Hire Heroes USA Founder Rejoins National Nonprofit’s Board

Announcement comes as organization targets another milestone for client hires

ATLANTA (PRWEB) August 16, 2018

Hire Heroes USA, the preeminent nonprofit organization providing employment services to transitioning military members, veterans and military spouses across the United States and around the world, today announced that its founder, John Bardis, has rejoined its board of directors.

“John is and always will be an important part of this organization. It is because of his vision and his sincere passion for our active duty military, veterans and their families that we exist in the first place,” said Hire Heroes USA CEO Christopher Plamp, a retired Air Force combat pilot. “The crucial work we do every day to assist these men and women into jobs in the civilian workforce is a testament to John’s foresight on the critical need for our services.”

Now in its 11th year, Hire Heroes USA continues to grow and evolve, just like the suite of services it provides. These include: online workshops and training modules, job matching, virtual career fairs and an exclusive job board, plus core services like resume, networking and interview assistance, as well as expert guidance on navigating federal employment opportunities.

In late May, the veteran service organization hit, and quickly passed, a milestone 25,000 lifetime hires. It expects to reach 30,000 before the end of the year.

“Results like these are a tribute to the extraordinary team at Hire Heroes USA. I look forward to working with CEO Christopher Plamp and CFO Nate Smith again,” said Bardis, adding, “Ultimately, it is all about the incredible value that our nation’s veterans bring to employers and the civilian workforce, and Hire Heroes USA continues to prove that it is making a real impact in the lives of those individuals.”

Hire Heroes USA’s long-term success can be traced back to a chance encounter Bardis had in 2005, when he met a post-9/11 Army sergeant, who was a patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The sergeant had been severely injured in a landmine explosion while on patrol in Afghanistan. He had undergone extensive physical therapy and multiple surgeries, including below-the-knee amputation. It was while sitting on that park bench that the veteran confided his genuine uncertainty about his future and his employability. That encounter and very personal conversation not only inspired Bardis to offer the sergeant a job on the spot, it eventually led to the creation of Hire Heroes USA.

Bardis has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. In 1999, he founded MedAssets, serving 15 years as chairman, president and chief executive officer, and as chairman and CEO until his retirement in 2015. More recently, he served in Washington D.C. as the Assistant Secretary for Administration at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

About Hire Heroes USA:
Headquartered in the Atlanta metro area, with additional branch offices around the country, Hire Heroes USA is the leading veteran service organization specifically targeting the issues of underemployment and unemployment among veterans. LAKELAND, Fla. (PRWEB) August 16, 2018

Draken International, a global leader in adversary air services, was ranked as the 18th fastest growing private company in the US on Inc. Magazine’s 2018 Inc. 5000 list. The company achieved astounding 3-year revenue growth of over 10,000% to earn a spot in the top 20 on this prestigious annual ranking. The company’s revenue growth made it the 2nd fastest growing private company in the Government Services category and the 4th fastest growing private company in Florida.

This is the second consecutive year that Draken was ranked in the top 100, appearing on the 2017 list at #90.

Draken CEO Jared Isaacman states, “We are honored to be acknowledged for our rapid growth over the past few years. We have always believed in the importance of supporting our military with credible, cost-effective air services, and our ability to deliver on this mission has afforded us this tremendous opportunity.”

Draken provides a range of contract air services to the Department of Defense and international allies, with services including airborne adversary support, close air support training, flight training, threat simulation, operational test and electronic warfare support, and other missions. With a strategy based upon “build it, and they will come”, Isaacman and his team of military veterans have dedicated the last seven years traveling the world in search of safe, credible, and capable aircraft to answer the growing global demand for commercial air services. As a result of these efforts, the company now boasts the largest privately-owned fleet of fighter aircraft in the world with over 120 fighter jets including Mirage F-1s, Douglas A-4s, Aero L-159s, and MiG-21s, among other aircraft. These jets have been used to support US Military operations in various capacities at Nellis Air Force Base (AFB), Luke AFB, Hill AFB, Holloman AFB, Edwards AFB, Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, MCAS Cherry Point, MCAS Miramar, and Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River. The company has also supported training missions worldwide for allied NATO partners, including operations in France and Leeuwarden Air Base in The Netherlands.

Isaacman is no stranger to the Inc. 5000 list. His first company, Shift4 Payments, has made six appearances on the list (under the company’s original name United Bank Card), including two consecutive years in the top 20 at #6 and #19.

Ferrari Energy made a donation that will help Freedom Service Dogs rescue and train even more lifelong helpers and companions for individuals with disabilities.

DENVER (PRWEB) August 16, 2018

Ratio Beerworks, a celebrated microbrewery and local hotspot in Denver’s trendy Downtown, recently provided the venue for an event held to benefit Freedom Service Dogs. The gathering of oil and gas industry professionals was hosted by Noel Wickwar and his affiliates at Morgan Stanley, and Ferrari Energy was there to support the cause.

Freedom Service Dogs changes the lives of homeless pets and individuals with disabilities forever by helping these vulnerable populations help each other. The Englewood-based not-for-profit has attracted nationwide attention and even a celebrity partner through the Rachel Ray Foundation for its work with rescue dogs and people living with disabilities. Freedom Service Dogs rescues homeless animals from shelters and custom trains them to help people in need. Over the past thirty years, freedom Service Dogs has helped improve the lives of innumerable children, veterans, active duty military, and others with disabilities, but it relies on charitable support to keep its doors open.

Members of the Ferrari Energy team were at the Ratio Beerworks event on August 2, enjoying the Oil and Gas social event and learning more about Freedom Service Dogs’ important work. To support the nonprofit organization, Ferrari Energy made a donation that will help Freedom Service Dogs rescue and train even more lifelong helpers and companions for individuals with disabilities. However, Freedom Service Dogs could always use more support. Every dog that Freedom Service Dogs rescues, feeds, trains, and houses costs the organization $25,000, and they receive no support from government grants. If you want to help Freedom Service Dogs, the dogs especially love Zukes and Tricky Trainers brand dog treats, and trainers are always needing more six-foot-long leashes. But there are several ways that you can join the Freedom Service Dogs community of supporters - to learn more about what you can do to help Freedom Service Dogs, visit https://freedomservicedogs.org/donate/.

Ferrari Energy works directly with landowners seeking to sell their subterranean mineral rights, ensuring that they understand the process and can take full advantage of the benefits. Ferrari Energy facilitates the acquisition and management of mineral rights throughout Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, Texas, Utah and Oklahoma. Prosecutor: ‘19,000 Fake War Veterans In Kosovo’

By Perparim Isufi

Kosovo’s state prosecutor Aleksander Lumezi alleged that there are around 19,000 fake Kosovo Liberation Army war veterans who are wrongfully taking benefits from government funds.

“According to the information I have, in the investigation stage, we have obtained evidence that proves that 19,000 war veterans have illegally taken benefits from the [government] Commission on War Veterans and Invalids,” Kosovo’s state prosecutor Aleksander Lumezi told Radio Free Europe on Thursday.

Lumezi made the claim the day after a Kosovo special prosecutor, Elez Blakaj, resigned after allegedly receiving threats while investigating a case concerning war veterans lists.

Lumezi said that “there is no official information that Blakaj was threatened by politicians”.

He added that Blakaj had prepared a draft indictment on the war veterans case.

“We do not have an official indictment yet. If a prosecutor files an indictment against several individuals, it should be handed over to the relevant court… in this case, we have only a draft which the prosecutor [Elez Blakaj] has prepared and handed over to the Special Prosecution for review,” he said.

In June 2016, the state prosecution announced it had started collecting information about potential errors in the verification process of former Kosovo Liberation Army guerrillas. Being registered as a KLA veteran provides access to benefits.

“This probe… is directed towards those individuals who have committed wrongdoings by giving false testimonies or by presenting fictitious and false documents in order to gain war veteran status,” the prosecution said at the time.

The announcement came after the Kosovo government published a report which declared that 46,230 individuals were part of the guerrilla force in the 1998-99 conflict with Serbian forces.

NGOs and war veterans’ organisations in Pristina criticised these findings, raising concerns that the figures could have been inflated for political advantage.

Many KLA members became politicians after the 1998-99 war, including current President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj.

Some of them hold important positions in the government, while others became members of parliament or work in other state institutions. Reported by Eurasia Review 11 hours ago.

Military parade ordered by Trump postponed: Pentagon

$
0
0
A military parade ordered by US President Donald Trump for later this year has been postponed until at least 2019, a defense official has said, following reports the cost had soared to over USD 90 million.

"The Department of Defense and White House have been planning a parade to honor America's military veterans and commemorate the centennial of World War I," Pentagon spokesman Colonel Rob Manning said in a statement.

"We originally targeted November 10, 2018 for this event but have now agreed to explore opportunities in 2019," he added.

When the White House in February announced the commander-in-chief's desire to hold a parade in Washington, the budget director said it would cost between USD 10 million and USD 30 million.

But a US official told AFP earlier yesterday the planning estimate had now gone as high as USD 92 million, though no final figure has been reached.

The parade had been planned for the Veterans Day weekend, and was expected to include a large show of air power.

The request for the event came after Trump was impressed by France's Bastille Day parade, where he was received with great fanfare by French President Emmanuel Macron in July 2017.

US media were quick to highlight how the ballooning costs stood in contrast to his concern about the expense of conducting joint military exercises with South Korea.

"We will be stopping the war games, which will save us a tremendous amount of money," Trump said in June after meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

It later emerged that the drills cost about USD 14 million, a fraction of the price of a military parade.

The United States normally holds military parades to mark the end of a conflict, such as in 1991 when president George HW Bush held a National Victory Parade in Washington to celebrate the end of the first Gulf War.

Trump's request was popular among many Americans but drew scorn from critics, who said it would be a waste of money and was akin to events organized by authoritarian regimes.

South Florida Teen Leads Non-Profit Charity to Help Local Homeless Veterans

Riley Smith is not your average 12-year-old. This young activist has a big heart and passion for helping others, which has led her to enhance the lives of veterans in South Florida through non-profit organization Project We Care.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (PRWEB) August 17, 2018

Riley Smith is not your average 12-year-old. This young activist has a big heart and passion for helping others, which has led her to enhance the lives of veterans in South Florida.

Project We Care is a family-based organization created to address the needs of homeless veterans. Riley Smith, a 7th grader at American Heritage School, has become sensitive to the deplorable conditions that our country’s veterans live with daily, having witnessed them on street corners begging and living in unideal conditions - motivating her to help those in need.

Riley has spearheaded the initiative by creating a system to address the needs of veterans participating in the Veterans Administration VASH (Veteran’s Administration Subsidized Housing). Project We Care contacts veterans to discuss their needs and assess the recommended inventory for “Care Packages” or Gift Cards based on the needs of each individual. Once a list is compiled, Riley arranges an assortment of common good to be delivered directly to the veteran.

With the goal of providing all the necessities for turning a bare apartment into a home, Riley channels her passion into making these packages - in hopes of creating a sanctuary devoid of the perils of homelessness, and a place where veterans can embark on the journey of healing both emotionally and physically.

Her overall goal is to inspire others to experience the selfless act of volunteering to help carry the weight of someone else’s sorrow. She realizes that problems, like Veteran’s poor living conditions, exist whether we like them or not and uses this reality as a motivator to help provide a better life for those in need.

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts,” a quote written by Eleanor Roosevelt, is one of Riley’s inspirations for giving homeless veterans a fresh start with the help from Project We Care.

For more information on how to get involved in Riley’s initiative to help the local homeless veteran community, to learn more about the Project We Care mission, or to access other veterans resources, visit ProjectWeCare.org or call 888-237-6135. Reported by PRWeb 9 hours ago.

A gathering of addiction experts, former athletes, and clinical leaders from all major professional sports programs—to collaborate on cutting-edge solutions for retired and current athletes suffering from substance use disorder (SUD) and any co-occurring disorders.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) August 17, 2018

Transformations Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center will hold the first-ever National Sports Summit, August 20-21 at the Hyatt Place in Delray Beach, FL.—gathering addiction experts, former athletes, and clinical leaders from all major professional sports programs—to collaborate on cutting-edge solutions for retired and current athletes suffering from substance use disorder (SUD) and any co-occurring disorders.

“Working together, we can begin to collect techniques, data, and research on the most effective therapies, medications, and aftercare as they pertain to current and former professional athletes of any sport,” states Randy Grimes, former 10-year Tampa Bay Buccaneer and national director of business development and strategy for Transformations Treatment Center, who spent 20 years battling addiction to pain medication.

Organizations in attendance will be the Baseball Assistance Team (MLB), Player Care Foundation (NFL), Gridiron Greats (NFL organization led by Mike Ditka), After the Impact Fund (all sports and military veterans), and Gay Culverhouse Player Services (multiple sports). The sports represented at the Summit will include football, baseball, hockey, combat sports, tennis, extreme sports, rugby, and horse racing.

“We are gathering some of the best minds in the country who have been working with professional athletes to develop the nation’s premier treatment programming for them,” states Tim McDowell, Baseball Assistance Team (BAT). “It will be the first of its kind.”

The Summit will feature sessions to highlight each organization’s current programs—followed by Transformations’ clinical staff presentations on addiction solutions offered in a holistic, highly-individualized setting. “[The Summit represents] a coalition of talented service providers working to build upon and progress awareness/education, access, and treatment of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders among professional athletes,” states Nate Recknagel, clinical manager for the NFL Player Care Foundation.
