'Fractured Lives' follows the journey of one man whose life is hurled into the world of espionage and treason

BRISBANE, Australia (PRWEB) December 14, 2018

Debuting author Gregory Moore marks his entry in the world of fiction with the release of “Fractured Lives: A New John Tilbury Thriller” (published by Balboa Press AU). In this novel, a covert organization experiments on the minds of unknowing innocents and one man must decide if the experimentation is for the greater good or a greedy play for power.

Neuroplasticity is the new paradigm of how the human brain changes itself when provided with specific signals through the senses that can be activated by technology, increasing the brain’s thinking capability. It sounds nice in theory, but what if this technology is abused?

Major John Tilbury is an ex–SAS commando who served in Afghanistan and Iraq and now counsels veterans. He is faced with the moral dilemma of neuroplasticity being used by an unscrupulous organization called OASIS for monetary gain. His main helper in the fight against covert operatives is Thomas Black, a trained assassin and friend to Tilbury. The battle they fight is one of gargantuan proportions as they go head-to-head with the CIA and Pentagon.

Tilbury is caught between acting as a killing machine or supporting neuroplasticity’s positive outcomes when used with the right intentions. In this case, innocent people are in the clutches of OASIS and their dark deeds, but Tilbury’s investigation is further complicated by a sexy detective. In this world of espionage and treason, can cognitive abilities be enhanced to make a better world? Or will greed and the need for power turn this experiment into nothing but a failure that ruins lives?

In this John Tilbury thriller, Moore offers readers a different perspective of the brain and its complexities, and how technology can be misused in changing the brain’s capacity to think. ChappPAC’s 2019 lineup kicks off on Saturday, February 2 with a Musical Theatre Comedy Workshop led by Broadway veteran and funnyman John Treacy Egan (My Fair Lady, The Little Mermaid, The Producers). Students will learn all about musical theatre comedy, including what it takes to be funny on stage from one of the Great White Way’s best.

On Saturday, March 2, ChappPAC is offering another unique opportunity for blossoming theatre enthusiasts with Yes You Can: Empowerment Through Musical Theatre Workshop. In the words of ChappPAC manager John Fanelli, this particular workshop is designed to encourage students to “let go of fear and doubt to get yourself on stage and in that show!” The event will foster a fun and encouraging environment, allowing students to take both their performance skills and confidence to the next level with guidance from actor and choreographer Michael Fielder (Off Broadway, National Tours: Carnival, Mambo Kings, Havana After Dark).

Spring Hope, NC, Dec. 14, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via NEWMEDIAWIRE --Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP), a global leader in the industrial hemp industry with bi-coastal processing centers including the largest multipurpose industrial hemp processing facility in the western hemisphere in Spring Hope, North Carolina; one the most sophisticated post hemp local processing centers in Medford, Oregon; and, a 4,500-acre hemp growing eco village in Golden Valley, Arizona, announced today that the 2018 Farm Bill has passed in both the House and Senate, and is expected to be signed into law by the U.S. President before the end of this year. The measure easily passed the lower chamber of the House by a 369-47 vote. The legislation, which passed the Senate in an 87-13 vote on Tuesday, allows for farm subsidies and has language that federally legalizes industrial hemp production.

“This is a historic decision for our nation,” said Hemp, Inc. CEO Bruce Perlowin. “Our company had the foresight to begin research granted in the 2014 Farm Bill, and have been awaiting progress on the 2018 Farm Bill for quite some time. Since our company has been operational in multiple states over the years, providing the necessary infrastructure for farmers to maximize their output, we know that this legislation will benefit local economies tremendously.”

According to Perlowin, Hemp, Inc. has spent $25 million on building its industrial hemp infrastructure ($3 million over the course of 5 years building out the infrastructure in Arizona, $20 million building out the infrastructure in North Carolina, and $2 million in Oregon building out its infrastructure which only took 90 days). In Oregon, Hemp, Inc. employed over 200 locals at the height of this year’s harvest.

Future expansion model includes joint venture partnerships with farmers and investors and other interested parties. “While we won’t forget the small family farmer, these joint ventures are designed for the millionaires and billionaires of the industry and billion dollar hedge funds that are investing large amounts of money into the industrial hemp sector,” says Perlowin. “The small family farmers are just as important to us so we will help them grow hemp and everything that needs to be done in terms of processing so they can re-emerge back into the American landscape.  This is now possible for the first time in decades. The small family farm in America has dwindled and disappeared over the last 100 years.  In the last 5 years, the farmer’s net income has dropped by 50% making it the worst farming conditions since The Great Depression.”

Hemp, Inc. is turning that around and promoting a “Back to the Land” movement… similar to that of the 1960’s.  However, this time with the help of industrial hemp, farmers will have a livelihood that can sustain their preferred way of life with the ease of transporting seeds, clones and biomass across state lines and the ability for farmers to get crop insurance and bank accounts.  This historical movement cannot be fully described in a press release but the incredible benefits will allow Hemp, Inc. and its joint venture partners, the American farmer and the “Back to Land” movement to flourish.

“We’re already operating in half a dozen states so the speed in which we can now deploy, with this joint venture partner infrastructure, can be done at a much faster rate. Hemp, Inc. is committed to creating communities of all kinds to keep up the incredible demand for CBD and the other 25 thousand products hemp can make,” said Perlowin.

Those interested in becoming a joint venture partner with Hemp, Inc. for a cornucopia partnership agreement should contact Hemp, Inc. at ir@hempinc.com.

Following this historic development on the $867 billion Farm Bill, Hemp, Inc. was featured in The Washington Times for their foresight. The article, “Hemp activists predict $867 billion farm bill will lift U.S. to new heights,” discusses the tenets of the 2018 Farm Bill, as well as how the 2014 Farm Bill paved the way for Hemp, Inc. to conduct research programs throughout the U.S.

“Everything from the ability to open up bank accounts, to get crop insurance — giant hedge funds are now [allowed] to buy hemp stocks,” Perlowin said in the article. “It changes the entire economic complexion of the industrial hemp industry.”

Perlowin has been a featured speaker at The N.E.W. Business of Agriculture, The Puerto Rico MedCann.Biz Convention, and countless others over the years. His vast experience in the industrial hemp industry will greatly benefit the influx of new market states.

Initially introduced by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), as the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, the bill included provisions to remove hemp from the federal list of controlled substances. Now, it will go to the president’s desk, where it is expected to be signed into law before the end of this year. With its expected passage into law, Hemp, Inc. shareholders can expect a substantial increase in revenues.

Hemp, Inc. also has entered into an agreement with 2 Manifest Studio, LLC, a Wyoming, Limited Liability Company (VED), to create a documentary and subsequent docuseries over the course of an estimated five years. Per the terms of the agreement, VED will create a feature-length film, docuseries, and other video materials about the history of hemp with a strong focus on Hemp, Inc. and other pioneers and companies that are leaders in the modern-day history of industrial hemp.

To see 1 minute videos of Hemp, Inc.’s current activities, go to Bruce Perlowin’s personal Facebook page where he posts daily on all the activity Hemp, Inc. is doing around the country. (No other public company has this level of transparency than Hemp, Inc.)

Hemp, Inc. has also been helping to build the industrial hemp infrastructure that was basically non-existent in America. It has six hemp infrastructures, Divisions One through Six:

Division One – The Industrial Hemp Infrastructure

Division Two – The Hemp Extraction Infrastructure

Division Three – The Hemp Farming Infrastructure

Division Four – The Hemp Educational Infrastructure (The Hemp University)

Division Five – The Hemp Marketing Infrastructure

Division Six – Hemp Accessories, Products and Services

    *ABOUT LOCAL PROCESSING CENTER INC.*

Hemp, Inc. entered into a majority ownership agreement with JNV Farms LLC for the hemp cultivation and processing company in Medford, Oregon.   As the majority owner of the, now fully functional, hemp cultivation and processing company, Local Processing Center, Inc. (LPC), Hemp, Inc. will be able to create a pipeline of industrial hemp and hemp products in states, where legal, on the West Coast. This makes Hemp, Inc. a bi-coastal hemp processing center in America with many more Hemp Local Processing Centers planned for other areas where Hemp is being grown.  Thus far, the company has created about 50 jobs in its LPC and also helps create even more jobs for the local farmer.  “A to Z” services for the farmers are available - from harvesting to drying, bagging, curing, storing, nitrogen sparging, machine trimming, hand trimming, extracting and selling creating a “one stop shop” for the small to large family farm. Daily updates on LPC can be found on Bruce Perlowin’s personal Facebook page.

    *DAILY UPDATES ON FACEBOOK*

Hemp, Inc. strives to be one of the most transparent companies in the public sector. To adhere to this company policy of transparency, CEO Bruce Perlowin posts 1-minute video updates daily on his personal Facebook page to give an inside look and behind-the-scenes footage of what Hemp, Inc. is doing on a daily basis. “We want them to know how the company is performing and what it is doing to reach its goals,” says Perlowin. To see 1 minute videos of everything Hemp, Inc.’s current activities, go to Bruce Perlowin’s personal Facebook page where he posts daily on all the activity Hemp, Inc. is doing around the country. (No other public company has this level of transparency than Hemp, Inc.)

    *THE UPCOMING DOCUSERIES*

Hemp, Inc. entered into an agreement with 2 Manifest Studio, LLC, a Wyoming, Limited Liability Company (VED), to create a documentary and subsequent docuseries over the course of an estimated five years.  Per the terms of the agreement, VED will create a feature length film and corresponding docuseries and other video materials about the history of hemp with a strong focus on Hemp, Inc. and other pioneers and companies that are leaders in the modern-day history of industrial hemp. The content will be wholly-owned by Hemp, Inc. 2 Manifest Studio Director Joseph Trivigno and his team have been tracking Hemp, Inc.’s progress, as executives meet with farmers throughout the country to document the company’s expansion into new markets.  The documentary is expected to be released by 2020. The docuseries is expected to follow the film’s release. The film crew will also capture hemp developments in markets around the globe.

    *VETERAN VILLAGE KINS COMMUNITIES*

The company’s 500-acre strategic growing partner Veteran Village Kins Community in Golden Valley, Arizona, is also designed to grow hemp and produce CBD products to benefit veterans as well as generate revenue for Hemp, Inc., the Veteran Village and individual veterans living in the community. Hemp, Inc. executives are also continuing to scout new locations nationwide to open additional hemp processing centers in legal markets.

For a more complete description on the Veteran Village Kins Community (as mentioned above), read the following October 24, 2017 press release, “Hemp, Inc. Announces Strategic Hemp Growing Partner ‘Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc.’ Completes Final Site Plan Blueprints”, below:

Hemp, Inc. has announced that its strategic growing partner, "Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc.", has completed its final site plan blueprints for its 500-acre site in Golden Valley, Arizona (20 miles north of Kingman, AZ and 90 minutes from Las Vegas, NV). The site plan was submitted to the Mohave County Building Department for final review. The Company is also in the final stages of completing the necessary infrastructure to support an off-grid, renewable, energy system. With the solar equipment in place, the site's solar power operation will be completed in the next days.

As soon as the live streaming video cameras are up and operational, the world can actually see the way the Veteran Village Kins Community is designed and watch it being built. According to Perlowin, the basic framework or overall plan of the Veteran Village Kins Communities is to create a holistic healing and learning center that is designed to educate and heal veterans with PSTD, alcoholism, meth addiction, opioid addiction, and other psychological conditions while at the same time training them on the numerous aspects of being part of the emerging multi-billion dollar hemp industry.

We will also be building hemp-growing communities for other groups such as "Abused" Women & Children Village Kins Communities, the "Orphaned" Children Village Kins Communities, "Homeless" Village Kins Communities and the "Healers" Village Kins Communities (the healers are professionals who are knowledgeable in the modalities to treat these traumatized groups).  These particular communities are all synergistically aligned to work simultaneously supporting each other.

For example, the "Healers" heal the traumatized veterans and women & children; the women support orphan children, and orphan children want to see people living in homes and not homeless. Thus, a portion of the hemp grown in each community goes to create and support another community, giving everybody a sense of giving back and helping others as they help themselves. This circles back to the healers who also work to heal the veterans and the other traumatized groups. This is the economic foundation on how the sale of the hemp products operates as a "quantum economic matrix" or an example of "symbiotic economics" which is more complex than this brief description allows.

Dwight Jory, the Project Manager for the "Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc.”, said, "We are very happy with the progress. Our Kins Community is really beginning to come together." In anticipation of planting to begin during the spring, 300 acres have been fenced, 16 overnight trailer park sites are under construction, and six 40x40-ft organic vegetable gardens have been planted and are currently producing food and kenaf, according to Jory. These organic gardens double as experimental growing modules using an entire array of different growing technologies to see which modalities grow the best in a desert environment. As for the 6 geodesic domes mentioned in an earlier press release, 1 is structurally complete with only the electrical and plumbing to be completed. The rest are on site awaiting final site plan approval.

"We are now accepting volunteers who have expressed an interest in helping to build the first Kins Community for our veterans," said Jory. Those interested in making the first hemp growing CBD-producing "Veteran Village Kins Community" become a reality should contact Ms. Sandra Williams via email (swilliams@hempinc.com).

One thousand trees, on 36 of the 500-acres, have also been planted, with an additional 1,000 trees on order. The "Veteran Village Kins Community" will include a 100,000-square foot GMP compliant, central processing plant, a state-of-the-art testing laboratory, and various health and wellness centers to support veterans who may have psychological, emotional or health issues.

"As Hemp, Inc. positions itself on the forefront of America's industrial hemp revolution, we see our partnership with 'Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc.' being paramount in supporting the small family farm movement that we are confident will reshape the American landscape," said Perlowin. "As we work toward getting our eco-village up and running in Arizona, we are also aggressively scouting strategic locations in other states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia. Giving veterans and other Americans a place to learn new skills and take part in this multi-billion-dollar hemp CBD market is very exciting. It's a big part of our mission to give back.  Recently we have expanded our Kins Community concept internationally focusing, but not limited to, Israel, New Zealand, Canada, Africa, and Uruguay."

According to Perlowin, we hope to have 50 "master hemp growers" working on their first Veteran Village Kins Community in Arizona. To date, we have growers from Oregon, Colorado, California, Kentucky, North Carolina, Nevada and, Arizona who have expressed an interest in pursuing a joint venture with Hemp, Inc. to each grow industrial hemp on 5 of the 300 fenced acres in Arizona. Perlowin says he'll call this "The Great United American Hemp Grow-Off."  Any grower having an interest in pursuing a joint venture on 5 of the 300 fenced in acres in Arizona should contact Project Manager Dwight Jory. Or, anyone interested in attending the 2-7-day hands-on hempcrete house building should contact Dwight Jory as well. (Dates to be determined.)

    *WHAT IS HEMP?*

Hemp is a durable natural fiber that is grown as a renewable source for raw materials that can be incorporated into thousands of products. It's one of the oldest domesticated crops known to man. Hemp is used in nutritional food products such as hemp seeds, hemp hearts and hemp proteins, for humans. It is also used in building materials, paper, textiles, cordage, organic body care and other nutraceuticals, just to name a few. It has thousands of other known uses. A hemp crop requires half the water alfalfa uses and can be grown without the heavy use of pesticides. Farmers worldwide grow hemp commercially for fiber, seed, and oil for use in a variety of industrial and consumer products. The United States is the only developed nation that fails to cultivate industrial hemp as an economic crop on a large scale, according to the Congressional Resource Service. However, with rapidly changing laws and more states gravitating towards industrial hemp and passing an industrial hemp bill, that could change. Currently, the majority of hemp sold in the United States is imported from China and Canada, the world's largest exporters of the industrial hemp crop.

Hemp is completely different from marijuana in its function, cultivation and application. In cultivating marijuana, the plants are spaced far apart, and the male plants are destroyed to assure that they cannot seed the female plants, which would result in undesirable, less potent and less marketable, seeded marijuana buds. Hemp, on the other hand, is planted close together and commonly hermaphrodites, which creates an abundance of seeds, the main component of Hemp foods and supplements. The Hemp stalks are processed and used for fiber, composite, and other hemp based end products.

Hemp is used in variety of other applications that marijuana couldn’t possibly be used in. These include healthy dietary supplements, skin products, clothing, and accessories. Overall, hemp is known to have over 25,000 possible applications. Hemp products such as Hemp Milk, Hemp Cereal, and Hemp Oil are used by consumers every day.

*9 GREAT REASONS TO INCLUDE HEMP AS PART OF A HEALTHY DIET* (Source)

Although hemp seeds come from the Cannabis sativa plant, they do not produce a mind-altering effect.  These small, brown seeds are rich in protein, fiber, and healthful fatty acids, including omega-3s and omega-6s. They have antioxidant effects and may reduce symptoms of numerous ailments, improving the health of the heart, skin, and joints. Read all the reasons to include hemp as part of a healthy diet here.

*HOW HEMP CAN CHANGE THE WORLD*

Fiber* – *Hemp fiber can be used to make fabrics and textiles, rope and paper. The word ‘canvas’ actually derives from the word cannabis.

Fuel - While the industrial, medicinal and commercial properties of hemp have been known to mankind for a very long time, its benefits to the environment have just been realized in recent years. One of the compelling things hemp offers is fuel. With reserves of petroleum being depleted, it would be nice if we could have a fuel source which was reusable and which we could grow right here, making us completely energy independent.

Food – Hemp seeds are very nutritious and were first thought to be eaten by the Ancient Chinese and Indians. Hemp seeds have a nutty taste and can be eaten raw, ground up, sprouted, or made into dried sprout powder. Hemp seeds also contain a very beneficial oil that is high in unsaturated fatty acids, including an optimal 1:4 ratio of omega-3 to 6.

Building Material - Hemp can be made into a variety of building materials. These include concrete-like blocks called ‘hempcrete’, biodegradable plastics, and wood replacements. These materials have been used in the manufacture of many things, including electronics, cars and houses. In fact, the first American home made of hemp-based materials was completed in August 2010 in Asheville, North Carolina.

Biofuel - Remarkably, the oil from hemp seeds and stalks can also be made into biofuels such as Biodiesel — sometimes known as ‘hempoline’. While this biofuel can be used to power engines, it does take quite a lot of raw material to produce a substantial amount.

Time’s Up Entertainment Unveils New Initiative to Promote Minorities in Hollywood Time’s Up Entertainment, an affiliate of the Time’s Up movement, announced on Friday that it’s using a $500,000 grant from CBS to launch a new initiative aiming to help people of color and those from underprivileged backgrounds jumpstart their careers in Hollywood.

The Who’s in the Room initiative will focus on creating a pipeline to production and executive jobs within the entertainment industry. Time’s Up Entertainment, in a statement shared with TheWrap, said it will place people from underrepresented groups in entry-level openings and assistant positions “primed to transition into junior executive positions.”

The program will start with a “pilot class” of 10 mentees that’ll run for nine months, followed by 50 mentees in each of the next two classes. The program is being led by a group of industry veterans, including Jenno Topping, president of film and television at Chernin, TV executive Tara Duncan, Tendo Nagenda vice president of Original Films at Netflix, and Niija Kuykendall, senior VP of film production at Warner Bros. Entertainment.

“The fact is that young people are dropping out of the industry because they are not being provided the support to succeed – this program provides them that targeted support,” Nithya Raman, executive director of Time’s Up Entertainment, said in a statement. “We thank CBS for funding this important program and feel extraordinarily grateful to have such a committed and talented group of industry leaders lending their time and talent to shape this program.”

CBS announced earlier on Friday it had selected 18 organizations, including Time’s Up Entertainment, to split a $20 million grant to workplace sexual harassment and diversity issues. The grant was part of the network’s separation agreement with former chief Leslie Moonves, who stepped down in September after six women accused him of sexual harassment or assault.

The grant recipients were also announced one day after The New York Times reported CBS had paid Eliza Dushku $9.5 million to settle a sexual harassment claim.

*Also Read:* CBS and a Pattern of Toxic Masculinity: Protecting the Predators, Not the Victims

Time’s Up Entertainment said its initiative will create a “new model” to foster “unprecedented engagement from industry mentors and accountability measures.” It will create “powerful peer networks and significant programmatic support” for participants while tapping into the “motivated network of women” involved with Time’s Up.

Who’s in the Room will also design a Hollywood curriculum for participants to study, giving them a breakdown on making deals and how to finance projects. Additionally, the program will have a financial aid model that can help candidates to address needs or access opportunities for advancement. The program will provide mentees access to a flexible fund of up to $10,000 per candidate. The money can be utilized for professional development opportunities (i.e. attending a film festival to scout new talent), basic subsidies (i.e. gas cards to offset the cost of daily commuting associated with their job), or emergency relief (i.e. security deposit, car repair).

“There is nothing short of an urgent need at the moment to have the people who buy, create and promote entertainment content be more representative of the people we serve,” Topping said in a statement. “WITR hopes to exponentially change and expand the landscape within five years by aggressively growing the next crop of producer and executive talent.”

Facebook quietly killed its Building 8 skunkworks unit as it reshuffles its cutting-edge experiments and hardware (FB)· *Facebook quietly killed off Building 8, its secretive skunkworks unit, after the launch of its Portal video-chat device.*
    · *Its hardware team now lives under a new Portal organization, and its more experimental projects have been moved to Facebook Reality Labs, Business Insider has learned.*
    · *Facebook Reality Labs is working on far-out tech like brain-computer interfaces and ways to "hear" through your skin.*
    · *Building 8 was launched back in 2016 as part of Facebook's attempts to break into consumer hardware.*

Facebook has killed off its Building 8 skunkworks lab following a significant reshuffle of its experimental projects and hardware units.

The super-secretive organization was inspired by DARPA, and billed itself as a unit dedicated to building "new, category-defining consumer hardware products." In its buzzy heyday, it worked on far-out projects like brain-scanning tech and skin sensors. It was a moonshot factory, in other words, in the same vein as Google's X.

But things have now changed. Some of its most experimental projects have been shunted over to a new division, the Facebook Reality Labs, and its hardware segment has been rebranded as Portal following the launch of Facebook's home video-chat device.

The Building 8 brand, meanwhile, has quietly been killed off completely, a spokesperson told Business Insider.

Building 8 was first announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg back in 2016. He billed it as a bold bet on hardware for Facebook, which has never managed to parlay its success in the software space into physical consumer goods like Apple and Google. It was led by Regina Dugan, a former DARPA director and Google exec, who then left Facebook after 18 months at the start of 2018.

"I’m excited to announce that we've started a new group at Facebook called Building 8 focused on building new hardware products to advance our mission of connecting the world," Zuckerberg wrote in a post when it launched.

"We'll be investing hundreds of people and hundreds of millions of dollars into this effort over the next few years. I'm excited to see breakthroughs on our 10 year roadmap in augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence, connectivity and other important areas."

In October 2018, those ambitions finally came to fruition with the launch of Portal — a touchscreen home video-chat device that lets users them call their friends and consume media using Facebook's software.

With the launch, Building 8's executives and hardware-focused teams transferred to a newly formed Portal team — and Building 8 was shuttered, a previously unreported development.

Rafa Carmago, who was made the head of Building 8 when Dugan left, was appointed VP of Portal when it officially launched. Head of product Ital Vonshak, director of marketing Nick Fell, and head of device software Viresh Rustagi also all made the shift.

    *Goodbye Building 8, Hello Portal*

Some employees do still advertise themselves on LinkedIn as working for Building 8, and there are still some open job advertisements for positions at Building 8 — but this is because they haven't been updated yet, a spokesperson said.

Other signs of the unit's newness abound. Building 8's official Careers page on Facebook's website has been killed — but Portal's jobs page uses all its old photos.

Any other, unannounced hardware projects being developed by Facebook now live under the Portal organization — excluding virtual or augmented reality efforts that would be part of Oculus, the company's AR/VR unit.

With Building 8's dissolution, its more experimental efforts have been spun out into another new group: Facebook Reality Labs (FRL).

FRL was formed in May 2018, prior to the launch of Portal, though at the time it was just viewed as a just rebranded Oculus Labs (Facebook's earlier AR/VR research efforts). It now holds tentpole Building 8 projects like the Brain Computer Interface team, which attempts to build computers that can meld with human minds. It's being led by Michael Abrash, a games industry veteran and legendary programmer.

The haptics team, which is working on tech to help people "hear" through their skin, has also been transferred, according to its members' LinkedIn profiles, and healthcare projects that were once part of Building 8 have also been moved out.

Some of Facebook's other experimental research, like its work on biologically-inspired "soft robotics," is also part of Facebook Reality Labs.

Facebook says it is still working on many of the same projects, albeit with a different structure. In an email, Facebook spokesperson Lisa Auslen said: "Building 8 was the early name of the team building consumer hardware at Facebook. Building 8 is part of Facebook's AR/VR organization. Now that we're shipping, it's the Portal team. And Rafa Camargo is still leading the team; that has not changed."

"We also unified research looking at longer terms projects under one team, which became Facebook Reality Labs, which is also part of our AR/VR organization. This includes research projects like the Brain Computer Interface." She said that the restructuring did not entail any layoffs.

Zuckerberg's vision may still be in place — but the reshuffle means it's taking place in a very different way.

How Adaptive Climbing Is Helping Veterans Fight PTSD Watch VideoFor the past five years, the number of veterans with service-connected disabilities has consistently increased. One way the VA is addressing the problem is with recreational activities.

"Getting help is not weak. Doesn't make you less of a man," says Justin King, a former infantryman participating in a recreational therapy program in Colorado. "If anything it makes you a better person. If there's anything that makes me a better father, it was coming to get help. "

In 2017, the VA awarded eight million dollars in grants for adaptive sports programs across all 50 states — sports like archery, skiing, cycling, and climbing. Much of that money went to nonprofits that partner with the VA to provide recreational therapies, like Adaptive Adventures, a Colorado based non profit. King and other veterans meet at a Denver gym, using the climbing wall as a tool for addressing post-traumatic stress. They work on the same ropes and the same gear, going the same heights as non-disabled climbers.

*SEE MORE: There Are 40,000 Job Openings At The Veterans Health Administration*

"What we do is we kind of ramp up slowly," explains Craig DeMartino, who leads the climbing clinics. "So we don't just like walk in and throw them into the middle of the gym. We kind of step them into it slowly. So we start in a small controlled area and then we get them acclimated to like, 'Hey this is how you climb. This is what the rope does. This is what I do.' Then we move them out into the bigger area."

DeMartino knows all about adapting himself. Doctors amputated his leg after he suffered a massive fall while climbing in 2002. In 2004, he became the first amputee to climb El Capitan in Yosemite.

"I fell about 100 feet almost exactly and landed standing in the rocks at the base of the climb. It destroyed my feet — compound fractures of both legs, severed an artery in my leg. Broke my back at L2 so badly that they fused my L one through four. I understand what it's like to be so scared that you're paralyzed," he says.

"It just took me like kind of convincing myself over and over. And I would swear [climbing] off almost every time I'd come down and be like nope I'm done. Yes. And then I'd go, oh I did like the way it felt."

DeMartino says climbing, like many adaptive sports, forces the athlete to sharply focus on what they are doing and nothing else. That focus, he argues, allows veterans to find a way to cope with stressors that can trigger PTSD.

*SEE MORE: VA Admits It Has A Problem Funding Veteran Benefits*

Magnovo Training Group recently partnered with the Blue Star Mothers of Northern Virginia to provide care packages to military members currently stationed overseas.

FAIRFAX, Va. (PRWEB) December 15, 2018

Magnovo Training Group recently partnered with the Blue Star Mothers of Northern Virginia to provide care packages to military members currently stationed overseas.

As a part of a Mission: Military Care charity teambuilding workshop and with the help of corporate donations, the Blue Star Mother of Northern Virginia were able to assemble several packages, including some that were sent to two special operations troops and to sailors on the USS Reagan.

As the holidays approach, charity teambuilding workshops coordinated by Magnovo Training Group become even more pertinent. “The goal is to create care packages for military service men and women who’re stationed far from home; and during the holiday season, this is even more important,” said Rob Jackson, Magnovo President.

The group used the opportunity to gather, bake cookies, wrap gifts and assemble the care packages together. Not only was it a night of fellowship, but also a night to give back.

The Northern Virginia Chapter of The Blue Star Mothers of Northern America, Inc. is a non-partisan, non-political, non-sectarian organization. It is comprised of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. Their mission is to support each other and their children while promoting patriotism.

Magnovo partners with businesses and organizations of all sizes to provide various teambuilding workshops to their associates. The charity team building events not only develop a stronger and more cohesive team, but each one has a philanthropic twist — giving back through local charities and community organizations. These workshops were created with the goal of inspiring significant, positive change within organizations and communities.
