Inc.)
· Central New Mexico Community College (Employer Partner: TLC Plumbing, Jaynes Corporation)
· Langston University (Employer Partner: ONEOK)
· San José State University (Employer Partner: Cisco)
· University at Albany- State University of New York (Employer Partner: Startup NY, Branch VFX)
· University of Maine (Employer Partner: Bangor Bank, Northern Light Health)

This groundbreaking #TeeUpTheSkills initiative is the first of its kind to bring schools and employers together to understand how 21st Century Skills digital badges can close the skills gap and improve hiring practices, particularly for historically underserved learners. Most of the institutions in the cohort serve a majority percentage of underserved populations, including a significant number of African American, Latino, Native American, active duty military and veterans, and rurally-based students. The Lab will work closely with the employer partners, ranging from Fortune 500s to start-up collaboratives. The teams will identify the most in-demand 21st century skills for the entry-level jobs they need to fill and then offer the Lab’s 21st Century Skills digital badges to a pilot group of students at each institution. “Our employer advisory boards have continued to share the need for credentialing technical and 21st century skills,” said Denise Ojeda Industry Liaison at Central New Mexico Community College.

“Micro-credentials have gained a lot of traction quickly,” said Kathleen deLaski, founder and president of the Education Design Lab. “But to fulfill the promise that they will help students articulate key hire-ability skills and make them digitally visible to employers, we need hiring managers to give us clearer “market signals” to validate these as credentials. We are very excited that these employers see enough promise to jumpstart this translation process.”

Participating employers have agreed to look at the resume of any student who earns the 21st century skill badges, so learning providers can learn how to better prepare and equip all students with the skills and credentials they need to be digitally “discoverable” by these and other employers.

Asa Stone, Presidential Fellow of Micro-Credentialing at Central New Mexico Community College sees the promise: “How do we understand and translate skills that students have already acquired through life? The adversity faced by our students of color, budgeting restraints, being a single mom, etc. are all grounds where students are developing these transferable skills.” Luke Dowden, Chief Online Learning Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor at Alamo Colleges District agrees, “ultimately it gives both our students and our employers partners the confidence that when a student transitions into the workforce they have the skills they need to meet the employers business needs.”

This initiative is launched in partnership with Credly and Checkster, ed-tech platform and assessment partners who are providing services pro-bono. #TeeUpTheSkills pilots will run during the 2018-2019 academic year.

TeeUp refers to the “T shaped worker,” the concept that successful career climbers need to master technical skills, but perhaps more importantly, they need horizontal, 21st century skills as they move up the career ladder to help them collaborate, problem solve, communicate and build empathy and leadership competencies. The Lab will be sharing “T-profiles” for different job pathways and other learnings from this project through its Innovator Network. Sign up to join here.

Announcing the availability of a new sexual harassment training course to help employers in New York City and New York State meet new sexual harassment training requirements and fast-approaching deadlines.

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (PRWEB) September 26, 2018

Traliant, an innovator in online compliance training for the modern workforce, today announced the availability of a new sexual harassment training course to help employers in New York City and New York State meet new sexual harassment training requirements and fast-approaching deadlines.

New York State recently issued draft model training guidelines requiring that New York-based employers conduct annual sexual harassment training for all employees starting October 9, 2018. All employees − including part-time and temporary workers − must complete the training before January 1, 2019, and new employees must be trained within 30 days of their start date.

The New York Edition of Traliant’s industry-leading Preventing Discrimination and Harassment meets the training requirements and covers all the essential topics required under New York State’s anti-harassment legislation and New York City’s Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Act.

For more information, please visit: New York Sexual Harassment Training

“This special edition enables organizations doing business in New York to start training their employees today and feel confident they can meet the new standards and January 1 deadline,” said Mike Pallatta, Traliant’s CEO and Co-Founder. “The web-based training course is cost-effective, easy to deploy and provides employers with a new approach to sexual harassment training that can help them effectively address the issues and challenges of the #MeToo era.”

Traliant’s interactive sexual harassment training explains and presents realistic examples of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, bystander intervention and other timely topics, including diversity and inclusion, unconscious bias and workplace civility. Employees explore these topics in a series of bite-sized episodes, featuring video scenarios that challenge them to choose alternate endings. Quizzes, assessments and thought-provoking exercises are woven into each episode to raise awareness of sexual harassment and other workplace misconduct, and promote positive behavior and attitudes.

‘Single Parents’ Star Leighton Meester Says Playing a Mom Gives Her ‘Room to Have a Little Bit More Depth’

‘Single Parents’ Star Leighton Meester Says Playing a Mom Gives Her ‘Room to Have a Little Bit More Depth’ Leighton Meester’s new role as a sharply-opinionated single mother in the ABC fall comedy “Single Parents” may seem like a departure for the one-time “Gossip Girl” star, but the actress said it’s a role that better reflects her current life and interests.

“I hadn’t been actively seeking [to play a mom], but I think it makes sense to me,” Meester, herself the mother of a young child, said in an interview with TheWrap. “Those roles, by their nature, are given the room to have a little bit more depth. … After having a kid, watching roles come in, I connect to those types of roles more now.”

Much like “New Girl,” co-creator Elizabeth Meriwether and J.J. Philbin’s last project, “Single Parents” revolves around a group of oddballs — in this case, solo parents of elementary school-aged kids (widowed, divorced, never married — the show, at least for the time being, is less interested in their backstories than their current realities). The pack of misfits develop a borderline co-dependent friendship out of proximity and necessity.

ABC/Richard Cartwright

Meester stars as Angie, the de facto leader of the group — part-carpool network, part-support system — who has little patience for Will (Taran Killam), an eager new class parent whose whole life has been consumed by attending to the needs of his daughter. Brad Garrett, Kimrie Lewis and Jake Choi also star.

“She’s just figuring it out as she goes along, having to navigate life as an autonomous grownup,” Meester said. “Still having the part of her that is her and her own personal identity, but it shifts so much when you have a kid. You kind of lose sight of that a bit.”

Previously known for her dramatic work, Meester gets the chance to flex her considerable comedic chops in the role, which she described as “at once very fun and light-hearted and kind of silly, while still tackling a little bit more of a serious side of the difficulty of single-parenting.”

“It seemed like — and has turned out to be — a very fun kind of project to work on in itself, aside from the material,” she said. “Being on set and having it be this really fun and collaborative experience is really rewarding.”

ABC/Richard Cartwright

*TheWrap: What first drew you to this role?*

*Meester:* [It was] the people putting it all together. The executive producers, the writers, the showrunner, all of their previous work. Jason Winer, Elizabeth Meriwether, JJ Philbin, and Taran Killam was attached as well. Which all was very enticing. I just really loved all of their work. And the script, it was so fun to read. Every character was so well-defined, and the group dynamic was so fun. It really worked for me. Aside from that, the fact that I was able to take on a role that was all at once very fun and light-hearted and kind of silly, while still kind of tackling a little bit more of a serious side of the difficulty of single-parenting. I wanted to take on that challenge. It’s been fun.

*I know you are a mother in real life, too. Is it a role you’ve sought to play on screen as well?*

I hadn’t been actively seeking that out, but I think it makes sense to me. Those roles, by their nature, are given the room to have a little bit more depth. But I think also just turning 30 and actually having a child, people are sometimes like, “Well you can’t play a young woman anymore. You have to play a mom.” But the lucky thing for me is that this mom is such a well-rounded character with so many other aspects to her character that are very grounded. I wasn’t actively searching for it, but now after having a kid, watching roles come in, I connect to those types of roles more now.

*Also Read:* Johnny Galecki Will Appear on 'The Conners' - and Juliette Lewis Will Play His Girlfriend

*You’re not a single parent, but is that struggle to keep your kids from taking over your whole life something you found yourself relating to?*

Yeah, doing it for an hour, or a week, or a month, or however long you do it solo, it’s so hard, even for an afternoon. Major respect to single moms who do it 24/7 and also work and have to juggle a lot. But I completely relate to the character in that she’s just figuring it out as she goes along, having to navigate life as an autonomous grownup. Still having the part of her that is her and her own personal identity, but it shifts so much when you have a kid. You kind of lose sight of that a bit.

ABC/Mitch Haaseth

*This and “Making History” from a couple seasons ago are more overtly comedic than the roles you’ve taken in the past. What has drawn you to doing these kind of comedies?*

I think it’s kind of just everything. This show in particular — I think the family dynamic all sort of makes sense to me. It seemed like — and has turned out to be — a very fun kind of project to work on in itself, aside from the material. Being on set and having it be this really fun and collaborative experience is really rewarding. And being on “Making History” was no different. Being part of an experience with people I find so funny and going to work everyday and not feeling like it’s work.

*You, Brad Garrett and Taran Killam are all TV veterans, but you all have very different backgrounds. Have you found yourselves learning from each other at all?*

Yeah definitely. I’d always leave it to Taran and Brad to tell us great stories about all of their experiences. [Taran] is from “SNL” and [Brad] is from a long, long run on a sitcom, and then he’s also a crazy amazing stand-up comic. He’s amazing, in every way. He’s also on “I’m Dying Up Here,” so he’s got a lot of projects going. But yeah, I feel like I have a lot to learn. And they’re so open to helping and supporting. The nice thing is that, yeah, everyone is coming from different worlds, but at the same time we can come together. Between me and Taran and Brad being parents, that’s something we can all find in common. That kind of shared history is really fun.

*Also Read:* Marvel Female Heroes Series From 'Wonder Woman' Writer in the Works at ABC

*Having started acting at a young age, what is it like to be on the other side of that now, working with these young kids?*

I think everyone has a different experience, obviously. And as a kid, my experience was colored by my home life more than by what I’d consider my set life. I would say, for me, had I been in their position, maybe it would be different. But those kids are so smart. They’re very mature, very professional. And they’re on a show that’s fun and funny — there’s a playground as part of our set. It’s not a drama where they’re having to cry every scene, it’s not a real hardcore dramatic show. So I guess the pressure isn’t as high, at least I hope it’s not. I hope that they’re having fun. They all love each other, and they’re all super funny.

The 2018 Lone Sailor Awards Dinner, hosted by the United States Navy Memorial, was held on September 20th at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Approximately 500 people gathered to honor the newest Lone Sailor Award recipients, Harvey C. Barnum, Jr. and Bill Hannigan.

WASHINGTON (PRWEB) September 26, 2018

The United States Navy Memorial hosted its 2018 Lone Sailor Awards Dinner on Thursday, September 20th at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

The Lone Sailor Award is given to Sea Service veterans who have excelled with distinction in their respective careers and lives during or after their military service. Approximately 500 people showed up to honor the Navy Memorial’s newest award recipients, Harvey Barnum, Jr. and William Hannigan. The number of members, corporate partners, and supporters in attendance was higher than it had been in at least 3 years.

The dinner program began with the Presentation of Colors by the United States Sea Services Color Guard and the United States Navy Ceremonial Band. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mike Petters, President and CEO of Huntington Ingalls Industries. Rear Admiral Frank Thorp IV, President and CEO of the Navy Memorial, provided welcoming remarks and highlighted the organization’s growth in the past year. This progress includes an eight percent increase in visitation, the opening of two new exhibits, and several new technological upgrades inside the Navy Memorial Visitor Center.

The tribute to Hannigan was given by Vice Chief of Naval Operations (VCNO) Admiral Bill Moran, who presented him with the Lone Sailor Award. Hannigan, a U.S. Navy veteran, attributed much of his success to his family, his shipmates on the USS Jack SSN-605, and the crew’s Skipper.

Dr. Jack London provided the tribute for Barnum and presented him with the Lone Sailor award. Dr. London is the Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of CACI International, Inc. and a member of the Navy Memorial’s Board of Directors. Barnum spoke about his time in the U.S. Marine Corps and the events that led up to him receiving the Medal of Honor in 1967.

The Lone Sailor Awards Dinner is hosted by the Navy Memorial every year to Honor, Recognize, and Celebrate its constituents and award recipients. Next year’s event is scheduled for September 19th, 2019. To learn more about the Lone Sailor Awards Dinner, contact Lisa Barker at LBarker(at)navymemorial.org.

PRØHBTD Presents High Cuisine, New Original Show That Will Spark Culinary Revolution With Its Haute Cuisine Psyche-Delicacies

Travel Docuseries Will Follow Michelin-Starred Chefs Over Ten Episodes As They Create Truly Forbidden Cuisine.

LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) September 26, 2018

Leading cannabis lifestyle media and brand platform PRØHBTD today announced the start of pre-production on High Cuisine, a new travel, food and mind-altering docuseries, in partnership with Totem Media.

Debuting in 2019 across PRØHBTD’s rapidly growing network and additional distribution partners to be announced, the 10-episode, 22 minute travel docuseries will follow chefs Noah Tucker and Anthony Joseph -- veterans of Michelin-starred restaurants in Amsterdam and London -- as they travel the world in search of local dishes and ingredients in a mission to collect ancient mind-expanding herbs and plants to create truly forbidden cuisine. Their ‘psychoactive gastronomy’ takes the recent cannabis cookery trend up a notch, using exotic (safe, and mostly legal) ingredients like kanna, Syrian rue and ‘magic’ mushrooms to create a semi-orchestrated journey over several hours, courses and states of mind.

“We are making a big push investing in premium content that expands PRØHBTD's voice and audience and High Cuisine is evidence of that,” said PRØHBTD’s Chief Content Officer, Joshua Otten. “Not only are Noah and Anthony incredibly gifted chefs driven by a passion to find unique ingredients and altered experiences, but this is the first non-scripted network cooking series we've seen that embraces food, travel and entheogens in a way that is truly authentic.”

“High Cuisine puts a press on what is taboo and what is the line between what is comfortable, like food, and what maybe isn't comfortable, like the drugs different cultures experiment with. People have always been interested in food and drugs, but no one has ever really put them together in the way that we're doing it,” says High Cuisine chef Noah Tucker.

The first episode of High Cuisine takes place in Amsterdam and follows the chefs as they uncover and explore dozens of mind-altering herbs, leaves, barks, roots and seeds, all native to the cultural city. The chefs meet local experts in historic Dutch medicinal herbs, as well as modern cannabis testing techniques and restaurateur colleagues. The series provides an interesting, tasty addition to contemporary psychedelic trends, whether it’s the ‘micro-dosing’ of psychedelics for focus and creativity that has been popularized by Silicon Valley execs, or the boom in ayahuasca tourism and the correlating interest in indigenous tribal herbalism.

High Cuisine’s vision is to revolutionize the dining experience by skillfully fusing together haute cuisine and ancient mind-expanding herbs and plants into mouth-watering recipes that will take you on an unforgettable culinary journey.
The High Cuisine trailer first debuted on Facebook and quickly went viral, garnering more than 2.8M views without any sponsor support or paid media. Watch the trailer now at prohbtd.com/highcuisine.

Three companies received special recognition. The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) from Tampa, Florida received The Access: ABLE Award. Suicide Rate Among Younger Veterans Has Increased, VA Data Shows Watch VideoDespite a decline in the suicide rate among all veterans, more and more younger veterans are dying by suicide.

New data from the Department of Veterans Affairs shows the suicide rate among veterans between 18 and 34 was the highest of all age groups, jumping from 40.4 deaths per 100,000 in 2015 to 45 per 100,000 in 2016. Younger veterans were the only age group whose suicide rate increased from 2015 to 2016. With that being said, veterans 55 and older had the largest share of suicide deaths in 2016, making up 58.1 percent of all veteran suicides.

Although the suicide rate among all veterans did fall between 2015 and 2016, it was still 1.5 percent higher than the rate among non-veteran adults.

There were more than 6,000 veteran suicides each year from 2008 to 2016. Nearly 70 percent of veteran suicide deaths in 2016 were by firearm, compared to 48 percent of U.S. suicides overall.

Operation Homefront Supports Victims of Hurricane and Volcano Disasters

SAN ANTONIO (PRWEB) September 27, 2018

With extensive flooding from Hurricane Lane following on the heels of the Kilauea volcano eruption, Operation Homefront, is ensuring that military families in Hawaii impacted by natural disasters are not forgotten. While the military often plays a key role in protecting civilians from the threat of natural disasters, the homes and families of our service members are as vulnerable as those of the civilian population.

Military families in Hawaii who were displaced, suffered damage, or are otherwise experiencing financial hardship because of these disasters may be eligible for assistance and are encouraged to apply for help through the organization’s Critical Financial Assistance program.

Operation Homefront can provide military families in need of assistance with hotel and temporary residence payments, mortgage/rent payments, utilities, auto payments/repairs, auto insurance, and food assistance. All needs will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Critical Financial Assistance is also available to support families of sick, ill or injured military veterans who left military service with an honorable discharge within seven years (or after September 11, 2001 for home repair assistance); as well as those actively drilling National Guard and Reserve personnel. To qualify, families must show a critical need for assistance. Detailed information on eligibility criteria is available at the Operation Homefront’s website, OperationHomefront.org.

About Operation Homefront: Founded in 2002, Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so that they can thrive – not simply struggle to get by – in the communities they have worked so hard to protect. Recognized for superior performance by leading independent charity oversight groups, 92 percent of Operation Homefront expenditures go directly to programs that support tens of thousands of military families each year. Operation Homefront provides critical financial assistance, transitional and permanent housing and family support services to prevent short-term needs from turning into chronic, long-term struggles. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the support from thousands of volunteers, Operation Homefront proudly serves America’s military families. BRIDGEPORT, CT (PRWEB) September 27, 2018

BTX Global Logistics, a global shipping and logistics company, sponsored the 4th Annual Step Up for the Brave challenge by Homes for the Brave that recently took place at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Homes for the Brave (HFTB) hosts the challenge annually to raise money to help men, women and children leave homelessness behind. The not-for-profit organization has a special focus on helping veterans and their families.

“BTX Global Logistics was proud to support Homes for the Brave through the Step-Up challenge this year. This is a very special organization committed to providing veterans and other homeless individuals with safe housing and helping them return to a productive and meaningful life,” said Katie Zap, BTX Manager of Corporate Relations. “Making a difference in whatever way we can is a part of BTX’s DNA.”

To date, $52,000 has been raised for Homes for the Brave through the 2018 Step Up for the Brave challenge. The fundraiser is open until Sept. 30th of 2018.

"Thanks to the remarkable support and participation by BTX Global and its employees, Homes for the Brave's 4th Annual Step Up for the Brave was by far our most successful one yet,” said Vince Santilli, CEO of Homes for the Brave. “The Step Up is our signature event and it enables our organization to generate much needed revenues so that we can provide housing, case management, life skills coaching and vocational services to homeless men and women, primarily Veterans that we serve.”

BTX Global Logistics, a silver sponsor of the event, was among 72 teams and nearly 240 climbers who participated in the fundraiser. The challenge included climbing up and down 1,000-steps per lap around the Webster Bank Arena. Participants were encouraged to climb as little or as many steps as they could.

Brian Latham, of the BTX team, completed a total of 13 laps and 13,000 steps around the Webster Bank Arena.

"It was very rewarding to be able to participate in an event supporting veterans in need. What motivated me to keep going was the amount of patriotism present throughout the event. From the participants to the volunteers cheering us on, it was a great experience to be a part of and I look forward to next year’s event,” says Latham.

The 2018 Step Up for the Brave women’s division winner was Jennifer Bentley who completed the 1,000-step course 19 times. In the men’s division, there was a tie among four Navy Seal candidates who completed the course 20 times each. They were Nick Sherman, Chris Ladd, Peter Carino, and Luke Chang of the US Navy RDAC team.
