Chicago Sky Honors Colonel Jennifer Pritzker During the Military Moment of the Game

Chicago Sky honored Colonel (IL) Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired), during the Military Moment of the Game on Sunday, August 19. In partnership with Robert Morris University, the Chicago Sky Military Moment of the Game recognizes local service members and veterans for their dedication to our country.

“On behalf of the entire WNBA Chicago Sky family, we would like to express what a tremendous honor it was to recognize Col. Pritzker during our Military Moment of the game,” says Jeanne Polydoris, military and veterans outreach chair for the Chicago Sky. “We honor Col. Pritzker for her service to our country and for the unbelievable support she provides to those who wear the uniform, both past and present, and their families who serve along with them. She’s a true patriot.”

Pritzker was enlisted in the U.S. Army as a private in 1974, where she served with the 82nd Airborne Division. She continued to serve active duty until 1985, where she rose to the rank of captain, serving with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY and VII Corps in the Federal Republic of Germany. She then served in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Illinois Army National Guard until her retirement in March 2001. She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and received an honorary promotion to full Colonel in the Illinois Army National Guard. She has been honored with more than 20 military awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Pritzker is founder and chair of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library (PMML). The Museum & Library is open to the public and features an extensive collection of books, programs, artifacts, and rotating exhibits covering many eras and branches of the military. Programs include a lending library, archives, recorded TV shows, podcasts and oral histories, and museum exhibits.

Also, Pritzker is the founder and president of the Pritzker Military Foundation. Since its inception in 2017, the foundation has given more than $4.2 million to organizations that preserve military history and provide essential resources to active military, veterans and families of service members. The foundation has pledged another $7 million in commitments through 2021.

University of Virginia Selects Noodle Partners to Launch Online Master of Science in Data Science

Program will meet skyrocketing demand for well-trained data scientists from one of the nation’s leading universities

Students in both programs will take courses such as Machine Learning, Data Mining, Statistical Computing for Data Science, and Data Science Ethics, and all complete a capstone project.

Live Report: Lowlands Festival 2018 Icons, trailblazers, and charming locals make for a big festival that feels intimate...

In these heady days of budget air travel music fans are positively spoilt when it comes to festival selection. For a few extra quid one can swap the mud, piss filled cups and salmonella burgers for a chance to see how our friends over the channel like to do things - and for a line up just as stonking as our own.

Once again proving their mettle this year is the Netherland's *Lowlands Festival*, a three-day celebration of the old and the new. Founded in 1993, the 60,000 capacity site has proven a reliable mecca for locals, the site just one hour away from Amsterdam in the village of Biddinghuizen within the Flevoland countryside.

With a focus on alternative music and a tangible sense of colorful charm noticeable throughout, Lowlands shares some DNA with our own Bestival, just more organized and with better mayonnaise. Despite last year being their 25th anniversary bash, 2018 sees the programme reach new heights, attracting even larger international crowds to the party.

No day tickets on offer, Thursday sees two-thirds of the site open and 20,000 sets of headphones handed out for the biggest silent disco we've ever witnessed. In what can be best described as a Lynchian scene, hordes took to dancing on top of benches and ping-pong tables as they badly sang along to everything from Toto's 'Africa' to The Strokes. Humanity is a beautiful thing.

First night of wheat beer appreciation out the way, we wandered down to the main Alpha stage to see hip-hop legends get the festival off to a suitably upbeat start. Now 30 years into their career the band have been nothing if consistent. Grammy wins, cross-over collaborations and fan-funded releases all helping the bands socially conscious and often surreal numbers make an impact. For an area as large as the football stadium-sized Alpha it's impressive to see the veterans bring a house jam vibe, but they do. It won't be the last time we see them today.

A little later *Protomartyr *managed to draw a respectable crowd despite the hour and sunny climate, their snarling noise proving a winner with post-punk lovers and a repetition to others. Americanized The Fall isn't for everyone it seems.

Over on the Bravo stage, *Nils Frahm *grabbed a multi-generational audience, all excitedly awaiting some of his ethereal noise. With the stage decked out like a mad scientist's lab, fans looked on transfixed to see what unworldly noise he'd next produce at the flick of a switch. After enjoying frankly the best festival food to ever grace our mouths, it was time for *The War on Drugs*, Adam Granduciel and co. opening with the irresistibly anthemic 'Nothing To Find'. On good form and recounting the groups’ early shows in Amsterdam the band proved a great choice for the last hours of light.

After a brief break to suitably rehydrate the biggest crowd of the weekend gathered to see what Damon Albarn and his many cohorts would deliver for their headlining slot. *Gorillaz*, for the most part, did not disappoint, a 22 song set showcasing just how the once quirky side-project from that ‘bloke from Blur’ had become a multi-generational hit-maker. While the emphasis of the 'virtual reality band' aspect of the group has diminished over time, the collaborative nature has not. Bootie Brown, Peven Everett, and De La Soul (twice) all helped the band's last show of the summer soar while *Little Simz* turned the crowd into a proper garage rave for three glorious minutes.

Saturday gets off to a cloudy start but that doesn't stop *Gogol Bordello* from bringing the usual fire to their live show, nor the locals participating in an ice bath challenge for the kicks. Hiding in the back of a moving brass band van we later head to see Bonobo deliver yet another solid set, Simon Green's considerable talents always making a live outing well worth your time.

Back at Bravo *Stormzy *proves a hit, his undeniable charisma, and urgency striking a chord with the majority of those present. A band of a certain age doing the hits has no right to sound so vital. It's a set the Netherlands will be remembering for a long time.

Come Sunday and it's down to the likes of Seattle's *Thunder Pussy* to help shake any foggy heads back into shape. If good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll proved too much *Protoje *and the Indiggnation's soothing reggae and smoke filled space helped ease you into the day with panache.

Later a 71 years young *Patti Smith* proved she still has plenty of passion and poetry to convey to the world, herself and son Jackson delivering a blistering version of 'Gloria' and a sing-a-long 'Because the Night'. Long may she reign.

A front barrier view secured, *Ezra Furman* blows Clash away on the smaller Lima tent. In the space of an hour he and his band The Visions bring vulnerability, rage, and some wry humor to a set that steals the festival. A cover of the Smashing Pumpkins' 'Tonight, Tonight' and furious closing 'Suck the Blood from my Wound' hits those present like a slap. Here's hoping for a return visit and a bigger stage.

New queen of pop *Dua Lipa* spends the last show of her 22nd year proving why she's a force to be reckoned with. Opening with 'Blow Your Mind' her breezy 12 track set is filled with plenty of banter, sass and some absolute bangers including 'One Kiss' and of course, 'IDGAF'. Afterwards, there's just enough time to grab some much-needed grub and a quick sit down before the majority of Lowlands storms towards Alpha for some Kung Fu Kenny.

As headliners go, you couldn't ask for bigger than *Kendrick Lamar* currently. He's a Pulitzer winning genius and quite rightly heralded as the greatest living rapper. Live his visuals wow, his mock martial arts shorts get a laugh and the faithful dead center know every word. He's on great form, feeling the love from those present and supported by a tight live band. Unlike Kanye however, Kendrick doesn't have the crowd pleasers for an extended festival show, the likes of 'HUMBLE' 'LOVE' and 'King Kunta' doing the heavy lifting for the numbers between. Still, it's a small gripe when seeing such an artist at the peak of his powers.

Packing up to leave it hits you that more so than the music, it's the people and atmosphere that stays with you after a trip to Lowlands. Despite its size and huge acts, there's a relaxed vibe and kindness which is just simply very Dutch. Hangover or not the people are smiling, polite and happy to help. Everyone is out for a good time followed by some good conversation. There's a controlled and happy hedonism built on the back of decades of liberal social policy and high life quality. As you leave its gates you wish you could bring a little home.
